COD Ghost XB1/PS4 comparions rolling in (list of all updated sites)

http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/a-few-last-minute-bits-of-playstation-4-info/1100-4785/

The early reviews of Call of Duty: Ghosts--including mine--mentioned that the PlayStation 4 version of the game suffers from occasional frame rate issues. For me, it usually showed up whenever there were a lot of particle effects on screen, but it'd pop up at random, too. I'm told that Infinity Ward is working on a patch to correct the performance issues. As our review currently doesn't apply to the PS4 version of the game--I want to play that and the Xbox One version on real multiplayer servers before assigning it a number--I'm going to see if that patch makes its way live this week and see if it helps. Currently, I'd call it a toss up between the Xbox One and PS4 versions--the Xbox One version has a smoother frame rate, but I'd rather play the game on a Dual Shock 4. Getting that frame rate pegged would definitively swing things in the PS4's direction, even over the PC version, which is sort of a mess. Of course, we're talking about minor differences in a game that has much more significant issues than mere frame rate, so you probably shouldn't take any of this as a ringing endorsement of the release without reading my review first.

Guys, of course it's going to run better at 720p than 1080p, even where slightly more powerful hardware is concerned.
This is also true. 1080p is 2.25 times the amount of pixels of 720p, and tha hardware is "only" 40% to 90% more powerful, depending on which metric you look at.

720p vs. 900p as in BF4 always seemed much more fitting.

This is Gameinformer review http://www.gameinformer.com/games/c...1/12/call-of-duty-ghosts-review-xbox-one.aspx
There has been much discussion online in recent weeks about resolution issues affecting PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One titles. It's been confirmed that the PlayStation 4 version runs at a native 1080p, but the Xbox One version is upscaled to 1080p from 720p. I played Call of Duty: Ghosts extensively on both next-gen systems on several televisions of different sizes, and saw no differences between the two versions. The experience was virtually identical on both consoles throughout the duration of my play time. If you own both consoles and are deciding which version of Ghosts to get, I'd recommend simply going with whatever console your friends will be playing on.

The result : no visual difference, no mention of framerate issues.

So everyone can see the difference except polygon...shocking...

Polygon are not alone in this, Gameinformer said the same thing.

Either the game is not rendering at 1080p on PS4 and 720p on XB1 or all these game journalists should go to an optometrist.

This person needs to see a doctor.

Anyway, people say even the PC version looks like shit, but this screenshot really impressed me:

"screenshot" as in: downsampled for our viewing pleasure or are people playing it like this?

Looks great either way.

Yep, I have a feeling there's something weird about the PS4's output of this game, especially if those are real comparison shots and they didn't screw it up

Some bits look better on XB1 while other bits look better on PS4.

Still looks bad though in terms of the aliasing and other details on both systems.

Playing like that. Here is my shot, maxed in game settings, 4xMSAA -

Why is it so hard to believe that maybe there isn't much a difference? Its possible that there truly is just not that much of a difference. If they never said it was 720p from the start I have a feeling many wouldn't of noticed.

I think because people know that its 720p that its getting blown up like everyone on earth should notice a huge difference. I know many people that would never ever be able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. I know many people my parents age that couldn't even really tell or care for the difference between SD and HD channels. Its just not that noticeable to some people.

So does this mean all multi-platform games Polygon review where the PC version runs 60fps vs 30fps on consoles will be rated 2-3 point higher now? I mean if a few dips get you .5 worse of a score what does 30fps more give you?

No, If PS4 version is 1080p and Xbox One version is 720p.

So Polygon is failing to mention the frame rate issues may be fixed by launch...

IGN fails to mention to the frame rate issues...

Giant Bomb tells the truth.

Well, almost ;P. The other image looks cleaner (the downsampled one). Look at the wooden poles, gun and the flowers. aparent jaggies (small, yes.. impressive, yes).
But i think it will look that clean while in motion. Impressive.

and that's without AA....OMFG......such a shitty engine, what the hell did infinity ward do to the damn engine.....
I suspect this is what happens when you try to add fancy features to an age old engine.

I would prefer if they built an engine, from the ground up, for the PS4/XBO.

what I've learned from this comparisons is that the PC/Next-gen versions look MUCH better than current-gen, especially lightning and shaders.

What's with the oddly fitting tint? Seriously!

(Never mind the clock, forgot to hide it before capturing)

As a hobbyist photographer...the tint on both of those screens is absolutely disgusting which makes any other argument about graphics pointless, cant see jack in either image

Guys, we know the rendering resolution of both versions. A reviewer saying they can't see the difference doesn't mean there is no difference. It just means they are either lying, or have really poor vision. Either way, any reviewer who says they can't perceive any difference in visual fidelity between the two versions is probably really bad at their job.

My PC is hooked up to my main TV. The difference between 720p and 1080p is massive on a big tv.

I was playing Arkham Origins last night and flicking between the resolutions just to see.

Sorry but it is, I'm beginning to think these games are getting reviewed on small monitors or something.

There's something up with those shots.

Either we've been lied to and the PS4 version is also 720p or that capture is bogus (perhaps the PS4 was set to 720p as well?). That is absolutely not representative of 1080p.

Whether that is a fault of the person who captured those images or the fault of the game itself remains to be seen.

Yea the jagged edges are the same size on both version. So either both are captured at 720P or they lied about PS4's resolution.

That's because you are actually outputting a 720p image to your TV and not a 1080p signal like the XBO does (even if not native, it probably has a better scalar than your TV).

yeah this is 720p no AA something is fishy here

Funny to read that most have experienced frame rate drops on PS4 but the one's that are known to be PS fanboy sites don't say anything.

Ok I've just downloaded the IGN comparison video and they've either fucked up or the PS4 version is not running at 1080p in the recording.

No way the PS4 version looks like it's 1920x1080 in any of the clips.

I think IGN has recorded both consoles at 720p then just placed it into a 1080p project for export in their video editing suite. Nothing from the PS4 clips result in a 1080p picture.

And they've screwed up with the XB1 recordings in some scenes. In certain areas their hardware hasn't picked up the Reds correct which has resulted in a pinkish tone instead of the correct one.

You can see this here in the pictures below. I honestly don't expect the game to be like this.

Now I know people are going to say oh you can't tell from a MP4 video at 8mbps but yeah you should be able to see slight differences.

.

Both TSA and IGN messing up in the same way? It's starting to strain credibility. Maybe the PS4 version just really does look that bad.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Either they were capturing video at 720p in PS4's case, or they converted to 720p when matching two videos together, or the developer lied and PS4 version is not 1080p. Because those screens and videos I've seen of PS4 version are not 1080p. Neither the IGN or the TheSixthAxis.

Textures look way better on Xbone judging by those comparison shots.
No, they are identical.

People who claim they can tell an immediate difference between the versions on either of the two comparison videos are lying through their teeth, lol

The game looks crappy on both platforms.

Never before in the history of gaming has so much ink been spilt for so mediocre a title.

This is giving CoD: Ghost Dawg far more attention than it warrants.

To me, in IGN's comparison vid neither version actually looks 1080p....are we sure the PS4 version really is 1080p? Because it looks 720p to me...unless compression or video capture settings were borked or something.

Main improvements in IGN's video comparison aren't even resolution related. They're lighting/gamma/colour related. PS4 looks better on these fronts. I'm assuming that on screen, minus flawed capture and compression, the PS4's resolution advantage will show dividends. Hope DF's comparison sheds light, because so far this has all been very confusing.

Agreed. I bet if they put those shots up without the x1 and ps4 headings no one would be able to tell which is which.

Just curious actually for my own knowledge but what makes it look 720p? I watched it on my tv through YouTube and they both looked identical. Just curious what stands out in the video and makes u say "that's 720 for sure" other then u know the x1 is 720p.
