Epic Name Bro getting paid to work on something related to Dark Souls 2, thinks Dark Souls 2 is a better game.

Shocking news!!!!!!!

Also if it's anything like the beta, confirmed worse game. Much worse! So slow, RIP demon's souls speed.
If he really thought it was a lesser game, he just wouldn't say anything.

But the question is is it better than Demon's Souls?

Epic is such a great guy and we happen to share many of the same opinions about gaming in general.I'm glad that he got this job.And if he says DS2 is better than DS1 then i trust him.

Still i'm not going to watch any of his playthrough videos until i beat the game myself at least once. :p

Dude I think the guy is sincere, don't be a jerk. Unless you're joking? I can't parse that ASCII. :(

If he really thought it was a lesser game, he just wouldn't say anything.

Well I think he's being sincere I don't think he's some shill or anything, but like other people above have stated some might take his opinion as less impartial.

Also I guess it depends what you enjoyed about the games. In terms of what I cared about for the previous two games it was like 90% PvP and the seemingly slower speed is making me not like Dark Souls 2 that much. ENB is clearly more into the single player game and 'lore' and stuff so if that is more fleshed out I'm sure he and others who enjoy that as well will think it's a better game.

Err...how could DS2 possibly be worse? They have more time to improve the engine, polish gameplay, they can reuse and recycle assets, etc. etc. The story could be worse, in theory, but the story is not really important to this franchise

It would be utterly shocking and ridiculous if the game was worse than DS1. The question really is:

Will DS2 be ENOUGH of an improvement over DS1:
To please the fans?
To bring in newcomers who didn't like demon soul and dark soul enough?
To get a 90% meteoritic rating?
To sell X% more than previous games, where X is a good enough number for you?

I have no reason to believe the NameBro would be disingenuous about his impression, even if he is working on part of the guide.

I really enjoyed his videos.

I think the guide is sold separately. It doesn't seem to be in the product description on Amazon in any case, and it has its own separate product page.

Good for him though! I have enjoyed many of his videos.

Hmm if anyone knows for sure, tell me an I'll update the OP.

He says it's better than Demon's Souls too in the second tweet:

@Woodfella15 As special as DeS is to my heart, DkS2 does indeed trump it due to things I can't talk about yet. Still love Boletaria though!

Just pump up the agility stat then.

eh... while those lore videos were definitely something, the last thing I've seen him do was some network test/beta ramblings, where he continuously smelled his own farts with how he totally knows EVERYTHING about dark souls. now that he's involved in the development process I won't take those claims seriously.

I liked the network test though, so I'm not really worried about it to be bad either.

Perfect person for the job but yeah, what else is he going to say? Plus I guess working on it like this makes it better for him anyway. Just don't have any shit zones like the backend of Dark Souls and it'll be better.

Oh interesting.I wonder what he thinks about the lore compared to Demon's since he really prefered the story of Demon's over Dark's.

The Network Test as a whole was messy on PVP but the little times it worked IMO was decently. I like what they did to the parry and the backstabs.(backstabs still being easy to achieve so maybe tweak it more) Speed was fine depending class and stats which leveling up made it better from what I managed to play. The only concern was some areas being too dark when they shouldnt be (exteriors), weight of armor and weapons felt odd which might be more animation related and maybe up the difficulty a bit as it wasnt that hard to beat the bosses.

Animations on later game footage that is newer code after the beta makes the movement look less clunkier and maybe the speed and weight will feel proper with the right visuals to back it up.

Not necessarily.

Depends on your opinion. There are people that thought Dark Souls 1 was better than Demon's Souls. I think I might be one of them but I'm not going to say it with certainty until I've beat Demon's Souls. From what I've played of both I feel boss design is better in Dark Souls. There are really cheap ways to beat the bosses in Demon's.

Considering the quality of Dark Souls, it would be incredibly easy for the game to be worse! I'm not saying Dark Souls is a perfect game, but practically every series in existence has had entries that disappoint.

I never take for granted that a game is going to be better than its prequel!

Anyway, I believe EpicNameBro on this one. That doesn't mean it will be better for everyone, and it could be a case of new game love that fades over time. But I don't think anyone has directed him to say DSII is a better game.

Sequels often make mistakes. You must have been really picky about the games you play or just lucky, I guess. There's more to a game than a list of improvements.

Personally i like both of them equally but i understand why many people prefer Demon's over Dark.

define cheap? there's just as many cheap ways to kill the bosses in dark souls, DkS just has more of it. you can kill capra demon without entering the fog door.

I thought the first guide was very well put together, will definitely grab this one as well. Only thing that I would like differently is some more lore stuff.

Or just summon other people, since there's 30 summon signs sitting there at each boss door in Dark Souls.

Wow this is pretty amazing! it's nice to see the community getting involved in something like this.

Namco had some of the wiki members work on the guide for Dark Souls 1.

ENB has a knack for interpreting the lore, but it's not exclusive to him. It's all about connecting the dots. But it's definitely a great gig for him, so I'm looking forward to what he contributes.

The hell it isn't.

Where's all this skepticism and cynicism coming from? It seems to be directed at everything lately.
I'm expecting DaSII to be awesome. However his opinion about the quality of the game adds nothing, since he can't say anything bad about it.

I think i prefer the lore to be slowly discovered and unveiled by the community itself rather than an official source to give it to us on a plate.
I LOVE how there are still mysteries and different opinions about many things about the story, world and characters of both games.
If anything i would love them to make the story even more cryptic and add more hidden stuff that connect various elements of the world and characters together.

This the kind of guide that spoils the trap such as the man eating chest?
Those are the kind of guides that are supposed to tell you *everything* about a game, secrets included, and are considered a failure if they miss even the most minute detail.

Obviously they are stuff for completionists, not something people should use at their first playthrough.

Sequels often make mistakes.

Often? No. Not according to my definition of often, which is over 50%. If often is 10% or less, then we have no disagreement.

it is the exception and not the rule. Especially if the game director and the dev team remain the same for the sequel.

I will readily concede that If a game relies on a story, on dialogue, a bad sequel is much more likely. Same goes for movies.

You know that Hidetaka Miyazaki isn't working on this one, right? It's Yui Tanimura that take his role as the game director, though Miyazaki still supervising thing.

I know a lot of concern regarding the game. I believe that the gameplay still a top notch unless they massive changed the core thing into something else. In the end, I'm still get this regardless of ENB's opinion. If he lying in the lore, I'll have his head on a plate, and so does the community on that one.
