Had my first truly memorable sequence in this game:

In Venice,
when you have to escort the boat through the ravine, assassinating chumps as you do it was so awesome :D

Really <3ing this game so far.

Alright, this is awesome. But I am wondering something weird...what the hell is with the map? It seems to drop the framerate a ton for some reason, is it the fact that I installed the game?

This is like the most improved sequel of all time. OF ALL TIME.

I was just going to ask this. The actual game itself runs just fine, but the map seems to run at like 10fps or something.

Seems pretty weird to me. I've got it installed too btw.

I think I broke my game. The start screen does not load anymore. So, got to Venice, did the first mission, and along the way, saw a glyph. Scanned it but desynchronized at the same time...and now it's not working?

edit: reloading fixed it

Was incredible. It's like they learned the importance of linear mission design.

Eat your heart out, open world tardbabies--you know who you are. Linearity trumps all. Maybe it's a good thing to balance the two. You can have your open world if I can have my tight, linear design within that world. Asscrud 1 utterly failed there and asscrud 2 has it down soooo well.

Singapore, not Shangai.

EDIT: BTW yeah, :lol the fucking PAUSE MENU runs at like 10FPS! Fucking ridiculous! :lol

Couple questions...

1) I finished the game and am missing one weapon from my collection... a hammer (second from the top on the rack). None of the armorers in the towns seem to have anything for sale. Suggestions? Do you get a hammer for competing with the training guy?

2) Any tips/suggestions for the sweeper achievement? Looking for areas where you did it and possible strategy. I killed a guard with a spear, equipped it, gathered up a bunch of enemies, then it disappeared and was replaced by a regular sword. Is there a time limit on using a picked up weapon? :(

Got all my treasure chests, so all that's left now is finding 69 feathers, and getting those last 3 achievements (Sweeper, In Memory of Petruccio, Show Your Colors), then the game should be 100%, minus things like the beat up quest, races, assassination missions which are optional side quests.

So excited. I think it's waiting for me at home as I type. If it's even half as good as people suggest, probably not going to get a lot of sleep tonight.

Shitty timing right before Thanksgiving, though. My 360 doesn't travel on a plane with me, for obvious reasons. Will just have to get a lot of gaming in over the next few days.

Does the game get better drastically as the game progresses? I only finished the first sequence yesterday and it felt very similar to AC1 to me (except for the storytelling structure of course). The actual plot is only starting to ramp up right now so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.

Yes it does. I'm 8 hours in and the game is still dealing out new stuff to do. Once I got to the whole rebuild a town metagame I was hooked.

So, are the voices supposed to sound like you're underwater in the beginning? cause I'm worrying about my sound setup because I can hear characters a little bit but most of the time it's like talking underwater and is barely audible? Playing on 360.

Thankfully I don't have to eat crow, I liked the first game but

okay... this is like... dear diary shit right here, but... I might... I might be with jett. I'm not ready to make any GOTY claims at the moment because I'm not even halfway through the game, but so far I'm so shockingly impressed that it might end up passing up Uncharted 2 as my favorite game this year. I think it has more to do with the fact that I expected so much out of Uncharted 2 and got it, but this game is like a true underdog's story and I like underdog stories. No claims yet, but I will say this--

Assassin's Creed II is giving Uncharted 2 a serious run for its money.

You need 50 feathers, and once you place them in the chest, Mario gives you the final hammer.

It's a little compressed sounding but perfectly audible. I think it's your setup.

Does this mean all the UC2 entries in the greatest games of all time thread will be substituted with AC2? :lol

FUCK! Why is this game so good?! I thought I had my personal GotY picked out, no question, with Uncharted 2. There's a sequel, I thought. Then I got my hands on Modern Warfare 2 and I said to myself, y'know, nomatter how good Uncharted 2 is, MW2 offers so much content it's easily my personal favorite.

Then this. This fucking game. It's the most improvement I have ever seen from one iteration of a game to another. I fucking despise AC1, but this is right on the heels of MW2 for my GotY :|

What a fucking month. And I haven't even opened L4D2. Fuck. Yes.

It's just, they went beyond simply addressing issues the first game had. They fixed stuff, they removed things that needed to be removed, and actually added a plethora of new things which, unlike the first game, they went ahead and got it right the first time. Like I literally cannot believe some of the locations I've been in; it's definitely not reduced to tons of endless streets and alleys and some countryside. They fixed everything, but went much, much further than I could have anticipated.

Pile on top of that some impeccable art direction, insane attention to detail, the armor/weapon system, currency, much improved textures over the first game, a wonderful soundtrack and a more engaging story and you have one of the greatest sequels of all time. Uncharted 2's awesome was completely expected and it may still edge out AC2 for my favorite game this year- AC2 will have to trump the
snowy mountain village right before Shambhala
to be a better game and will have to keep up the good storytelling and not fall flat at the end for me to consider it better, but if it keeps up what it's doing now, I don't know, Naughty God might have an Ubigod to deal with.

But even if not, they've finally made the Assassin's Creed game that we should have gotten to begin with. This is a promising franchise.

What's with the fake in-game achievements? Right after I got the Undertaker achievement (the first tomb) another one popped up that was styled similar to a 360 achievement but with a blue U instead. Said 20 points or something.

I'm just wondering what the purpose of these are, I can't find anything in the start menu about them or whatever.

I think that would be very hard to do. Buildings in the modern world are huge. Unless they went to somewhere like Paris, where the buildings aren't over a certain height, for the most part. Storywise (at least to me) it would make sense to have it be France-based

Yeah, I guess you're right, I didn't really think it through. As soon as the thought hit me, I had to post on gaf while I frothed at the mouth.

It's Ubisoft's Uplay thing, basically by completing in game tasks you unlock extra content - a premium theme, abillity to hold 5 extra throwing knives, an alternate costume & some exclusive level. Press triangle/Y at the main menu to access the Uplay screen.

It's up there, I wouldn't say better than UC2. But, AC2 has to be one of the best sequels I've ever played. I guess it helps that most of us went in with lower expectations than AC1.

This game just keeps getting better and better. I love chasing down those thieves and delivery guys; big money!

I enjoy the catacomb levels but I'm not sure why people like them more. I like the random nature ofthe city, and with the tools you have you can make things interesting. I always tell hookers to talk to random guards (150), proceed to throw change in that area(10-30), and then drug like 2-3 of them (175 per poison vial). Watching people get jacked up by axes and swords, but still trying to reach for change... priceless.

I really do hope you are right. I just still have a hard time rationalizing things like:
What the fuck would we do about guns? Would Desmond shoot people, or would he be magically able to dodge bullets? And the height of buildings would be kind of rough, unless it was set in very non-modern urban environments (if that even makes sense).

So I'm trying to decide if I should pick this up for the 360 or PS3. I have the old model 360 with no HDMI, so everything is of slightly lower fidelity simply due to the cable.

Now are the tearing/performance issues on PS3 enough to still warrant getting the 360 version over its counterpart?

press y on the main menu. its UPLAY

it's A-FUL

Damn at the positive responses for this game. I'm one of those people who truly hated AC1. I thought the game was broken in every level. I swore I wouldn't buy AC2, but now I may reconsider. :lol

I'd hold out on that for at least a few more days. Awful, just awful servers all around (I'm on 360). You can barely play any games online right now.

Why the hell is my brother just standing there in the misson "sibling rivalry"? Seriously, I cant get him to race....

EDIT: Definitely encountered a glitch in the 360 version it never triggered the race. he just stood there doing nothing I ran around for a good 15 minutes before I gave up and reloaded my save.

Wow, some of these characters need to lay off the Botox. And races still suck. The posters/notoriety thing is annoying.

But. The variety is great so far. I think Leonardo has a crush on me. And seeing Ezio knife two soldiers in the throat simultaneously. Well, yeah, this is pretty awesome stuff so far.

I prefer the linear maps too. That's how a Prince of Persia game should be as far as how you travel through the map (often stopping, looking around, giving you a chance to see the beauty of the environment and figure your path, and then make your way). Of course with a slightly faster pace and more action, but this is definitly better than the POP released last year.

Reading this thread for the past few days almost seemed like I was living a dream. Ubisoft actually delivering a far improved sequel. Who would've thought!

I'll be getting my copy soon so I'll see it for myself. Don't disappoint me GAF!

Wow, the first Venetian assassination is
exactly what I have been waiting for the entire game. Finally what felt like a measured assassination.
This game is really excellent.

Needs help, guys!

I'm at the part where Desmond is dreaming of being Altair. I'm chasing the person to assassinate when he/she goes into a guard tower. It's showing me that there is a ledge all the way at the top to observe from. However, I can't get up there.

Any suggestions? Many thanks!

I had the same problem. Just telling you the mechanics, not spoiling anything else.

The door will be closed, so get on the city-side wall of the wall-way. Then you will find a way to climb up halfway on the tower where you will get a small balcony with a door. Get on either of the side railings, jump onto the ledge on top (its in the middle and has a lantern hanging from it)... this may take you a while to get right, took me ages. After that should be simple enough to get all the way to the top. :D

Part of the reason i adored AC1 was because of the potential Ubi Soft introduced with the games mechanics, and from reading impressions here/reviews seems like they fulfilled what i hoped for.

Im facinated by history and civilisation, which added to my love of AC1. Waiting for AC2 is tearing me up.

The trick is to be in the middle with the ledge and the lantern directly above you. Hold down R1 + X wait for him to crouch, release X.

Apparently this is how you jump in place. Never have to use it before or after that part so it was annoying till I figured it out.
