Five years in development will do that to any triple-A game.
Around $100M was spent on Infinite's production and as much as another $100 will be spent on marketing.
I'll be honest, I didn't do any basic calculation to validate the 1.6 mil claim, not even in my head. For some reason I just thought it was an educated guess.Oh come on. He totally made up that number. They need to sell MUCH more than that to turn a profit. Basic math show that number doesn't make any sense.
4 million
So that budget would be really dumb and hopefully this projection is pretty far off.
I think it was pretty obvious. Shit's just too expensive now and it's accelerating the inevitable crash. I've never seen an industry that was so suicidal before.
I wonder how much the first one cost to make/market. I'm guessing it's not even comparable.
"Freedom Force was $2 million; System Shock 2 was $600K, it was nothing. BioShock, I think it's been published, was $15 million," Levine said. When we asked how much, on that scale, his new project would cost, Levine teased, "It's more than System Shock 2."
Maybe they will port it to next gen consoles as well. That's the only way to make sense of this movement.
And developers like CD Prokekt can develop high quality games with a quarter of that budget.
1.6Mil+
The game should do 6m total sales. I still don't think that will be enough for them to break even. You'd think they would learn after MP 3.
Bioshock isn't that big of a name
They should be happy if they break even. I just can't see this selling 5 million+ copies at full price
This. It's like publishers want another industry crash. The way costs have ballooned over these past few years are absolutely mind boggling.
5 or 6 million sales just to break even? this industry is fucked
And developers like CD Prokekt can develop high quality games with a quarter of that budget.

I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make here.

How come Gears 1 just cost 10 million to make?
Install base of PS3+X360 is above 150 million. Publishers always aim high at the end of the console cycle.
"System Shock 2 was $600K"
And I bet it Infinite won't touch it quality wise.
This and season passesas much as another $100 will be spent on marketing
Fuck them, no sale. Glad I didn't make an impulse buy when that gmg deal was posted earlier with the 3 games.
3.3 million to break even at $60. No DLC included, of course.
Uh, is this your first time stepping outside of a game news site? The New York Times cites unnamed sources. Good stuff.
they will easily sell around 3 million so its not a bad situation at all
With shit animation. ;-)And developers like CD Prokekt can develop high quality games with a quarter of that budget.
$100 million only for a single player, probably an inflated number, hope the game is as good as the first one, at least.
1.6Mil+
that would make them little over half what they've spent, the publisher gets nowhere near the full 60
