Kotaku also says do not buy it. I'm sure as more reviews come up it will show the game is an average shooter. Nothing more then a graphics whore that people will buy to show off the PS4.

5 is an absolutely insane score dripping in agenda.

6 was already a fairly absurd score for Mercenaries earlier this year, but well what can you do.

Good thing I never base my purchases on negative reviews.
Only when a game that I had no interest in before scores exceptionally well I tend to change my mind and give it a try. Not when I think I'll like the game and it's getting panned by certain sites. If it's universal, then that's another story I guess.

Nine years ago, the first Killzone game offered us an unforgettable, iconic image: a gas-masked space Nazi, eyes glowing a malevolent ochre, standing under a cherry blossom tree. A strong start - and yet since then, the series has been groping for an identity that could live up to that look and set it apart from its FPS peers. It's never quite found it.

It's all the more frustrating that Shadow Fall fails to establish that identity, because it gets so close in its early design and themes. It sets up an open-ended tactical shooter in a cynical world of sci-fi realpolitik - and then bottles it, taking the easy escape route of another suicide mission into empty spectacle. There's a lack of confidence here that contrasts starkly with Guerrilla's dazzling, sure-footed command of the new hardware. It's a game that any new PlayStation 4 owner will be proud to show off - but it won't be one they remember by the time PS5 rolls around.

*Sigh* Exactly what I was afraid of - the writing fails to live up to the technical side yet again.

Maybe it'll be better once I play it for myself; but seems many reviewers feel the same way.

Oh, well... I'll be enjoying this Killzone as eye candy... like all the others.

Based on the Kotaku review, they were given 3 hours of MP at a review event, which means they all know it exists but could not possibly evaluate it in any meaningful way.

Am I the only one that enjoys the setting of Killzone, that enjoys what Guerilla are trying to do with the cold war themes? Sure they may not always hit the spot, but it's a damn sight more interesting to me than yet another conflict with the US military in a random desert country.

criticising the story seems odd when you have the hokum of stuff like CoD.

Maybe its just that I like single player FPS games and don't play much MP

Hearing that the more open level design quickly regresses is probably the biggest disappointment for me. I've always felt Killzone, as a series, really isn't all that great (I don't think Killzone 2 is a good shooter at all, but Mercenaries does some great stuff), but the wider play space and open level structure had me more excited than I would be for a Killzone game.

disappointing, but hopefully that is launch game syndrome. I hope they get the chance to do a sequel with more time

Sorry, but calling Polygon a joke because "muh exclusive game review score is low" is just laughable. To accuse Polygon of a bias when you obviously have some bias in expecting 7-9 review scores as standard for a big budget, well-marketed, game that you're anticipating is to some extent hypocritical.

As someone who dislikes 75% of the killzone games, polygon is a joke and it has nothing to do with this score. I haven't played shadow fall yet so whatever to that but the way their writers handled stuff like mass effect 3, sim city, taking over half a million dollars from Microsoft? Dudes are a bunch of clowns that don't deserve the respect of mentioning their review scores.

I've never played the KZ games for the SP story, for MP is where these games shine, they are not for everybody but if you connect with KZ MP mode it is an incredible experience and a very different beast than BF or COD, not better or worse, just different.

PDZ was an offensively bad game. Its MP was so dysfunctional it hurt.

My impression is that KZ:SF is functional, just not spectacular. But I'll let you know once I've played it.
