COD Ghosts Xbox One offline (2 weeks before launch) not possible without Live?

He posted some stuff like this earlier. This was POST ban.

So this is either leaning towards the 24 hour thing, or he has another copy of ghosts on the 360 and was talking about that, but it doesn't seem like it with the way it's worded here.

He also posted that this.

If there is some sort of glitched software that caused this to happen, and nobody actually caused it to, MS has a little under 2 weeks to fix it. The whole thing (if true) could be a blessing in disguise.

You feel for a corporation. Think about that.

Eh, not as much for Microsoft but more for people like Larry. They're usually the ones out in the frontlines and I'm sure all this shit must get to them. I mean, it's been deserved for the most part but man they can't catch a break at all.

I still find it to be absolutely hilarious that no one really knows how the Xbox One is going to work. Microsoft has done an atrocious job of explaining things in a black and white manner about basic system functionality, like playing a damn video game.

This shit is maddening to me and I'm not even getting an Xbox One. I could only imagine how you early adopters feel. You have my sympathy.

Wait, how are we supposed to feel? I'm excited to get the console on November 22nd and expect to have a lot of fun playing exclusives and messing around with the tech. Why should I be alarmed about crap two weeks before launch?

and this.

So he...might have assumed it did without checking? This is a mess to follow, lol.

wait what

so this whole thing was just a poorly misspelled, worded mistake? Isn't what this whole thread was about that he couldn't play single player without being online?

Just noticed the date, nevermind.

What are the possible outcomes?

MS states the DRM is still active but will be removed with the day 1 patch.

MS states that they banned his console and that even includes all singleplayer content and even accessing 'settings' (lol)

MS states developers can set their own DRM and maybe Activision did it with Ghosts.

MS states DRM IS BACK BABY!
this won't happen obviously

Either way MS PR takes another hit :/

On the father and son Youtube video where there XBox One gets banned as soon as they connect to live, they get pushed back out to the main menu, then have to go back into settings > network to choose their connection and re-enter their password (I was actually surprised it didn't remember it).

If those 150 consoles out there get hit with the 24 hour DRM thing (assuming that's what this is) and they can't go back into the settings, they're screwed.
Oh them! Thought we were talking about the guy on twitter. If i remember correctly, you can't do ANYTHING without updating first, even the initial setup. So they probably have the same update twitter guy has and got banned in the same manner so it might still work out that way. Didn't pay much attention to the father/son videos though so i'm probably wrong.

I think you need to look at the order of events. He posted that Immediately after he was banned, and then a day later he posted he can't play games offline because he was banned.

Good lord. The guy is all over the place.

Probably part of the "deal" he struck with Hryb when they contacted eachother. With a nice "free trip to the launch event" tacked on.

Miscommunication like this hurts big time.

What if you are banned and the console requires a logon to become unbanned after the suspension is lifted?

So a guy who is banned wonders why he can't access the online portion of the game?

Do we really have a 16 page thread over that head scratcher?

I can't believe this madness is based off one dude who can't keep his story straight and a cryptic CBOAT post.

I just realized there's a pretty easy way for him to solve whether it's a "Call of Duty" only problem or other games... buy a different Xbox one single player game and try it out for 24 hours and see if it still works the next day.

Rolling with this, then he never would have made the comment about this locking him out in the first place.

I don't think any other retail games are out yet.

Or console bans go all the way now and lock the entire system down. But I am seriously doubting that one. Again, this has to be an issue related to the damn thing not even being released yet. Perhaps not even fully updated. Stop licking your chops, peeps.

Best case is if it will all be taken care of with the Day One patch. I hope that is the case for all the X1 buyers.

This is what he said earlier btw, seems pretty clear to me but then again this guy seems ALL over the place.

Just a quick update, with my temporary console ban in place, I CANNOT play Ghosts offline. It requires online, and the ban prevents Live.

Cut and dry no? I thought maybe Larry told him not to play offline until the ban is up, but it seems like he is locked out from offline.

edit: Nevermind. Who posted a tweet from two days ago? jeez guys cmon.

The Cboat post and waiting for Albert Penello's whispered post is what's got this blowing up.

I love Cboat, but a one word reply is not exactly convincing.

Literally why this thread was posted. are you that dense

Yes, I am that stupid. Next time say what you mean, zero reason to try and use a less offensive term.

Dropping a nine page thread and running around like Microsoft is going to essentially brick consoles is exceedingly melodramatic.

More than likely this is all due to a pre-release console in the wild, come down off the cliff.

Just rewatched that music video, and noticed that the animation somehow reminded me a bit of Batman: TAS. Sure enough, looking it up it turns out they share a director. Funny that.

Whee OT~

That's cool, Batman came to my mind when I saw that GIF as well, thought it was from an episode I hadn't seen.

Yeah, that would work if the 24 hour check is done by game.If it's the whole system, the game probably won't work at all.

It's weird because he completely contradicts himself from earlier. And the devil is in the details here...pretty annoying.

Yes, *probably*, but is it too much to ask for clarification on this issue before someone drops 500 beans?
Nope. Totally reasonable.
We are trying their patience? The customers who will theoretically be paying their salaries?
Nah, but the story just broke and people are in a feeding frenzy. Understandable given MS' bad choices in the past.
You make a good point.

A standing target is much easier to hit with a rock.
lol
Nature abhors a vacuum. Think we can agree Microsoft hasn't exactly been putting their best messaging forward, and has been circling the wagons when getting called on messaging that doesn't pass the BS sniff test (high bar here).

Their best, organic PR was someone getting a XB1 early and just showing people it. And they shut it down! Why!? And now how they shut him down is becoming the story, if it's what it sounds like.

We could all be oohing and aweing over snapping, apps, and COD running at 60FPS right now if they realized the positive PR potential of just letting some Joe show off his new toy gleefully.

That boggles my mind.
Yeah. I get why they did it - uncontrolled media, but banning him was obviously a complete disaster waiting to happen.

If you want to do this, do this:

But don't blame anyone but yourself if you end up with this:

Nah you didnt read my post. Not getting the Xbox One. Quite obvious MS doesn't get it. If you try to screw me over with crazy DRM you're pretty much dead to me.
