He worked on all the Jak games and the first Uncharted as well as most of the Crash games.
That's why I'm getting a Sony platformer vibe. New blood/ Non-Sonic Team people developing it has me a bit hyped. Hilariously designed characters aside, this looks pretty interesting.

No its not, we had a ND in december, we have them every other month(and not even this early, usually is like "month the 14" or whatever
We usually get a chotto direct, or a western focused direct to help fill the gap. That didnt happen despite having games shown off like the indies games like shovel knight or sonic boom.

I can't believe I'm saying this about a modern Sonic game, but it actually looks both visually and mechanically interest(character designs aside). I'm actually interested in how this turns out.

from the press release:

About Big Red Button Games:

Based in Los Angeles, CA, BRB was founded in 2009 by Bob Rafei, Jeff Lander, and veterans from leading gaming studios such as Naughty Dog, Heavy Iron, Luxo Flux and High Impact Games, to leverage team’s specialization and prior experience in character action game development.
So not only is a veteran of pre-Naughty Gods Naughty Dog leading the ring...

At best, they also have veterans of the Ratchet PSP games, SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom and the SpongeBob movie game.
At worst, they also have veterans of Jak: The Lost Frontier, Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse and pre-Sleeping Dogs True Crime.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Hmm, perhaps it just seemed longer with the holidays, but didn't they have one before the Annual investor meeting last year?
A panicked nintendo had one in january but we shouldnt expect that everytime. besides that nintendo would have smaller directs inbetween but they didnt do that these past month.

I really hope the art and design will be the least of this game's issues. Another exploration based Sonic game could be incredible if they do it right. But then seeing them boosting on a straight track makes me think otherwise about this game.

I really want to see more footage.

I hate to use this phrase, but what in the actual fuck are they thinking. "Our Sonic games were getting too good lately, let's be sure to fuck one up real good guys!"

Nah, that already happened when they released Lost World. Now they're getting a new really good dev to make an interesting new take on the series that should be pretty good to make up for how Sonic Team fucked up the last game.

Bob Rafei's BRB is behind this?!
I'm optimistic, he's my favourite VG artist, and I'm glad to see something come from Big Red Button finally.

Love everything except the music for the trailer.

Oh, and what's up with the faces?! I was hyped then I saw Sonic's first look at his face and was all like ''Uuuugh what the fuck they did to his face'' o_O

I'll probably end up buying it day one, unless it's a total disaster.

Well we've seen quite a few open areas with certain characters being in areas that seem tailored for others (i.e Tails, Knuckles and Amy being in a speed ramp that seems to be tailored for Sonic's high speed, presumably co-op). We also know we're supposed to change characters on the fly and that there's to be a good degree of exploration.

The best case scenario is that we're going to be able to tackle vast levels as any character, and that each will have perks that assist in getting through different segments.

At worst we're looking at All 4 One tedium.

So the design in the show isn't bad but the models in game look horrible, the game itself seems fun though, especially with the whole exploration thing. Some source somewhere said the new designs aren't replacing the old ones but I'm too lazy to find it. Honestly this whole thing really reminds me of when Crash got a redesign, it even looks pretty similar.

Have you seen the reviews for Lost World? This seems more like they fucked up so bad they're testing a reboot with new devs and a cartoon series.

There hasn't been any correlation between quality and sales. Might as well change things up and hope to strike gold.

This has been in the works since long before Lost World released. If anything, interest in this project drained resources from Lost World's development.

This guy according to his linkedin account is lead level implementor

http://www.linkedin.com/in/senntient

Here are two big things I noticed on his page

■ Sonic Xtreme - Sega Technical Institute - Sega Saturn adventure game * unreleased
Co-designed overall game design & realtime in-game editor. Generated levels, designed characters & mechanics, created storyline, & managed various team members while providing art direction.

■ Comix Zone - Sega Technical Institute - Sega Genesis action game
Created computer graphics & animation for two levels, various characters & special effects for single player action game.

This actually looks really promising to me, the game itself looks like a lot of fun. Being made by the devs behind Crash and Jak also excites me greatly (and it shows!). Sanzaru making the 3DS version is also very, very interesting; I loved Sly 4 so I'm excited to see what they're doing there.

Everything went better than expected. Character designs are still pretty bad though. >_>

This is getting annoying.
Modern (Unleashed-LW) Sonic is fine.
This is partially why this reboot is annoying me, though I'm hearing conflicting messages about whether it's a reboot or just a spin-off that'll run alongside the 'main' franchise.

They finally got a design and overall-aesthetic for the modern games that was nice and appealing for the most part, so why throw that all out almost immediately afterwards?

SEGA has thoroughly expressed that this a sub-series which will not replace the main one.

Since everyone is posting the bad screencaps again and again... let´s post some of the good for a change.

I still like how the game looks aside from the characters.

Alright then, though this game still isn't leaving a remotely good first impression.

Ex Crash/Jak/Sly 4 guys working on both versions is promising though, so I'm not going to completely write it off just yet.

EDIT: I swear it looks like Sonic's character model is either stretched out to exaggerate his run-cycle or his rig is literally breaking in that last shot. Bad idea for a press image either way, though I don't disagree the environments look nice. Sort of remind me of Unleashed's semi-realistic, semi-cartoony style.

The concept art looks fine imo, aside from all the bandages, and despite Sonic being tall and slim. The in game game models just look weird though.
