For fucks sake Activision.

For. Fucks. Sake.

It's not the setting that makes people stop playing COD ... it's the lack of innovation. We've had the same engine since BO2, the same specialist bullshit since BO3 and the same scorestreak loadout since MW2.

Again, not the setting ... but the lack of innovation or "new" stuff is slowly killing this franchise.

I hope Sledgehammer Games has something cool up their sleeve.

Not only I feel thats not true, I'll throw in the fact that most of the campaigns suck due the heavy focus on the MP, that keep a big portion of potential gamers away.

Yep, multiplayer should be the tacked on thing, not the singleplayer. Keeps me away from half the games out there.

Will buy this if it has a good SP campaign with a good story. Hope it's not again just a collection of some WW2 events like in the old CoDs.

I actually thought Black Ops 2 had a high TTK until I fixed my connection, so not sure what to think about BO1 because I didn't play that one much. Felt like it took a long time to kill someone when I played it at a friend's house (could have been the connection, bad hit boxes, etc).

CoD4 was probably the sweet spot as far as that goes. Shooting felt so good yet it didn't feel frustrating to get shot like in Ghosts.

I don't care about innovation, I care about good games. I would argue that COD is dying because they keep trying to woo players with new gimmicks instead of just releasing a solid game like they did with Modern Warfare. It's like they've completely lost sight of what made COD the juggernaut it is.

I might be in the minority but I would gladly play "the CS of consoles" for the next few years if someone bothered to release a game that qualifies.

Edit: I'm aware that MW had some pretty considerable innovations, but I doubt that it was a massive success because it had create a class and kill streaks. I would imagine it has way more to do with being such a well made and amazingly fun game to play.

Yawn. Happy to see i'm not the only one who was around back then and played the crap out of BF 1942 - WaW. I've been sick to death of "early war" FPSs since 2008. Still not over it.

Why cant more AAA devs just think outside the box and go someplace "timeless" like an alternate reality where aspects of what makes an "early war" shooter enticing could be combined with what makes a futuristic shooter fun? I feel like i'm simply bored with more of the same regardless of era. Though if i had to pick... present day or future over the past any day.

And i was really looking forward to Advance Warfare 2. Could have been great if they just cleaned it up and made the online experience lag free.

What are the chances World at War is remastered and bundled like MW1 was last year?

Very slim?

Bundling remasters won't and isn't going to become a trend. Modern Warfare is the most requested CoD game for a revisit, bundled with the one of the least inspiring and lowest performing CoD games in over a decade. Last year was a very obvious and very cyncial ploy to help drive numbers for Infinite Warfare, and that's only become more obvious as time has gone on.

I imagine Activision will hold significantly more confidence in COD: WWII and I'd wager that confidence will play out when pre-orders open. Tying a remaster to this years game to help stimulate sales won't be necessary.

While MWR did help sales of IW, I think population showings of MWR (the rough estimates we have), did seemingly show that while at first it may have helped. IW seems to be selling well enough on it's own while the population of MWR hasn't really changed all that much.

I'd also say that why would you remaster a World War II game... to bundle with a World War II game?

Like playing IW and MWR was cool because I was getting both a Future game and a Modern game but what would compel me to want to pay for a higher version of WW2 that just nets me a remaster of a second WW2 game?

Yeah, hopefully its like MWR.

Yup. Plus, the multiplayer will likely play like any other in the series. Shouldn't even be an problem to include women.
It wss pretty sad around here, on GAF, when I admonished DICE for not letting you play as a woman in Battlefield 1 multiplayer and people were complaining that it wasn't historically accurate or that DICE shouldn't need to add women or other typical misogynist crap like that.

Which is weird, because the single player campaign has a woman as a the protagonist and the player character; and yet you can't play as her or her faction in multiplayer.

They don't want you playing the same game for years though. They want you to buy the new one every year, which is why they need to invent new gimmicks all the time.

I doubt it. WWII game with a WWII game makes no sense.

But, imagine if at the end of the trailer, the first W in the title flips and becomes an M.

Boom Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.

I can dream.

The hands of the soldier holding the Thompson are all wrong.

Its kinda funny because every time that discussion comes up it swings the opposite direction from the last it seems like.

Nobody cared at BF3 or "it wasn't realistic"
DICE got destroyed by a majority for it around BF4
"Who cares?" and "it isn't historically accurate" for BF1 at the same time the discussion was about it not being a completely accurate WW1 game.

Its so ridiculous, its not like people are asking for a laser gun or some shit.
Why does MP need to be "canon" anyway?

Could get this for the single player, but the super fast, high on energy drink multiplayer probably won't fit WW2.

Been playing Call of Duty 2 again today after many years, nearing the end of the Russian campaign. Still pretty fun and not even that painful on Veteran so far except one of the panza tanks in the open square. I forgot how fast old CODs load up, you skip every logo with button presses, resume game, all in about 10 seconds. Fantastic. My negative so far, pea shooters. The little history lessons, good stuff.

No, now it's going to be tons of drop to your stomach shots while you camp for half the match.

And i love how they're promoting "boots on the ground multiplayer" as if this is some type of novelty. There's a ton of "boots on the ground" first person shooters already out there, more so than not.
Sounds great to me.

Im not sold on going back to WW2. On its own that setting just doesn't appeal to me. I dont have an affinity for its guns, or any one particular battle/moment. What does appeal to me is the idea of going back to WW2 to tell a story that you could not tell in any other setting. A story that captures the general feel of what it was like to either be a solider in the Pacific theater, or the European front. If they get the characterization right, and all of the story stuff right I'll start getting excited for it

Think he means being a post COD4&W@W campaign.
- super over the top. set piece, set piece, set piece. 'Ramirez do everything!"

The Schofield/Condrey combo is pretty solid so far. They were responsible for the first Dead Space and AW. The original DS to many is still the best because it's so reserved compared to where the series went afterwards. I think they could show a lot more respect o the period and history than some expect. Don't get me wrong, I expect and want it to still be a bit over the top, but I think they could balance that with with a more serious tone.

Oh I wasn't agreeing with that thought myself.

Im not worried for a COD campaign till we swing bact to Treyarch, they absolutely have to redeem themselves for BO3's(just listening to BO2's theme makes me angry about BO3).
and then worry about Infinity Ward abandoning IW's campaign.

Infinite Warfare was your cod then. The team put more time into that story then they did in the MP

And it's one of the worst games in the series.

Infinite Warfare had an amazing campaign. Only reason I'm even excited about a new Call of Duty in the first place. Bonus points for it being set in World War II.

RE:Women, I could see them offering a female model for snipers for a hypothetical USSR faction (Don't know if there's even gonna be an Eastern Front portion), but otherwise I totally get wanting to maintain verisimilitude by not anachronistically having female American or Nazi combatants.

I don't want to over-hype myself, but I really hope the Wednesday reveal will blow us away.

I would love it if the following wishlist becomes confirmed fact:

• The initial D-Day mission is Omaha Beach

• The game is utilizing a brand-new engine that will wow us with it's features and technical prowess

• Photorealistic visuals

• Michael Giacchino or even John Williams composing the soundtrack

• AAA, big-name voice talent for the Campaign

• All SP missions are legendary locations and that they are plentiful

• A ridiculous amount of time/research/implementation in regards to sound; atmosphere also

How could this be true? MW3 and BLOPS2 hit series high for sales and they did not have particularly good SP campaigns.
