Sonic Boom for Wii U (Big Red Button, CryEngine 3) & 3DS (Sanzaru), new subseries

It actually looks really good for me : Sonic x Jak & Daxter (and other Sony platformers like Ratchet & Clank), pretty graphics, level design seems cool...

It looks better and more ambitious than the recent Sonic games done by Sonic Team. Yes, I said this.

But the faces of the characters, hum... Well, the game is not finished so I hope this will be changed. Otherwise, the new designs are... cool, Knuckles excluded.

Finally the Sonic Cycle Cycle is broken. Well done Sega!

These character designs are yet another example of trying to fix something that wasn't broken, but the game itself looks like it might be neat. I'll give it a chance.

Batteries the CRISIS!
So if BRB and Sanzaru are doing these, I guess Sonic Team is working on a Sonic game for Xbox Three and PlayStation 4. And hopefully PC.

dear god that first shot of the characters
LEGS

Yeah, as bad as Knuckles is, Sonic looked like a lanky *freak*. I also noticed his legs and arms are now blue, as opposed to the same colour as his belly.

I'm reserving judgement on the gameplay, but the character redeigns are bordering on Loonatics Unleashed levels of awful.

no because who actually thinks this would save the wii u?!

This is a tie in with a Cartoon that is aimed squarely at kids.
The Wii U is constantly getting deriding for being "just for kids"

Assuming Sonic Boom is good, and kids enjoy it, you can bet they'll be begging their parents for a WiiU to play the new Sonic Cartoon Game.

That's a lot of assuming though, as I don't think the cartoon will be any good in the first place.

So is there going to be a new form of sonic haters... ones who despise this but love the previous design? That blows my mind.

There'll always be the "GREEN EYES" people that will shit on anything that's not classic Sonic. But they've gotten enough pandering through the last three or four games and Sega is probably more interested in experimenting with the gameplay at this point (just try to make it better than Lost World, kthx)

Sonic's legs look terrible in that screencap but overall I think the redesign looks good. I just want to play a Sonic game with exploration and I hope this is it.

If this isn't a franchise-wide reboot, and just a spin-off series, then I'm fine with this.
If this is completely changing Sonic, then fuck this series I'm done.

Had to let it play through a couple times for the quality to increase, but I got these:

Little better quality shots I guess.

Amy looks like a Zombie in that. There's like no life in those eyes.

And man these models are so goddamn terrible. And that stupid Skrillex music was awful. Outside of that it looks like it could possibly be good, seems like R&C, which I guess a lot of people agree with. But they really gotta redesign the characters.

EDIT: Aside from that lifeless shot, Amy looks pretty good, and I actually really like Tails. Everyone else has already covered Knuckles, and Sonic looks like he was on a torture rack

SANZARU GAMES?!??

WHERE'S SLY 5?

My reaction too. But apparently their just making the 3DS game, so they should have plenty of time/resources left for Sly 5. Need my PS4 Sly fix.

As for this game, looks like your typical, rubbish TV series tie-in. I'm a little intrigued by the new gameplay style, but that interests is offput by how crappy the footage in general looks.

On the bright side, Sonic Team's not making it. SO maybe this Sonic Boom stuff won't overwrite the current games afterall.

The enviorement in that CryEngine demo looks really great, but the character designs... I hope they change them a little...

Sonic himself looks strung out and washed up, this will be a tale of redemption. Knuckles started to use roids because he thirsty for Amy. Amy is fucking Tails hoping to make Sonic jealous, but all Sonic wants is the booze and memories to go away.

Sonic Boom, changing faces and changing paces.

I was about to say I'm ok with this reboot until I saw that trailer.

I don't even know what to think. For the first time in my life they have put out a Sonic trailer that makes me feel nothing. Not joy or anger, just nothing. Nothing about this appeals to me in any shape or form. This looks about as outsourced and focus tested as it can get.

The one thing the Sonic franchise didn't need after Sonic Lost World was a VISUAL change. That game turned out to be pap but the art style was close to perfection. but now this.

I....I don't think Sonic is for me anymore guys.

No, Sonic 2 and Sonic Adventure 2, as well as those other titles, were made by Sonic Team USA

Eh, STUSA was still a Japanese-run gig, with the majority of names in the credits for those games being Japanese. They both very much play, look and sound like Japanese-made games.

But this doesn't at all. It screams its Western origins more than Traveller's Tales, STI, or Sumo's Sonic games did.

It IS that bad.

I loved--LOVED--Colors and Generations. So much fun. I had high hopes. I played the game for an hour and then sold it. The controls are horrible, there's no real sense of speed, and it's incredibly frustrating. Just a terrible game. Biggest disappointment of last year for me.

Exactly how I felt about it after loving Colours and Generations and Unleashed day time (which you can mod into PC generations and is glorious). I didn't sell or trade it in though and played through till the end because I have issues and I hate myself.

Those character designs really do look weird in that trailer. Looks like there's less of a focus on speed too which I'm not sure I like. At least Tails, Knuckles, and Amy are playable again.

I've heard mixed things, was it really that bad? I'll probably pick it up sometime when I get a Wii U just cause I'm a Sonic fan and it looks like it could be fun.

I thought Jim Sterling's review was pretty spot-on. It's an interesting take on Sonic but it has a lot of dumb stuff in it and can be very frustrating. I personally liked it and was hoping they'd continue improving on its formula but I guess we're getting... this.... instead

The only thing wrong with Sonic is the legs, and perhaps the overuse of tape. Otherwise, he, Tails and Amy look fine. Knux man...

Environments look gorgeous though.

For whatever reason Sega refuses to stick to one Sonic formula.

This is the biggest shame of all of this.

Lost World was good, almost great.
I was really excited to see where they took the parkour system next, as once you feel like you've mastered it in Lost World, there's not much that really tests you on it.
I guess We'll have to wait for whatever is after this to see if they expand on it or not.

Im probably the only one, but i think it looks amazing

I dont think it will LOOK that good when finished. But if its a co-op open world sonic game.. best idea ever

Exactly right. Lost world looked fine. Sonic didn't need a redesign, he needed a competently made game.
