XBL: Games with Gold

Microsoft finally getting their head out of their ass with their "free game" offerings, I would be pretty satisfied if I were a gold member but I see no reason to buy a live subscription just for these two games as I don't find the service as valuable as PS+...


However I have like 4 48 hour/7 day xbox live gold inserts that I haven't used yet, are free games obtainable with the trial codes or do they just provide access to online mulitplayer?


Sleeping Dogs is the newest game to be offered by the GWG program is it not? It's a start but still doesn't compare to PS+ by long shot (nothing for Xbox One)

I already own them on the 360, but it looks like it's going to be a decent month for GwG.

The co-op mode in Guardian of Light is amazing.

Gears 2 campaign is much better than GoW1. About the only thing better in GoW1 was the atmosphere and a non-atrocious final boss battle.

Nope, you'll need a real gold membership. Even an endless supply of 48hr codes wouldn't suffice.

Well shit, I already have those 2 :(

Sleeping Dogs is one of the best games of 2012, nice to see MS moving in the right direction with an 18 month old game rather than a 5 year old game though! Already got 100/100 and 100% on Steam.

Sleeping Dogs was insanely cheap when I grabbed it off GoD, must have been 2012 Xmas?

Oh well, time to wait for Feb!

Well I admit I pulled that comment out of my ass, and based it on what I've heard from others. I haven't played it yet. Your post makes me more excited to eventually try Judgment out.

It's just as much fun to play now as it was then. Not to mention, not everyone has both systems.

Basically, is Sleeping Dogs + Guardian of Light worth $5 (MSRP of 1 mo XBL based on 1 year sub)?

If both games are worth $5, then it's a good deal because you can figure you're getting the games, and all of the other XBLG stuff is free.

I'd expect them to at least keep with PS+'s offerings. I already played Sleeping Dogs via Plus and bought it on PC for a few bucks. MS still has no excuse for charging more for XBLG than Sony does for a mych superior service. Kinda reminds me of the X1 being the weaker, less capable console yet also more expensive. It's ridiculous

The 48 hour free gold are Gold for 48 hours + its benefits as far as I am aware... no harm in giving it a try. Unlike PS+ you won't lose the games after it expires, and worst case scenario you wasted a 48 hour card you seem like you are uninterested in using in the first place.

Both of those games are incredible, especially Lara Croft, it's the couch coop game of the generation for me.
Lara Croft is old, and Sleeping Dogs is 6 months late, but it's still much better than all of the previous months of XBL games with gold combined.

Regardless both games are sweet so folks who never bought either game or got Sleeping Dogs for free on PS+ are in for a treat.

Guardian of Light is a pretty fun game especially in co-op; it reminds me of the Dungeon Duos mini game from Mario Party 4. Lost interest half way through the game to play other games, but I enjoyed it.

Sleeping Dogs (shout out to Monkeythumbz for giving me a copy of the game for free <3) is pretty bad ass because of the combat and setting alone. I enjoyed it a lot enough that I got almost all the story DLC's. A man who never eats pork buns is never a whole man indeed.

Great treat for late adopters as well. I completed the game on PS3, working on Steam and I'm stupid enough to give it a try again just for the hell of it.

I remember buying LC and never finding anyone to play the game with, it was a chore and never beat it.

Couldn't be further from the truth. I'll give you the campaign - that was enjoyable. But the multiplayer was horrible. They took out everything that made Gears so great. There's virtually no strategy anymore and it just turned into a generic run and gun. If PCF or Epic Poland or whatever the hell they call themselves now makes the next iteration of the series then I'll just pretend Gears 3 was the last game in the series and play that til they shut the 360 servers down.

I am usually right there with people when talking about how piss poor GwG is, but this time I think the complaints about gwg & Sleepy Doggies hold no water. This is the first month Gwg shows value to the community in my eyes.

probably gonna start seeing this more and more, overlapping titles... but... fuck. both games were already free over on PS+ a year or two ago so no need for me to get these on 360. hope we get different titles from PS+ or more MS exclusives though...

My Live expired and I'm not sure if I want to re-up until I can find a deal. I'm seeing an option for a free month but it will be set up to auto-renew. Is it still a giant hassle to cancel?

It doesn't matter whether you think Gears 1 was the best (I also do), it is a 7 year old game, who did they think they were kidding? Felt like they only allowed it on GwG because copies have turned to dust and no longer selling.

Now Sleeping Dogs is better. Good game which is not old as fuck. People might not have picked it up yet.
