PS4 sells 80,000 units at launch in Spain, 3.5:1 ahead of XB1

Expected to be honest although it seems MS managed to stock quite a few XB1's to Spain

So 80,000 PS4 units and ~23000 XB1's in Spain

Gap will likely increase at least a bit with time and more shipments of PS4's

I'll ask again. What was the PS360 ratio in Spain?

3.5 sounds about right.

Thank you. So keeping the same historical ratio. Interesting. I would have thought that the ratio would have been higher in favour of Sony.

It will, but PS4 has been sold out here. This week restocks are coming and I know a few people that already got their call for pickup on thursday

I had to visit around 30 different stores, in malls, tech shops and game shops, in different locations, to find a single PS4.

And it was by luck, at 10 pm (closing time) in a big tech shop that was restocking a few units to be ready the next day at opening. They restocked 3 in a huge MediaMark (and it was a expensive Killzone pack for 500€, instead of the 450€ one that you could, if reserved, get on GAME).

Chains as GAME or FNAC were offering me to preorder it to be able to get it at december 20.

Meanwhile, i found XBO in nearly all the stores. Not tons of them, but a few on most stores. There were tons of WiiU, by the way (even old packs as ZombiU ones) in every big store.

It's like Christmas 2006, but changing Wii for PS4, PS3 for XBO, and 360 for WiiU.

what? believe me, here in Spain people are always like crazy for a PS console, no matter what situation we may be living. Spain is well known for being Sonyland. and btw, we're not in shambles.

so, shocking news

You're right, but to me wages are important to take in perspective when comparing new consoles sales.

The 50% employed youngs have to deal with this too:
UK PS4: 349.99 pounds (~417.49€)
UK Minium wage: 1044.52 pounds (~1245.97 €)

Spain PS4: 399€
Spain minium wage: 645 €

There's 15k unfulfilled pre-orders. If we took those into account, the ratio would've been 4.2:1.

Do you know if Xbox One is freely available in Spain?

It'll be interesting to see what trends occur once stock starts to stabilize in a year or so

Yeah. Especially once we get past the initial gimped Xbox One launch titles and devs figure out how to get 1080p out of it.

Multiple accounts of SpainGAF saying it's readily available.

Okay. So the ratio is only going to increase in Sony's favour. I can see 4:1 at least.

I wonder how MS will react to these ratios once the dust has cleared and it's obvious to the world that the PS4 is heavily outselling Xbox One.

If they care about the rest of the world I think they have to redo the OS to make it controller friendly and pull kinect from the box, they need to be price competitive if they want a chance at competing on a global level [Not sure they do though]

What is the situation in other parts of Europe where only Sony launched and not MS?

Like Poland for example?

Nothing was annouced by Sony Poland by getting PS4 in bundles below 600 Euro is nearly impossible and restock of non bundled model was gone in less than hour despite 450 euro prices :(

I think at this point their 'vision' of the product is more important to them then market share. Which is a very odd think to do from a business point of view. That arrogance will bite them in the arse.

as a spaniard I can guarantee you there's nothing MS could do to balance the ratio

It does seem odd to me as they've already compromised so much on their original plans that they wouldn't make moves to lower their price although I suppose right now they are selling out (more or less) so price drop would wait until next year at earliest

ajajaja... some minutes ago, before knowing about this thread, i wrote in another thread:

title of the thread: Game Reactor: Xbox One not hitting delayed regions until Q3 2014?

my comment: "well, they can send to those countries the xboxes that they have on spain, because it seems that the ps4 is going to be like the ps2 here... time will tell"

if you live in spain, you knew that this was going to happen. Actually, i thought that spain would be one of the delayed regions because... why bother

People say that europe is sony land. Spain really is sony land :p (i have only owned nintendo consoles, but almost 100% of my friends had the ps2)

If things continue like that I think we'll see something like a 3:1 ratio for the PS4 in Europe. I don't think MS has any chances to do as good as the 360 did.

You mean in Europe, or just in general, as so far the Xbox One appears to be outpacing the 360 by quite a bit overall, but of course it's too early to draw any major conclusions from that.

I'll ask again. What was the PS360 ratio in Spain?

In a recent interview Sony Spain said 55% PS3, 15% X360 and 30% Wii. I had a comment with the link in other page.

The minimum wage is 645€. I just checked.

Yeah, and the lack of competition is sad. In this last generation, at least every homeconsole had a healthy amount of shelf space. If we get to a point where we see again PS2 levels of marketshare, it won't be bad if Sony screwed us with the PS5 (though I shouldn't be worried yet, since they console curse is with multiples of three.)

By being a drain on better performing economies within the EU, one of many reasons why the Brits want a referendum to leave the union.

Really? You're really going to do this? I'm a Brit and I'm shamed by our ignorance over Europe, and you're doing a stand-up job of reinforcing that stereotype, so thanks.

Not quite. Playstation Spain can claim any ratio difference it wants. The fact is, no one knows the Xbox One sales figure in Spain. It hasn't been released.

GfK tracks Europe...lots of people have a full spectrum of hardware sales for Spain.

SCEE Spain would easily get called out if they weren't telling the truth.

just like other countries in the world, you know, cheaper, more powerful etc etc, just logical behavior. wouldn't you agree? maybe this time it was you that chose blindly like your fellow spaniards last gen? (according to you post history)

Spanish here.

Since forever my country has been Sonyer. Any other console that was not a PS is almost not known and if you had a Nintendo console everybody would laught at you telling things as "Nintendo is for kids" (GameCube and Nintendo 64 ages).

Here people only buys a console for FIFA and for COD. And I swear everybody calls every console a "play" (as from Play Station)

"Vamos a jugar a LA PLAY" = "Let's play with the console"
"Que play tienes" = "What console do you have?"

Here "PLAY" almost means "console". Tell some body "I have an Xbox" and they will say "u have a what??? Can u play FIFA with that?"

Those high numbers doesn't match the high unemployment rate. This is magic.

Don't...even...ask.

Years ago you could change the word "play" (playstation brand) for Nintendo without problems. People tend to speak about the brands they know. Right now Sony Playstation is popular here like Nintendo was in the past.

Besides, I don't know why people is still saying sonyland, etc, when Nintendo DS and Wii were very popular here.

This is a little innacurate and only applies to casuals and local dudebros (canis)

You can say the same thing in USA with Madden/COD and the XBOX.

so weird you chose that wording since you're also Spaniard, why not saying "our fellow Spaniards" ? ?

apart from that, the news are not really shocking, Xbox is irrelevant compared to "La Play" in Spain, Xbox One can be found everywhere while a lot of people still waiting for their PS4 consoles, the ratio will get at least to 5:1 later in 2014.

Be careful when you come down from the top of your Ivory tower.

Pace of sales means nothing, especially when the market has changed so drastically since the last console starting point.

360 was a nobody when it launched compared to the PS2.
Wii muddled up the market due to its extremely high initial demand.
PS3 fucked up badly that its early sales was practically a disaster.

As we are now, WiiU started strong, but fizzled out so quickly whereas Wii maintained crazy momentum for years.
PS4's launch is outright destroying PS3's despite PS3 starting off a stronger predecessor console. (PS2).
XB1 is... outselling the 360, which was supply constrained at launch, but also the fact that it was not a 'Playstation'. Now Xbox has become a top gaming brand as well, so the brand has established itself firmly.
