What shirt should Phil Spencer wear today?

This "EXCLUSIVE!11" announcement before every trailer was cringe worthy.

That and the shit with the shirts and the shills cheering everything and the constant use of annoying buzz terms like "true 4K fidelity" just shows how out of touch they are IMO....

If a game isn't going to make money for MS, and especially if it doesn't have a post launch GaaS setup, it's probably not getting made.

So they are full GaaS and nothing else now? Ori seems to be the outlier at least which makes me happy since that game was pretty awesome.

Other than SoT, where are the GaaS? I don't see it. Forza?

Did you miss F5 getting raked through the coals for their initial GaaS stuff? They let you buy stuff with real money all the time. It seems to me Ori is the only game without GaaS.

Writing's on the wall

If you want single player, strong 1st party games then do not get an Xbox, it's not for you as reiterated by Mr. Phil Spencer, who would rather spend money on bolstering up how good 3rd party games and general games as a service look on Xbox.

I wasn't even looking for a reason to buy Xbox one x, I was just looking for a reason to buy an Xbox one and they gave me nothing. What's the use of going for power when you can't even sell your regular console to gamers like myself.

I legitimately started to nod off about half way through the Sea of Thieves presentation. I don't know many people who will be interested in a quasi-MMO, co-op pirate game where a bunch of the gameplay is just mundane tasks and the rest is hunting down treasure chests for what appears to be crap tier loot.

It really feels like someone had a bigger vision for the game but when it came to execution they realized they couldn't pull it off. Of course, this also gave me the nostalgic "Man, it sucks to see what's become of Rare" thoughts.

The quest riddles looked like a really good idea. There's a granularity there that lends perfectly to a coop game.
They dialed back on the mundane tasks for the presentation.

The main problem is their trying to fix problems that people had 3 years a go with the xbox one. In 2015 and 2016 people just wanted games and at those e3's they showed some promise but now it's like screw games we have to make the most powerful console that will get us the 360 users back we lost. The Xbox brand could be fixed within a few years if they just started working and releasing Ip's they own.

Thought that was a great show overall! Thought I'd see more to get me interested in upgrading to a One X but that price point is a bit too high for me atm. Will continue to enjoy all the announced games on my One S and shift the $399 I would have considered spending elsewhere.

This has to be the least amount of Halo coverage by MS at E3 ever. The only time I recall Halo mentioned was Halo Wars 2 getting a 4K patch. And even that didn't have an upgrade for MMC or Halo 5

Super Luckey's Tale
Ori 2

It looks like they genuinely convinced themselves that the reason they're behind is the power gap.

I thought the conference showed some good and interesting games.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, most of those are not actually exclusive to Xbox.

And I laughed so hard at the thought that Phil made a speech about going to Japan only to bring back a couple games from Namco Bandai that were going to come out on Xbox anyway.

Solid 8/10 though.

Also kind of worried about Crackdown. The new art style makes it look like their budget got cut and we didn't see any building get destroyed.

Not even one new 1st party game is pretty sad considering it's launching a new console and some of those games have been known for years now(crackdown).

Not really necessarily bizarro land then.

Many of those PC games you won't even need to buy from Microsoft's digital store to play on your PC since they'll probably be on Steam/GOG (plus if you have a PS4). And this was a Microsoft conference.

I don't care if it's a MS conference. I'm judging it as a conference that displays games. And I liked a lot of the games I saw (especially Sea of Thieves, and Anthem)

If you only own a PS4 and you see a world premiere of a game in the MS conf that you get really excited about (say for example Metro), you as a gamer should be excited. Seeing fun gameplay of multiplatform games that look good is not a negative for me.

For me, The Last Night and Ashen were probably the highlights and we only got a glimpse of the former, which gave me Flashback vibes with a damn cool artstyle.

Found it hard to keep my attention. Most games looked good but not amazing, which is what I am looking for from the big console guys at an e3 conference.

Oh I know, that's why most are saying it was a good showing for games overall but not a good showing specific to Microsoft in this thread.

I was going to watch but I made fried chicken, milk gravy and biscuits instead. It seems I didn't miss anything, I'm seeing the same games I've heard about for two years, still nothing interesting that isn't multiplatform. Last Night is the only new one that caught my attention and apparently it's only launch exclusive so, oh well. Saves me $500, thanks MS I guess.

They just don't get this simple fact. Why would I buy any of the Xbox one consoles when none of them will offer me with anything on par with the exclusives of Sony. 3rd party games, I can play them all and more on PS4, even if the power is a little less, but they also offer strong 1st party games and strong Japanese game support that Xbox lacks.

Forza also.

I think that whilst the lack of newness was a flaw, if you add up everything in that show and elsewhere, it is due in the next 2-9 months, other than AC and Anthem, i would assume. It is actually a fair amount of gaming for that time period. The issue is the vacuum beyond.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
As a gamer I'm pumped to play games in 4K. They showed a ton of games I want to play. Their exclusives look solid, and one X is a beast.

Looking forward to Sony.

Aside from TLOU2, that is one big multiplatform game, 2 known entities, 2 pipe dreams. Why is that magocally, objectively better, if the problem for MS was known entities? Lack of long term announcements? But SoT has been at 3 e3s, that is a problem. So why not a problem for FF7? Etc.

One is first party and the other is 3rd party. See the difference?

I like what MS brought in terms of games, but if you have a PC or the means to get one, I don't see why you would pick up an X.

If you don't care about performance that much, and want to save some money (when compared to building a PC), then I guess an X makes some sense.

But even then, if you don't care about performance and want cheap, why not just get a PS4 Pro?

It just feels like it's in a weird spot, just above the PS4 Pro, but well below PC. Not sure that's a niche that needs a $500 system.

I think if MS wanted to go all out and build "the most powerful console ever", they should've designed it to perform closer to the higher end of gaming, not just above the mid tier.

Still, I think it was the best E3 MS has done in years.

As I mentioned in another thread, the conference becomes more underwhelming once you realize they didn't have another show after E3 2016. The show we got today is only following what they showed last year. They should have had more of an impact considering how much time they've had.

If they don't think the 3 games I mentioned would make them money, why the hell did they buy Rare?

They were trying to get into the market and thought a developer like Rare would help them to gain market share with the hardcore gamers. You need to remember that this was 15 years ago the market changed.Back then a platformer could sell 5 million copies without having a Nintendo logo in it.

I went in expecting to buy a Scorpio, but saw little justification for it. I have a one S and a pro, so I'll just take my faux K happily there I guess.

Holy fuck that Darwin moba thing presentation was super cringe.

But holy fuck that Dragonball fighter trailer was hype! Makes me wish I actually cared about DBZ.

Yeah, I agree with this. Metro in particular looked great. But i'd be very surprised if a non-Xbox owning gamer was to order one after that.

I think the old Rare IPs have more chance of selling well than this pirate game.

How do you get them? Do I just watch their stream on Mixer and it appears in my library?

It's not a surprise. During the 360 era, MS bought exclusives left and right while Sony invested in 1st party studios giving them free creative reign.

Now we're seeing the fruits of that with MS still having to buy exclusives while Sony now has a wealth of AAA studios under its belt producing exclusive content for the PlayStation brand.

Pretty much, Sony went above and beyond investing and expanding their first party studios last gen to power their comeback (and had already done some of this even when they were on top in the PS1 and PS2 era) and now they are doubling down on them once again.

Admittedly they did close a few that faltered this gen and have gotten rather aggressive (maybe a bit much so?) in marketing partnerships which they had to do more of last gen with MS partnering with a lot of the big stuff like CoD. Though to be fair it's also generally just for some DLC unlike how MS used to use them, for timed exclusivity.

I had a hard time watching the presser when I focused on the audience reaction, they were excited and clapping for the good and bad news even when announcing the high price lol

I love gadgets and I thought this was the time I’d go and get an Xbox with all this hype teasers and power we got but I was wrong so thank you Microsoft for letting me save $499 to get the new iPhone instead :)
