Persona 5 - First details from Dengeki

Do you guys think we'll get the option to rename the main character again, and potentially choose between male and female protagonists?

With all the spin-off games as the anime, and having to give the dude a name (honestly don't know if there was a default all along), I wonder if they'd tackle that up front, or just come up with it later again if they need a name.
No reason to believe the contrary. Atlus will likely come up with "canon" name(s) for the main character(s), but they will likely still give us the option to give them whatever names we want. As for having the option to choose between male and female protagonists, it is safe to predict we will get only a male protagonist, but I must say I REALLY hope Atlus give us that option. After P3P, that became extremely important to me.

Actually, there were a few exceptions to the "Persona game" rule in P1 and P2, but I don't remember if they were any of them. I guess another way to gain one would be:

-
Possession by Nyarlathotep

No, that's #3.

There's that one, too. The
fateful handshake
method.

You're missing that Chidori
used her persona multiple times outside the dark hour

Yeah, sort of. Though I think the other exceptions that come from P1 and P2 would also fall under that.

Hyper-super-secret clip from opening cutscene!

I would buy 20 copies of a Persona game that took place in a dystopian future high school.

Making flowers bloom.

Oh, and her quick healing powers? Eh, I don't know. It would make sense for the Strega group and the anti-Shadow weapons to be able to use a Persona in the real world, though.

Now that I think of it, (P4A spoilers)
Labrys awakened to hers and it partially manifested in the real world.

You know, I wonder if they even have some semblance of a set rules (or a set of rules that can adapt as they add to the lore) to go by for the writers? What's the possibility that they just make it up as they go along?

High, though I can't imagine they never asked themselves, "What would happen if Yosuke tried to summon Jiraiya at Junes?" The answer to that was probably, "We'll figure it out when it matters."

So I guess in general evokers restrict persona use to the dark hour and accepting your true self let's you use persona inside the tv world. (with a few exceptions)

While playing the Persona game is the only way to be able to use it anywhere.

You think? Haha.

Always wondered why they just didn't keep it consistent with P1 and 2. Newcomers won't know that it's already established lore and older players would appreciate the reference.

EDIT: Igor could just make it part of the contract not to fuck up shit in the real world with Persona powers.

I'd put it 50-50 though some intstances make sense in context of the others.
Ah, and I also just remembered, Fuuka used her persona in arena from outside the TV world
.

Rise says she wishes she could summon her Persona in the real world during the Port Island trip so it seems like they can't.

Does she say this or are you referring to the "drunk" scene?

That's true as well. Seems that P4A actually already explicitly established that at least some of them can.

Oh I see, I don't remember that part.

So I guess only the P1 and P2 cast can summon Personas in the real world?

No it's when Teddie shows up outside the the hotel.

Huh, that's right. "If only I could detect people in the real world." So far, we have concrete evidence of certain P3 characters using theirs in the real world (Fuuka, Labrys) and only evidence that the P4 characters can't.

I would be pretty disappointed if we didn't have the usual blank slate character in P5. Not sure what people want. It's not like it's the usual nods at everything protagonist. You get plenty of opportunities to voice your opinion (even if it doesn't lead to anything different).
I think they might as well not bother with the illusion of the 'blank slate' if they're going to commit to a specific characterization (like they have with all of the Persona protagonists except maybe P1's) in later media, anyways. P2 is really just my case in point in how much better off the games would be if your MC could participate in conversation and the like without the silent gesticulating. Maya in IS is an extraordinarily vibrant, bubbly, colourful character before EP essentially rendered her mute (bar a few dialogue options) because of some obligation towards 'silent' SMT protagonists (which to my understanding the team was in no small amount of controversy over), and on the flip-side, the silent protagonist of IS, Tatsuya is much more interesting with a voice and a real personality in EP.

Heck, Tatsuya is already initially interesting in IS because he has an established name, personality and history that come into play in the story.

Haha, all of this is all true, what they did to Maya should be punishable by law.

Especially the part about Tatsuya being more interesting in EP.. He's fully realized character in EP, and the game immensely benefited from it. I think IS would have been a stronger game if he talked from the get go.

You really wanted to play with her didn't you?

There's the question of the thread. Seeing as how they pulled her from persona 3 to 4, what are the chances that she makes an appearance in 5? For that matter what are the chances we get another teacher obsessed with a specific culture(Ala Egypt lady and Samurai teacher who both happen to be related)?

They should bring this guy back as a substitute teacher

Magic fingers! He trained in America to master the chiropractic arts! There's no disease or injury He can't cure! Be at ease and trust your back to his... magic fingers! Come again if you ever get tired. There's nothing these fingers can't cure. Magic fingers!

... And I had just forgotten how creepy/weird the shops and healers were in Persona 1 and 2. Thanks.

They say that Persona 5 is a RPG with the message of expressing the emotional catharsis in the shout of joy made after overcoming your trials and finally being set free of your chains. I would say that the theory about it being about pressure and stress from the Japanese school system is probably a very good guess.

this sounds pretty cool, i hope it maintains the darker vibe the teaser gave. i haven't yet played 2, but several on here seemed to say it called back to that, was that the feeling you/others here got?

High school again...

tumblr_mlp29qg5C91rkj8fwo1_400.gif

...welcome to Persona? i don't know if you were hoping for Saved by the Bell: The After Years or what, but that's the setting. the variances between even 3 & 4's school/towns etc were big enough for me to not feel same-y.

I would buy 20 copies of a Persona game that took place in a dystopian future high school.

also i'd buy 22
