Gun game is pushing me from skipping this to probably picking it up after all. Glad they're putting in some new modes. The main thing that was turning me off was CoD fatigue of the same old multiplayer modes for the 4th time in as many years, seeemd like they was no point (especially since the game was looking so similar to MW2). Also I just enjoy gun games CS.

Actually, the whole thing including COD points sounds a lot like what Reach is doing.

yeah sounds like they took a few pages from reach with the theater mode cod points etc :lol

I made a summary as it went on so people can read it in point form, taken from the live streams:

- 3 pillars of Black Ops are Compete, Customize, and Create.

- COD unlocking system is new, it now uses a currency of "points". You earn them as you play.

- Contracts are time limited challenges that you purchase with COD Points (CP). There are three categories -- Mercenaries, Operations, Specialist. Each is attached to certain play styles and in-game achievements. The harder the contract the better the reward.

- There will also be gambling in COD. Wager Match - you ante up and put your COD Points on the line and wager on matches. The top three players split the pot.

- Four brand new game modes -- separate from your standard rank progression in multiplayer competitive modes and they are the following:

Gun Game - A series of progressive weapons, from pistol to shotgun to sniper rifle, granted to the player after kills. Like in the good old days of counter strike.

One in the Chamber - everyone just has a pistol with one bullet and three lives.

Sticks and Stones - you're equipped with a Crossbow and Throwing knife and Tomahawk.

Sharp Shooter - all players start with the same randomly selected weapon, which cycles. So everyone has the same weapon at the same time.

- There will be something called Combat Training against bots, it will have its own progression system different from the actual multiplayer. This mode was introduced because there are a lot of people who don't take the game online. They say this is a large amount of the COD population. For the first time in COD you can multiplayer...by yourself....or with friends to test maps, weapons, and practice tactics. All in this mode.

- Your character model will show up on the menu so you can see how customization of your dude looks. People will know your perk selection at a glance because it will affect how you look.

- All tactical weapons on the left bumper/trigger and lethal things on the right.

- Equipment includes motion sensors, jammers, and so on.

- Another new change is a batch of special weapons that players will get in Care Packages -- including the Death machine (mini-gun) and Grim Reaper ("nasty" grenade launcher).

- Other killstreak rewards: Napalm Strike, Gunship, Mortar Team, the Radio Controlled Car, SAM Turret (it takes down a chopper).

- On customization, players have a special attachment to their weapons -- so they can place clan tags, decals and more on their weapons. Differently painted guns with custom targeting reticules and decals on everything were shown in the video. Flamethrowers, sniper rifles, shotguns... everything can be customized with stuff you've earned and unlocked. There's an emblem editor as well - apparently has a lot of options like layering, rotating, scaling, etc...

- Theater Mode was demoed. Switch the player between any players perspective -- first or third person -- or free cam to move within a 3D space.

Agreed.

It seems they are just trying to copy what Reach is doing in a lot of ways.

And it's over, and no concrete info on zombies... So sad. :(

Personally, these new modes don't even make a dent in my choice to get this or not. I played CoD4 Team Deathmatch 85% of the time for 2 years. I just want to hear about balance, and what they're doing to NOT become MW2, preferably from someone who really knows their CoD. Hope we get some reports like that.

Sounds like noob tube for all intents and purposes is gone other than that care package method. The "nasty" part doesn't exactly ease my concern though, might be just a super noob tube.

Even if they iron out some of the old issues new one's will come out within the first few weeks of release. You'll just have to hope that they'll actually take care of those, as opposed to the unbalanced, yet somehow fun, mess that was/is MW2.

I really feel like they will be missing an opportunity if they don't do a beta on/around Halo: Reach's launch.

that would be the worst time to do it, actually.

I would listen to you if you knew what you were talking about. How about we wait until we actually see matches being played, mmkay?

Probably but the game will sell regardless.

I love how CoD is stealing all of these features from a Halo game that isn't even out yet.

So which of these streaks completely unbalances the game?

It's a good idea, just have to see if they can implement it as well as Bungie is.

Not if they ran the beta straight into release day. It would cut into Halo sales and keep people distracted.

I have to admit some of that stuff actually has me back interested in the game....then I see there's no Beta? After the shitshow that was MW2 for a few months, I may hold off a bit to see how broken/not broken it is at launch now. Hmm.
