I had the same issue. Switched from very high AA to high and it solved it

Bingo. 7970 here, had the same issue on launch, I've just been using high.

Is that aliasing on the rails on either side? Or is that the texture of the rails?

I think that's shader aliasing, also for some reason that spot looks much better in the regular shot and gets more aliased when downsampled.

Maybe there are diminishing returns on downsampling with regards to anti-aliasing? To a point where the information lost even attributes more aliasing?

How'd you get screenshots to work? Anything I tried resulted in a black screen.

Didn't make any adjustments, but I have a faint recollection of running into the same problem once myself a while ago.

If the down-sample is a box filter (guessing that it is) even with infinite resolution, you will end up with aliasing when you down-sample, but you gain in "sharpness".

If the down-sample is something like a Mitchell filter, and if you have enough samples/pixel, then you can remove aliasing for a slight reduction in sharpness.

This is random, but someone at Guru3D noticed all your blog entries about TXAA and FXAA had been taken down. Is there a reason for that?

What is downsampling/what is it used for?

Nvidia and ATI cards can render resolutions much higher than the average monitor. They allow users to real-time downsample from those high resolutions to the monitor resolution for vastly improved image quality. Screenshots are taken at the higher resolution though.

A picture of the earthquakes that occur at random times on these maps. Motion blur means that the image is blurry (duh!) but I though it looked really cool.

Yes, it is the fastest way to force NVIDIA to take over hosting all the information for their products. I'm transitioning my personal blog to focus on technical stuff related to my side project, a PC game.

This still seems to have aliasing on the neon lights and rails on the right side, but I think that's about the best you will get with the limited resolution.

This thread made me discover that IrfanView has a Mitchell filter, thanks for that.

Yeah I guess at some point you just want a higher PPI on your monitor, speaking of which. 120hz, 300 ppi, 30", 3840x2160 H-IPS monitor, can I has?
