Got about 5 minutes into the first episode before bailing. Not in the mood for some super depressing truth at the moment.
I watched that video near muted earlier, and it hurt. I tried watching it again with sound, clicked somewhere half-way through and I started having a panic attack.
This is like one of those things that becomes more horrible every time I remember that it wasn't just some nightmare I dreamed up.
I mean, like, even if the message is good, the way it's conveyed destroys any chance of it getting through.

Beakman has actually been doing live performances since the show has ended. There's been Beakman live as recent as 2014. I think his last TV assistant Phoebe's also been playing the assistant till as recent as 2011 or something. So Beakman's definitely not out of touch with performing science shows.

basically my thoughts after watching a few episodes.
the show basically feels like bill nye standing on the stage and masturbating.
everything comes off very very preachy which will drive off anyone that could actually benefit from the information presented in the show, meanwhile in general it tends to be so matter of a fact with the information that it doesn't even feel very good as an educational program for people who agree with the subjects as there really isn't any compelling other information presented it feels mostly there to drive home the initial point without any flexibility about why people might think these things anyways. comes off a big circle jerk making fun of people who don't see things the same way when the other people get involved (plus yay guest appearances that add nothing)
I want to note I agree with most of the stuff in the first few episodes stance wise, just don't think it does a good job of educating people at all. I was watching the old bill nye episodes and really the new show just seems to be missing most of the fun he was having.

I tried making it through the first episode. I almost threw my back out from the constant cringe inducting "comedy". Bailed after he pulled out the beakers to the "oooohh's and aaaaahh's. This show is not good.

Do we know who had overall creative control here? Was it Bill NYE or Netflix, because either or both of them really need to learn from this show, because if anything it has seemingly seemed to make science even less cool to people than it already is.

I wonder if Netflix feels like their shows need to crank it up a notch to separate themselves from network TV. I feel like the Mythbusters spinoff was similar - a great show for kids, but everyone in the cast casually swears regularly for no reason. It's not near as offensive as the sex junk stuff, but unnecessary in my opinion.
That was worse than I could have possibly imagined.

Well on the bright side me disliking the first episode got me to go back and watch some old Science Guy episodes and maybe this is nostalgia talking but that's still a good-ass TV show

I enjoy the show, but it feels a bit odd at times. Transitions are weird, the flow isn't great. They need to do it in the style of his old show with new topics, and not live.
Which is odd, because his live stage show is great. I saw him a year or two back.

Me, I guess. I don't get all the hate. I've got no nostalgia for the old Bill Nye show because I never watched it, maybe that makes the difference.
I love Bill Nye but yeah, this show is bad. I've cringed my way to Ep5 and I can't take no more.
I feel he still wants it to be a kids show, but he is trying to make it work with adults. Some of the foul language caught me off guard. His quirky jokes and mannerisms doesn't work with a live crowd. His demonstrations aren't captivating. The transition from one segment to another is cumbersome; I seriously always laugh when he just ups and walks away from a guest lol.
The best parts is when he is simply talking about the science like a regular human being haha. Very disappointed in the show.

This one's still a mystery to me. Even though I've zero reverence for the host or his show from years past (never had seen an episode as someone not from the states), I can't say I got anything of value out of this. Definitely one of the worst pieces of Netflix original content I've had the privilege of wasting my time on.

Live audience is fine, but the guy operating the "laugh/oooh/aaah now" signs should be taken out back and shot, though.

I feel like some people vastly over estimate the knowledge the general public retains of basic science.
Don't they do test screenings and the like? I can't imagine the feedback was positive.
I actually enjoy the show. The bit that keeps getting linked was pretty damn cringe worthy, but the episode outside of that dance bit was interesting i'd argue.

I assumed the point of the show was Nye using the nostalgic elements of his old show to convey more complex scientific and political ideas to his aged audience and get them motivated into scientific fields and scientific related political activism.

Yeah this makes me scratch my head, too.
I appreciate the thought, but the bare minimum of what I expect from a dirty rap is that it should at least be offensive to as many people as possible.
I fully admit that I'm desperate for a new torchbearer after Nicki Minaj took her career in a more commercial direction, but Rachel Bloom isn't it.
