Bravely Default |OT| A better Final Fantasy than Final Fantasy

Do the characters have different affinities for the jobs? (Like Agnes is best for magical stuff, while Edea is a physical attacker) Or am I free to choose?

Skip the PS4 (for now). Less "greatness awaits", more "greatness".

Between Bravely Default and ALBW I am partying like it's 1992. It's a SNES renaissance!

And a PS1 one :)

3DS is going wild indeed, this game and Layton Azran are two of my top anticipated games of all time

Just bought Zelda LTTP too and will soon be playing it :), so exiting times

I dont even think of next gen yet, i still have a ton of 3DS games to get and Dark Souls 2

Probably i will delay any next gen purshase until 2015 or Witcher 3 is out on PS4

aww fuck multiple endings?

If the requirements are bullshit, there'll be hell to pay. If you're going to clarify this, spoiler tag pls.

If it's unchanged from the original game,
there is a normal ending which you can trigger early at multiple points in the game, and a true ending which just requires you to play normally.
Strangely, I think
it's easier to get the true ending than the normal ending, since that requires you to defy the game's instructions.

I'm still angry about that because
I accidentally triggered the event that led to the early ending because I got too curious about a certain something, and the game decided to spoil parts of the plot I wasn't even supposed to know at that point.
I hope they have fixed that for the new version.

What do you mean? Did you MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
trigger it within the first four chapters?

Petty thread title, but I guess I shouldn't expect better.

The mechanics have a twist, as JRPGs tend to have, but is the combat easy to overpower to the point where it doesn't matter, as JRPGs tend to be? How is leveling balanced?

It's less about your character level, and more about what skills and abilities you have equipped. And I must admit, there are several overpowered combinations to be found. Lategame bosses can still pose a challenge though.

It actually looked pretty good until I saw her face.

A little. Agnes has a few more Magic points, Edea has a few more Strength points, but it's really minor.

This will be my Christmas game. I saved my money and skipped the new Zelda in order to get this one in the release. I'd rather support this title. Looks and sounds great!

What's the cheapest place to preorder btw?

Cheers added.

Ssuming you are in the UK it's Shoptooie: http://www.gamecrawler.co.uk/compare/bravely-default-3ds/B00CETU3DE But if you want a bonus artbook you can go to GAME:

Are there DL costumes?
There are DL costumes for the Japanese version but I haven't been able to find anything regarding the western version except this snippit from a Tumblr user:
The new DLC costumes are included as a DLC code and are compatible with Bravely Default: For the Sequel (worry not foreigners; the DLC costumes from both BDFF and BDFS are in the game itself overseas)

I did it
in chapter 5
, then the
characters started talking about things such as "Irregulars" and some parallel universe Edea getting killed when they couldn't possibly know at that point of the game :(

Can't wait to see if they adressed my main complaint from the original. It's THAT point, the one I cannot talk about because it's a big big spoiler. It has left such a bad taste in my mouth. It was like being super high, flying up there and being dragged to the floor a bit too abruptly...

Wait wait what triggers this?
I really like to go off the beaten path.

The official twitter account got back to me and said I can use my digital BDFF's save with a retail BDFtS, so I'm happy now. Went and ordered the game with the artbook, Project Mirai 2 and a new, white XL.

There'll be a live broadcast on Monday, too, for anyone interested. Edea's VA will be hosting again, and they'll also show the extra bosses taken from 4HoL.

Thread here. I was going to cancel my nicovideo premium subscription the same day they announced the thing :/

Didn't know there was already a thread for it.

Is it also known that the first print run in Japan will use shiny paper for the cover?

I don't know of any Yoshida artbooks, but the new Bravely Default one includes stuff from 4HoL as well as almost everything from BDFF itself. I might take a few pictures when I get my copy, if it's allowed, but I wouldn't risk scanning it or I'd likely bend the pages.

I posted the shiny paper cover here but I didn't mention it's first-print only. I was forced to order a second copy of the game because of reasons, I guess I can keep one of them sealed as a collectible :/

Yeah, saw you mention that in the other thread.

Although, if it's possible to upload FtS save data to the members site, just as you can with the original versions data, then it may actually be possible to transfer data between a digital and physical copy of the game by means of uploading the data from one and importing it when starting a new game in the other.

It hinges on FtS being able to upload its data, and what method the game uses to import it though. Might be worth asking the official twitter account.

I asked them 17 hours ago but there's no reply. I couldn't wait any longer because of other reasons, so I had to buy the second physical copy today.

Can't wait for this, I'm skipping Zelda and buying this first. The demo was great, although some job/skill combinations were absolutely overpowered (my party of valkyrie and ninja wrecked the last boss in just a few turn, I didn't even have to heal myself once...)

Can't wait! Played the demo a bit on hard but got destroyed by most encounters. Guess I'll tone it down to normal to get accustomed to the combat.

So I read it in the OP, but just to mega-confirm anyway - the Western version of the game definitely has the option of either the Western dub or the original Japanese voice-track, right?

Added a bunch of reviews, jpggames, (German), ingame.de(German), Gameliner(dutch review site), and Nintendolife(English) reviews. I haven't seen a score below a 9 yet, this might be the highest reviewed 3rd party game in a while.

So pumped to play this game when it comes out in America.

Its metascore is currently higher than Zelda!

albeit only from four ratings

Got a note from thehut saying my game is on the way. I'll be shocked if I can play this on release. Only paid £30 for it, all thanks to a 15% discount code.

Would I be missing anything if I haven't played The 4 Heroes of Light yet?

Just in case it wasn't posted yet,

Nintendo Life 9/10

There’s much to be said in praise of Bravely Default, perhaps too much to fit into a single review. What must be relayed, however, is that Bravely Default stands as an absolute triumph of both game design and the reinvigoration of old concepts, claiming its rightful place as a giant in the JRPG genre that will surely be remembered as a classic in years to come. Any 3DS owner with even a fleeting interest in role-playing games and a desire to get lost in an incredible, engaging adventure would be doing themselves a huge favour by picking up Bravely Default without delay.
