Killzone Shadow Fall Review Thread

So you are saying it isn't a good game? What, because of the Polygon Score? All the rest are around a 7/10 or higher, which is good.

Gimme a break dude!!

Kotaku also says do not buy it. I'm sure as more reviews come up it will show the game is an average shooter. Nothing more then a graphics whore that people will buy to show off the PS4.

No different then when Blu Ray first started coming out and everyone got crappy movies that looked good to show off to friends and family.

5 is an absolutely insane score dripping in agenda.

6 was already a fairly absurd score for Mercenaries earlier this year, but well what can you do.

Wait, they gave Mercenaries a 6?
Holy crap. That just ain't right.

Good thing I never base my purchases on negative reviews.
Only when a game that I had no interest in before scores exceptionally well I tend to change my mind and give it a try. Not when I think I'll like the game and it's getting panned by certain sites. If it's universal, then that's another story I guess.

It weird to me that people complain about this when the last two big shooters scored higher when the story is "Latinamerica invades USA" and "Protect Chinese from the Chinese"

Yeah, completely agreed. Like I wrote on the first page:

I'm glad that reviewers are being critical for once, especially on story elements. I just wish they'd do it across the board on all games.

No, because you know deep down that Gies wanted to rate it a shit score and he didn't hold back. Gies's score also makes me wanna go buy it now.

Thanks Gies.

Yup, after listening to the last Rebel FM I knew a low score was coming. Broke the seal on my case anyway. I need it in my life.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
He has an Agenda, just like the entire site does for obvious reasons. It's why no one here or who is a reasonable person takes them seriously.
What are the obvious reasons?

Hahhahhahaa

The catharsis for Arthur Gies after that review.

He's going to sleep like a baby tonight after months of emotional trauma from defending the Xbox one.

Nine years ago, the first Killzone game offered us an unforgettable, iconic image: a gas-masked space Nazi, eyes glowing a malevolent ochre, standing under a cherry blossom tree. A strong start - and yet since then, the series has been groping for an identity that could live up to that look and set it apart from its FPS peers. It's never quite found it.

It's all the more frustrating that Shadow Fall fails to establish that identity, because it gets so close in its early design and themes. It sets up an open-ended tactical shooter in a cynical world of sci-fi realpolitik - and then bottles it, taking the easy escape route of another suicide mission into empty spectacle. There's a lack of confidence here that contrasts starkly with Guerrilla's dazzling, sure-footed command of the new hardware. It's a game that any new PlayStation 4 owner will be proud to show off - but it won't be one they remember by the time PS5 rolls around.

*Sigh* Exactly what I was afraid of - the writing fails to live up to the technical side yet again.

Maybe it'll be better once I play it for myself; but seems many reviewers feel the same way.

Oh, well... I'll be enjoying this Killzone as eye candy... like all the others.

Why do you guys make such a big scene out of this stuff? It always makes gamers online look so bad. Wait until you play the game and then you can deconstruct the reviews point by point. Hysterical screaming is so wasteful.

Pretty much.

Polygon gave Knack a 6, and this a 5. With the other review scores for each, how do you determine Knack is a higher scoring game than KZ?

Am I the only one that enjoys the setting of Killzone, that enjoys what Guerilla are trying to do with the cold war themes? Sure they may not always hit the spot, but it's a damn sight more interesting to me than yet another conflict with the US military in a random desert country.

criticising the story seems odd when you have the hokum of stuff like CoD.

Maybe its just that I like single player FPS games and don't play much MP
I LOVE KZ setting, can't wait to dive in :)

All the people expecting Killzone to be a good game and not just a fantastic graphical showcase was in denial.

Bought a ps3 in preparation of owing a ps4 and the Killzone games are all average.
No, stop this ridiculous hindsight nonsense that some gaffers are guilty off. Devs can improve. So can you.

Politics are starting to influence VG reviews a little too much for my taste. Telling people they shouldn't play a game because its story doesn't reinvent the wheel, lol.

Hearing that the more open level design quickly regresses is probably the biggest disappointment for me. I've always felt Killzone, as a series, really isn't all that great (I don't think Killzone 2 is a good shooter at all, but Mercenaries does some great stuff), but the wider play space and open level structure had me more excited than I would be for a Killzone game.

disappointing, but hopefully that is launch game syndrome. I hope they get the chance to do a sequel with more time

Says the man with the Killzone avatar.

Sorry, but calling Polygon a joke because "muh exclusive game review score is low" is just laughable. To accuse Polygon of a bias when you obviously have some bias in expecting 7-9 review scores as standard for a big budget, well-marketed, game that you're anticipating is to some extent hypocritical.

As someone who dislikes 75% of the killzone games, polygon is a joke and it has nothing to do with this score. I haven't played shadow fall yet so whatever to that but the way their writers handled stuff like mass effect 3, sim city, taking over half a million dollars from Microsoft? Dudes are a bunch of clowns that don't deserve the respect of mentioning their review scores.

OH SHIT!!!

The war has begun. LOL.

Now let's wait for the XBO reviews.

Bold arrogance. You're talking to some people that have multiple playthroughs of Killzone 2 or 3. How are they in denial with having had fun with these games?

I'd like to see the ridiculous campaigns of previous CODs and BFs held to the same standards...but that's not what this is all about I guess.

I've never played the KZ games for the SP story, for MP is where these games shine, they are not for everybody but if you connect with KZ MP mode it is an incredible experience and a very different beast than BF or COD, not better or worse, just different.

from the eurogamer review

:(

And it all seemed so promising after "you have to turn on your brain" was a complaint in the Gamereactor review. As Eurogamer is one of the few games review sites I trust (despite them dropping the occasional turd) that's not a good sign.

So the main concern is that the game is difficult? Game journalists at their best, can't even play the game.

Can we please please please ban Polygon?
Also I don't get the logic of "it's all the same stuff we've seen before" but rating COD higher, isn't that the same stuff as well? At least KZ brings next gen into the mix.
Jeff isn't a pessimist, he's just a man with specific tastes. He loved the Syndicate shooter.
That's good news, because I liked the syndicate shooter too.

It's always funny how so many people's reaction to low scores is just to censor them and close up the echo chamber rather than discuss them.

EDIT: See also two posts above.
