American Horror Story: Hotel |OT| Uh oh! There was a monster in my bed!

5>2>1>3>4

Loved this season. I thought after the past couple seasons that they lost their touch and it would be a shit show until it was finally over for good. Glad to be proven wrong.

Maybe they'll do summer camp for season 6 since that was the rumor for Scream Queens but Murphy ultimately went with a hospital for season 2 of that show instead.

Watched the Liz Taylor death/rebirth scene again and cried a little. Hotel's finale is definitely one of my favorite AHS episodes ever. And because it can't be repeated enough: Liz is brilliant.

I forgot to mention this before, but the way Sally finally found happiness thanks to Iris and social media (lol) was so unexpected and sweet. Everyone uniting as a family or finding love in the end, stars and misfits and ordinary people alike, really got me for some reason.

Who else would love to see Jessica Lange and Lady Gaga share a scene?
My people have a word for this kind of thing: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS!

I've been noticing this thread being on the first page. Has it returned from break? I'm away from home for the month and won't be able to watch =(

Just watched the season 5 finale... this was so bad, it's crazy to think how far they've fallen from the first 2 seasons.

Different taste heh.

This season is one of the worst thing I have seen on TV for years.

The cast is completely wasted too. Criminally so.

It's really horrendous writing wise for me, so I am amused at seeing the wide range of opinions.

1>2>4>3>5...

In any case, I actually liked this season and it's probably the BEST of AHS. I was out after Season 4 and Lange leaving, but Bomer brought be back. And Murphy delievered. .

Yeah er, I can't possibly disagree more. And Bomer was completely wasted too.

Can someone explain this to me?
How did John become a ghost if he had been shot outside the hotel?

update: oh wait i got it.
It's the Devil's night.

John was the worst part of the series. His family is a close second.

He and his stupid Leon-inpired haircut needed to be axed earlier.

I watched a few episodes of Hotel last year, about 3 episodes i think. I did like it, but nothing more than that. I kept hoping for more....scary things i guess. How is the rest of that season?

Finally caught the end. A little happy but I enjoyed the way the closed most stories. Liz's death scene was awesome.

After some reflection ...

Interesting that the last 3 seasons end especially on a happy-ish ending. Good finale though. Most of the time these Ryan Murphy shows start strong, slag at the middle, and end strong but Hotel was so.........middling. It didn't excite me anymore and make me want to watch it straight away from the DVR.

Asylum > Murder House > Freak Show > Coven > Hotel

Like Coven, this season was too much camp, not enough macabre. Could've used more stuff like the scene in the school. The way everyone acted in Hotel was just one sassy line of "I'm the new Supreme!" from being on Scream Queens.

The one thing about this season was that I didn't feel like the start was especially strong (but I agree in general).

The show seems to me in desperate need of an editor. There's a lot of content -- but as usual, I feel like the show could stand to be a lot more sharply focused.

I'm thinking next season might be on a cruise ship.

That could be really cool, as long as they don't do ghosts again.

The season's quality is consistent throughout, so if you felt a certain way about the first 3 episodes, you'll most likely feel the same way about the other episodes.

FX doesn't like to reign in their star creators, but I agree.

HHmmmm om. Well I should ddefinitely finish it then.

As for Coven, I am surprised people don't place it last or second to last. I watched two episodes and just couldn't get into it. Maybe I need to give it another chance.

The characters' crazy personalities are Coven's main source of appeal, and that stuff doesn't get great until midway through the season.

I still can't believe people like Asylum better than Murder House. My head just won't wrap around it.

Hotel's finale was better than expected, but still nothing to write home about. I'm glad it's over, but will surely end up watching Coven sometime, and watching Season 6 in the hope that it will get better.

1>3>2>4>............5.

Soft core porn isn't horror.
It's whore, lulz

Coven felt a bit anticlimactic. But the ridiculousness of it made it interesting. The 2nd time that witch was burned left me laughing for minutes. Basically this was a prequel and toned down spirit of scream queens.

Really only season 1 felt great to me.

Okay - finally caught up with this season after losing a little bit of interest midway through. It actually became very strong around episode eight or so (around the point that The Countess was getting married and Valentino and Natacha came into the picture). Liz becoming the anchor of the second half really helped with things. I think she should have been like that from the beginning and taken away less of the focus away from John. Knowing less about John would have helped with him as a character and ultimately with the reveal while also grounding the hotel and providing exposition through Liz's conversations at her bar and at the front desk. If they had stayed as consistent as they were at the latter half of the season as they were with the first, this could have really been a challenger for one of the best seasons. Last two episodes were aces. Denis O'Hare and Gaga really made the most with their roles by then.

Asylum > Hotel pt. II > Murder House > Coven > Hotel pt. I > Freak Show

At one point I had written a big post about my feelings on this season (and then lost it due to a computer problem called "user error"). The most recent point reminds me of one of the things I had mentioned in that post and bears to actually see the light of day:

Denis O'Hare absolutely nailed it this season. He's been fine in previous seasons, but most of the roles I can remember have been kind of one-note characters. Aside from the obvious physical aspect to playing Liz, I felt like she was a character with a bit more meat to her -- he definitely stole the show for me this season.

O'Hare's was the most memorable, most rounded and best acted character in the show. I agree. He deserves recognition, not Gaga.
I'm pretty sure he will definitely get the Emmy nomination. Has he ever won before yet? I think he could if he sent the final episode for consideration or the one where Liz meets her son.

Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will return for season 6.

I'm simultaneously happy that she'll be back and furious that shes not dedicating an entire year to musical slayage
though if this next era flops a steady job to fall back on is always nice

This gives her time to try and get it right on the music front.

She said "she doesn't know when," which tells me she's skipping season 6 and returning season 7.

With the benefit of distance, I want to say O'Hare's Liz is probably the best character and performance across all seasons. I don't mind that Gaga got recognized for her unexpectedly great turn as The Countess, but O'Hare absolutely killed it. He embodied a truly distinctive and possibly classic character who will likely impress me all over again if I rewatch Hotel a decade from now. Her attitude, aesthetic, relationships, backstory, and arc combine into something exceptional.

Wes Bentley even getting nominated for anything is tragic. He was literally the worst actor this season in my opinion.

Crossing my fingers for him to get some well-deserved recognition.

No, that prize goes to his character's wife. She's so wooden, especially in the early episodes.

Season 1 was great. Season 2 was really good but had a lot of unresolved story. Season 3 was entertaining but stupid and soulless. Hoping 4 and 5 will be better.
