Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

If Sakurai was truly reading GAF, he would've announced Ridley as an assist trophy already.

He's gonna do that now because I said it, isn't he?

Pic of the day. A group shot of the big guys. How much bigger are they compared to Mario?

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
If anything, the boxing ring makes me think that he has less of a chance. Why would they put in a generic ring and a Punch-out ring? (I'm not buying the argument that it's secretly a punch-out stage. Every single franchise stage in the games has extreme amounts of personality and is immediately obvious where it's from).

It is immediately obvious if you have played Punch-Out!! Wii.

Holy crap that is a freaky coincidence. Either Sakurai himself reads gaf and enjoys laughing at us, a Nintendo employee reads gaf and they teamed up with him to laugh at us, or fate is a bitch and enjoys laughing at us.

Since the pic of the day is boring (if hilarious), I threw together a quick idea of what I think Ridley's ideal size and proportions would look like, blatantly stealing some of the assets from the drawn size idea on the last page, as well as some images taken from the Metroid Wiki.

This way, Ridley is relatively small on the ground, but still bulky and imposing, but in the air he really shines. And, obviously, his wings and tail wouldn't be included in his hitbox unless he was currently using them for attacks.

GAF talks about Ridley every two days. It's just a coincidence.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Man, I cant believe it took until brawl for dedede to show up

Sakurai was afraid to show favoritism to his series I believe...and then changed his mind in Brawl and made EVERYTHING Kirby.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of elements borrowed from Uprising this time around.

This is why I believe Palutena is in the game. It's obvious. Plus, she's another female character which we've lacked in the series.

Sakurai is a ninja turtle.

If I recall correctly, he didn't get in Melee because Sakurai didn't want it to seem like he was over-representing his work.

Which in hindsight is funny since the mario series and sub series still has the most characters. Heck mario even had his own special alt clone.

I added Dixie Kong and rearranged everything to match my original layout -- the "core four" are in the center, and the third-parties are in the corners. Since each new Smash Bros. game has a radically different character layout, I figured my previous design was too similar to Melee with the series arranged horizontally.
Ooh, I really like the franchise icons there! I'd consider doing that with mine but I don't know what I'd do about some of the new franchises like Punch-Out!! and Xenoblade Chronicles and such.

I made some adjustments to the scaling of the unconfirmed characters in my roster, and now I think this is the final form visually (for real this time, I'm satisfied, lol), so now I'm just waiting on the next character confirmation.

I've always held close to my heart the theory that Bowser was upgraded so he wouldn't be too much like the incoming Ridley. The hunched Bowser we knew will now be incorporated into Ridley's design!

Come on Sakurai prove the believers right! I know you hear my prayers! You hear everything!

Well, two things here.

One, the ring in Punch-Out has never been memorable in its own right, since the focus is always squarely on the boxers.

Two, why would there be a generic ring?

It is also immediately obvious that the Smash stage doesn't look like that.

I think you might have missed something...

Yes, so I would expect them to put something iconic from the series in, like the ref, challenger boxers outside of the ring, etc.

I don't know, why do we have generic battlefield and final destination?

... Was Dedede always that much bigger than Mario? I feel like unless it's just the angle they've fucked around with character scales a bit more in this one.

Aren't you saying that the stage is "generic" enough that it could look like any ring from a Nintendo game?

I don't know, why do we have generic battlefield and final destination?

So Smash for will be the first Smash game with more than two Smash Universe stages?
