Game Informer Reviews Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - 10/10

Damn son, 10/10?

So they really did shake up the formula a bit for this game then. Can't wait to play it. Loved LttP. I hope they continue shaking things up for the WiiU Zelda. Would love to have a more open approach for the next big game.

I'm going to be rejoining the ranks of 3DS owners this November 22nd with the Zelda Limited edition 3DS XL! Had to sell my original 3DS because I was cash strapped (college). My only regret is that I miss out on that epic case for the game!

Long rant as to why. Short version: You're held to your own mistakes and time wasting. if you could just save and load anywhere at any time there'd be no sense of urgency as you could just save at key points and not worry about fucking up.

More like a sense of frustration. Me and my friend were doing a play through of the game and we lost all our progress on an entire dungeon (even though we already beat it) because apparently we didn't do a "permanent" save, just a temporary.

Lorule was just like Hyrule. So very beautiful. So very...promising. We have need of a hero—and your Link is superb.

Didn't a lot of reviewers claim that Skyward Sword was better than Ocarina of Time? I'm taking this review with a grain of salt. Actually, none of the reviews will probably mean anything about its quality. This is zelda after all. We'll see how good this game fares when the dust settles a few months from now and people can look at it in a level headed way.
Skyward Sword has bursts of the best moments in Zelda history, but Ocarina is the better made game. They excel in different ways.

Majora's Mask was short, but it also had a brilliantly-realized world.

LttP is probably the hardest version, but it had crappy graphics for its time.

Great news! But I'll "wait" for the more trusty reviews for me (GamesTM, Edge, Eurogamer & Gamekult). It's day 0 in any case, there's no such thing as a bad Nintendo-developed Zelda game.

And to think Bravery Default is next. I haven't played 3DS in months but this is about to change. Now I need to take back my XL from my daughter, or get her a 2DS for her Animal Crossing daily fix :-/

I enjoy the Zelda discussion and criticism, but it should always be remembered that they are all fantastic games, and many of them are god-tier classics.

Can't say at all about this specific game and I hate 3d in general bit I would recommend a 2ds to people price conscious. I play my 3ds xl with 3d off. Sounds like another game to go in my Nintendo fridge. Will need another freezer; the Nintendo backlog is enormous from this year alone

I'm on media black out for this, but it's good to hear that impressions are positive. :)

There are people in this thread who claim the DS Zeldas are better than Link's Awakening, I certainly hope so.

Link's Awakening is a great game but it is overrated. There are a TON of annoyances in that game that would cause GAF to explode if they existed today (you can't move that rock!, etc.). And this wasn't a sign of the times...these annoyances didn't exist in LTTP.

And phantom hourglass and spirit tracks are not awful games, in fact, I think spirit tracks is really great.

That being said, Link's Awakening is the best out of the 3.

This really makes me want to get a 3DS again. Got the launch one, had it for a while, but the screen was too small.

Times like these, I wish I had a 3DS.

go to walmart (<<<< i think) and pick up 2ds to put it on layaway for $149. Then go back on black friday pick it up on for $99 when the price is reduced. Viola!

so, that way you don't have to fight all those people gettin' in your way and grabbing everything in sight.

My frothing demand increases 10 folds. I can't wait!

If you want to have a incredibly detailed conversation about Zelda design, ping me anytime.

Side note: I noticed a lot of opposition to my original claim in this thread. So here's the challenge, if you can describe the overarching design philosophies exhibited through the execution/design of Links Awakening vs Phantom Hourglass vs Spirit Tracks, then I'll give you a Zelda cookie.

If not, we'll all just continue to have a good laugh.

Regarding the other thing, Wind Waker is one of my favorite Zeldas. I love everything about it when I replayed it in HD, but my opinion has changed a little bit after replaying Twilight Princess. I'm saving my thoughts for another time, but I'm on the sixth temple, and I can't begin to fathom how this game deserves even an ounce of hate. I just don't get it. TP is probably the best game in the series given any criteria.
TP has always been the best entry in the series. I make it a point to ignore most people's opinions when making up my mind about games, because they're just so frequently absurd.

My only explanation is that people played it on Wii instead of Gamecube like they should have.

I would die if we got TP HD or Mario Sunshine HD on Wii U. Both fantastic games, but they get absurd amounts of criticism in some gaming circles.

I think I have bad taste in graphics, because nothing about these graphics has ever bothered me. Then again, if I'm not mistaken, more than a few people have said "ALttP is a great game except for the art design" (sorry no evidence, maybe someone with this opinion can confirm), and I had no problem with ALttP graphics either.

What exactly is wrong with the graphics in this game? Looks kind of like how I'd imagine 2D Link of old would look in 3D had I never seen a manual with drawings of Link.

Starting with three of the worst dungeons in the series plus only having two good ones later on (arbiter and yetis house) probably has something to do with it :p

Oh no, sir. Wii all the way. Pointer controls!!

Ok this is a legit question (i'm not thread whining):
should we make a separate thread every time a site gives a game a 10/10?

You missed Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Luigi's Mansion. Animal Crossing, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Mario & Luigi, and Pokemon X/Y? Get thee to a nunnery!

I couldn't get into the Fire Emblem games (I hate strat RPGs), I hated the Monster Hunter demo on Wii U, I don't have the time for Animal Crossing, I'm not really interested in SMTIV, I hated all previous Mario and Luigi games, and I don't really care for Pokemon. Luigi's Mansion is fairly interesting, but not enough to warrant a purchase right now. I'll probably pick it up eventually when it gets cheaper and I have the time/money.
