Tomb Raider Definitive Edition - PlayStation 4 = ~60fps, Xbox One = ~30fps

Calm down drama queen.

I wouldn't say that this is either a 'HUGE performance difference' or 'significantly weaker'. Anyone who is only playing the XONE version isn't going to notice it. It will not impact their enjoyment of this game in the slightest. It will look and play just fine.

60 > 30 isn't huge?!

Maybe not in your mad world. But yes, unfortunately, a lot of the casuals that buy FIFA and COD every year won't be as perceptible to the big differences.

i think the ps4 users cant complain about the price anymore
1080p60fps seems like a pretty good upgrade

ill skip it since ive got an xbox

You do realize that essentially any DirectX "feature" can be emulated or trumped by PS4's low level access capabilities, right? The difference in multi-platform games is more likely to increase, not decrease.
So a ripped or even emulated feature will perform even better than the original feature? Oo

30FPS is a perfectly acceptable frame rate to play a video game. To be in hysterics because a game is at 30FPS is crazy.

Living in a vacuum, 30fps is fine, but when the same game running on a cheaper system is running at twice the framerate, it is rather concerning.

I don't think people are "in hysterics" because a game is at 30FPS, they're like that because it's at 60FPS on the rival hardware, and it shows a gap in performance that's probably gonna be there for a full gen.

A lot of hardcore gamers love their 60fps. And in terms of resource demand, 60fps is a big deal compared to 30fps. I think that's the story here and why there's no much noise. Why does the PS4 version run at double the frame rate compared to the Xbox One version? (Though the answer is obvious by now.)

I personally would have preferred the PS4 version to stay 30fps and for them to just bump up the graphics even more, but 60fps is very important to a lot of people, so I can see why for the PS4 version they just upped the frame rate.

I wouldn't say no to a 1080p, graphically improved, 60fps version of The Last of Us either…hint hint Sony/ND.

Of course it isn't a big deal, because by far the most of us have already completed the game at that framerate, and it was in the top ten of GAFs GOTY list.

Still, 39 pages, welcome back glorious console wars.

I loved my VHS copy of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, easily in my top 10 as a kid. But if I was going to watch it again I think I'd the pick the Blu Ray version this time.

On a console, an extra API like DirectX is not an advantage for experienced devs. It's an extra software layer that eats resources. The base hardware on both systems is nearly identical so PS4 is capable of the same effects (and more in some cases thanks added emphasis on GPGPU compute.)

Its has been enhanced a bit since the PC version and there are videos that show what was done for the next-gen console versions. Also BF4 looked pretty decent on PS4 compared to it on my PC version but the PC version of BF4 still had an edge, at least on my PC.

No, I can tell the difference on my PC as well, I was just wondering what they had claimed.

Let's do some coldfoot treatment to mocoworm, you say 60fps vs 30fps is no huge difference. Do you remember this?
You know, I never really notice FPS on my consoles. I just play and accept what happens. I don't game on PC.

Seeing this side by side though I can see a massive difference. Even between 30 and 60. I am now sold!

60fps every time
!

I'm not English expert, but "massive" is pretty much the same as "HUGE"

Lol

I wouldn't say Massive is a huge difference, nor huge is a massive difference. Only when he doesn't want to see.

Ick. Maybe on small screen, sure. But 720p on a decent size 1080p TV looks like garbage in comparison. :/ it's literally half the pixels.

I play on 50 inch TV. Resolution doesn't bother me, 1080p with upscale is fine.

Frame rate is way more important.

you know we can almost write up a script for these events now.

1. News breaks that PS4 is demonstrably better at something thanks to its specs/developer environment
2. First 200 posts all "holy fucking shit", "dis gun be good" and on the other side "lazy devs" and "i dont really need to play this in 60 anyway, 30 is fine for this type of game."
3. Someone posts Arthur Gies twitter feed, where he predictably tries to downplay the entire thing while retaining an air of false objectivity
4. Major Nelson's Fun Facts
5. A billion people rightly bring up Albert Penello's 30% post and how he disrespected this community with his deceptions
7. People trying to pretend they're "skeptical" at the news until they hear it from a "better source" (which coincidentally never comes for them)
8. Then people move from trying to deny the news to pretending nobody will notice it or it's not really important for anything anyway. Semantics games all over the place.
9. 30+ other pages of photoshops and other such hilarity

Insert your own steps, it's a game :D

If this kind of difference will be there for a full gen we're looking to a bigger difference than the PS2 and Xbox had which I have to say that I didn't expect. Of course back then the vast majority of the multiplatform games were made on the weaker console (PS2) and then it was ported to the stronger one (Xbox) but this time MS isn't as lucky as Sony was back then and this time the stronger hardware (PS4) is also the lead platform...I guess I shouldn't be surprised at such big differences now that I think about it.

Chill bro...seriously

I am chilled, it would just be nice if we were factual about what is going on with this game.

This just highlights my point how skewed this info can get with people not reading about it properly and thinking it's at 60FPS all the time when it's not.

Why can't people understand I'm not bitter/angry or anything else you want to claim, just want people to be well informed. Is this now a bad thing?

Someone should make a complete list about "Things that suddenly become irrelevant since November":

  • Resolution
  • Framerate
  • Console sales
  • Bribing

Yeah, me too. Wouldn't mind trading some of that extra fps on PS4 for tesselation, which I'm now thinking was removed from both versions so the Xbox One version wouldn't drop below 30fps at 1080p.

I've got nothing to add, it's brilliant! Step 9 is what makes it fun everytime though.

People are informed as they've likely read the OP which states that it isn't locked at 60fps. But any console gamer also knows that any locked framerate, whether it be 30fps or 60fps, is rare. We see this with CoD all the time. It's regularly viewed as being a 60fps game without any arguments, but there aren't any CoD's that actually run locked at that framerate.
