Assassin's Creed Unity |OT| Liberté, égalité, parité

Digital code. I got the promo from Newegg, and they send you an email with a code that takes you to the geforce website, and then you can choose between AC Unity, FC4, and the Crew.

I did all that, uplay sent me an order confirmation but it has not shown up in my uplay account yet. I figure it will on release day?

I'll keep an open mind, but I think Kyd's mix of modern electronic and classic orchestral sound was a perfect fit for the series. The difference between AC1 and AC2 shows how versatile he can be. AC3's soundtrack was a tremendous disappointment to me when it first came out, but I did enjoy aspects of AC4's. However, it must be said that both aren't nearly as memorable as prior installments.

Kyd's work is still unmatched IMO. The Unity score is good in spots but none of it reaches the airy, almost ethereal heights of Kyd's best stuff from AC2. The style in Unity is different going for a more classical sound (mashed with some modern traditional score), but Kyd's acoustic/electronic/orchestral/vocal mix brought a lot of character and class to the games. Plus his melodies are way more memorable.

This game is obscenely blurry, what the fuck, from the screenshot thread:

The IQ in this game is so bad.

All fine detail is gone. Textures as a result look much worse then most 720p games.

What brand of petroleum jelly are they using for Anti Aliasing?

Hard to believe its a PS4 game, when this clearly looks like a PS3 game. Hell this looks worse then the AC games on last gen consoles.

If it looks this bad on PS4, I don't have high hopes for the PC version =( if not much effort has even gone into the PS4 version.

What on earth is Ubisoft smoking.

I'm pretty concerned about this game. AC may very well suffer from Star Trek Syndrome, where only the even-numbered mainline entries are any good.

Yeah. Looking at something like AC brotherhood and that games textures have a level of grit and grain. Cloth textures have a viable fabric to them for example that this game just doesnt have.

Everything here just looks unnaturally smooth and muddy.

Maybe that detail is there somewhere but is near imposable to see because of the Vaseline AA and 900p.

So i just loaded up watch dogs on PC and dropped it to 900p. still looks ok. blurry a bit but if they add some decent AA it should be fine.

If my pc wont cut it this time i guess PS4 isnt a bad option.

While I really love Kyd's work on the series with AC2 being one of my favorite soundtracks of all time, I think his style was starting to really run it's course when he left the series. I think it was the right move to move on to other composers for the series, regardless of whether it was Kyd's choice or Ubisofts. I think all of the soundtracks are really quite fantastic in their own way. The one thing I didn't like about Kyd's work was how similar it sounded from game to game. AC through his work on Revelations all sounded very similar, but AC3, AC4, and Unity all have a very different sound that I think fits their setting quite well.

I think most people will agree with you but I like Unity's soundtrack.

The game isn't as bad as that screenshot above though, especially indoors where it looks sharper and more contrasty than outdoors.

I was just watching a stream. You need to be connected to the Internet to open some chests?

To be fair this isn't really new. It was part of Black Flag too (social chests).

Granted though the loot in Unity seems to be more important so it's a bit of a bigger deal.

Fantastic title, made me laugh.

It also made something dawn on me. Ubisoft is a French company. France is a nation of socialists. Socialists do their utmost to drag everyone down to the same level (they think they are building people up through common centralized ownership and economic and social uniformity but they effectively end up dragging everyone down).

Platform parity would be amenable to a socialist.

So the screenshot above is compressed as fuark?

Based on the HUD, I'd say probably. Some materials don't translate well to screens though, there's lots of marble and stuff that is very reflective and looks great in person but in screens you lose effect and it looks dull.

Do you have the game or are you just basing it on screenshots?

Check out this video at the highest quality setting and tell me it looks like buttcheeks.

Ah ok...I'm so conflicted on whether to get it or not @_@

From what I've heard it's at least the best since Kyd left... I also think it's important to see the context the music is played in to get a better sense of how effective it is.

Slight spoilers
The song that plays in the beginning of the game when Arno is a child is really lovely. I don't know the name of it sorry.

You think my two SLI GTX 460 2GB can handle this? Or does SLI not work well with games like this?

Nvidia's current profile for the game is practically useless -- no AA bits, no SLI bits, no... well, anything. Black Flag's should work to some extent, though, given that Unity uses its own branch of AnvilNext.

I'm almost more excited to see how well my computer runs this than I am playing it. Of course I'm looking forward to playing it as well. I'm just hoping UPlay unlocks it at midnight EST.

Anyone who got the game through Nvidia's promo has the game in their library yet? I have no idea how uplay works, will it show up at release and/or preload? As of right now I have the order confirmation but not the actual game :/

You played it? Or do you base your opinion on (compressed) screens? Because the hyperbole is strong in this one.

I'm near the end of the game and apart from some typical rough edges (pop in, weird ass npc's) I loved the graphics. Indoors it's terrific, outdoors Paris has the detail and grandeur it needs (some viewpoints are awesome). The graphics have a kind of painting like quality to them. Soft lightning, huey in the background, the colors. A truly beautiful game, which is way better then any AC could achieve on ps3.

I'm in the same boat as you, I believe that it will show up at midnight day of release (Uplay doesn't currently do preloading).

I'm really curious how the bug situation will be with this release. Black Flag was pretty decent on next-gen, but that one had the benefit of the previous gen versions having been out for a year already. This is a completely fresh release, a la AC3!

I've recommended several people to get this game somewhere in February, when hopefully most bugs will be ironed out, but who knows it will be fine. ;)

I worked really hard in getting issue tracking in this weekend along with the feature tracking into www.techingames.net before the next Assassin's Creed release ... I still need to pretty it up (as I need to do various other bits), but I managed it and its live. Hope it is of benefit to someone. I'll get Unity myself, so I'll do my best.

Not sure if this has been posted, you can buy XB1 Assassin Creed (Unity + Black Flag) digital code for less than $45 from ebay. A lot of people that are buying AC XB1 bundle are selling the codes.

Ebay link

Know I am undecided If I should buy it on XB1 or PS4, given those who played on PS4 are reporting of clipping and pop-ins. This may be worse on XB1, I guess?

Fake. Forcing a pre-load isn't possible because it's dependent on an app-level release state change, plus it's not possible for publishers to limit the ability to pre-load to certain regions*, which is why everybody else has reported the "app not released" error.

* The ReleaseStateOverride flag may allow for this, but I've never seen it done before and even if it were the case here, the change would be reflected in the registry.
