I don't think the commo rose was confirmed for consoles, but they're considering it.

Honestly, DICE has been pretty damned good with community feedback for BF3. If that means anything, good chance it will be in for consoles.

DICE has been excellent with community feedback

What are Battle Rifles? I mean, what classifies them as Battle Rifles?

I might make a graphic of all the kits and specialisations.

Rifles with large caliber bullets, not something like those sissy .223.
*has a mini 14*
A battle rifle is a military service rifle that fires a full power rifle cartridge, such as 7.62x51mm NATO. While the designation of battle rifle is usually given to post-World War II select fire infantry rifles such as the H&K G3, the FN FAL or the M14,[1] this term can also apply to older military bolt-action or semi-automatic rifles such as the Mosin-Nagant, Mauser 98k, Lee-Enfield or the M1 Garand.

Really hope it's dynamic based on the supports that are destroyed. Red Faction: Guerrilla's tower collapses were epic.
Agreed but we're dreaming... :p

Imagine if you put all the C4 charges on one side in a certain area to make it fall a certain way to temporarily block a path or land on a tank, etc. Now THAT would be a fucking BF moment!

They have been excellent with community feedback? They still haven't shown the 360 version FFS.
They have been answering a ton of twitter questions that most devs would normally ignore. DICE has also made changes to the game based on community feedback. Squad spawning and 3D spotting have been changed due to feedback. The commorose has been added based on the fans screaming for it. M16A3 and A4. They are doing a great job so far and I hope DICE keeps up this level of community interaction when the game is released.

I am not worried about the 360 version at all. BC1, BC2 and 1943 all turned out great on 360, no reason to think BF3 would be any different.

Just because they didn't show 360 footage negates how well they took our feedback from the alpha? Apples and oranges

Well said, and Demize has stated on twitter that the reason for the lack of 360 footage is a marketing strategy. He said the 360 version is coming along "wonderfully".

@Demize99 How is the 360 version coming along? Any news would be greatly appreciated.

@Crimson_Engage Wonderfully. Don't mistake a marketing strategy for a platform statement.

Not sure how to link to a tweet, so there's that ^

By the way, *jumping + throwing object = more reach* confirmed?

Or actually aiming at an angle. The alpha was pretty horrible at that. They all felt like small lobs and some...for whatever reason would land right at your feet.

Regarding worries that jets are too slow/can be easily shot down by choppers:

Only the bigger maps like this get jet fighters though, and they were one of the main draws at the Gamescom preview. Thanks to a misspent youth playing F-15 Strike Eagle and other MicroProse flight sims we took to the controls instantly. As a result we were happily circling around the map shooting down helicopters like flies and prompting ourselves to ‘do a barrel roll’ every time someone locked onto us with their own missiles (at the time we weren’t clear who this was, but we were later informed it was probably engineers with a surface-to-air missile launcher).

YMMV

So do all choppers (or air vehicles in general) come with flares or is that where the IR flares specialization comes into play? I ask because it doesn't seem like choppers would last long on Caspian Border without some type of defense mechanism.

I don't care about realism when it comes to that, one hit kills on the body are STUPID because they're so easy to land. So it's good they are avoiding that.

I played around with an ACOG on the semi-automatic sniper rifles in the alpha and they were alright, but the park had either too short line of sight or too exposed areas for it to be more effective than an assault rifle or LMG.

I have a feeling that a vast majority of my time with the recon kit will be using the semi-auto rifles with no optics.

if anybody is interested hop on #pcgaming @ irc.synirc.net

I know it's the Alpha, and that the 590 clearly has driver issues, but this may be helpful to some people:

It doesn't, they actually tweeted (people from dice) saying that graph is detrimental. Of course it would be nice to know, but it's way too early and there will still be a beta. I wouldn't make any decisions off of that. The only you can take from it, which has been confirmed by Dice people is that quad > dual cores.

So it's sort of how COD is more closely tied to the X-Box brand. I guess EA want console BF3 to be more associated with the Playstation brand.

Ah ok, gotcha. I agree, I wouldn't make any decisions based on it, but I suppose if your card is on that list and is running the game fairly well, it should do in the final version. I understand the alpha had a lot of stuff turned off, but I assume that's all stuff that you can turn off manually anyway. And, of course, with more people comes problems, but that also depends on the context.

either that or they figure the 360 version will sell well regardless so why waste any marketing on it.

Eurgh!...

I don't get the whole sniper hate...instead of nerfing snipers (The guns) they should re-design the recon class itself so it has a more integral role in squad based stuff...

Things like spotting only makes things worse (stay miles away from objective)...as to did the mortar strike in BC2...giving recon C4 and motion sensors was a good step in the right direction though I feel and more could be done.

Assault recons are great. One of the most helpful kits in a squad. Classic "snipers" can suck my...

Good. I think snipers are great as a support role, but it looks like DICE is taking the right steps to discourage a team from having too many.
I don't think it' aimed at the Recon class in general, it's simply about addressing balance issues regarding quickscoping at close range. The one hit kills from bolt action rifles in vanilla BFBC2 were only ever at close range anyway, so there are no changes for longer distance sniping.

The problem is that when you consider a recon quickscoping a bolt-action at close range vs a someone carrying a shotgun: they are both one hit kills at point blank range... but if you get a bit further out, the bolt-action rifle remains a one hit kill, while the shotgun firing buckshot is suddenly (due to dispersal) no longer a one hit kill. Then you look at medium to long range and the shotgun is practically useless... but that same bolt-action rifle is still incredibly effective.

By removing one hit body kills from bolt-actions entirely, it means that somebody quickscoping at close range has to hit with the bolt-action shot and then follow up with a successful pistol shot. That gives the advantage back to the shotgun at close range, which (from a balance perspective) is how it should be. Shotguns should trump everything at close range (including bolt-actions) to make up for their massive deficiencies at all other ranges.

Does anybody know why they're offering both the M320 and M26 MASS in BF3? Given that buckshot is an option for the M320, and that a frag round is an option for the M26 MASS, it seems like they overlap almost completely and are redundant.

I'm taking the recon news kind of hard. At any sort of range, not having one hit kills is a bit too much. The guy isn't going to stand around, waiting for you to take another shot. There should be a balancing effect, where if you get the hit from a long distance, it rewards you with a kill.

Personally, I think they've killed recon if no changes are made.

i just pray that thousands of other snipers share your opinion as well. it will be nice seeing a lot less of that class ingame.

Yeah the cool thing about being a sniper is getting that one hit kill.

Kinda sad if that's impossible. I think that's bad game design, even if it does please a lot of people.

Battlefield has some of the only maps big enough that recon is actually a decent and necessary class. One sniper can hold off an infantry advance if he's got a good enough position. Take it away, and the combat becomes a lot more close quarters, and centered around the capture points/MCOM's. This is either a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on your perspective.

I don't think they should have a mortar strike like in BC2, but taking away their only real function makes them useless. They might as well scrap the class altogether.

The only use for the class I can think of now, is picking off idiots that are sprinting across open terrain. One hit kills don't matter there, since the person has nowhere to hide.

Having played the alpha, and used all the guns in it, I see no reason why someone would want to snipe now instead of using something like the G13 as an assault class. It has single fire, and it's extremely accurate with low recoil. Put a red dot on it, and you can do much better than a sniper at medium to short range.
