This image is much more apt after their loss than before. Putting fucking Auburn in the national championship game.

Iowa in the Outback Bowl surprised me. Should be a great game.

(Which I won't watch because I'd be a nervous wreak the entire time.)

That's the "fun" of pulling for your school!

I'm a nervous wreck pretty much the entire game but I still wouldn't miss a second. Especially this year :)

War Damn Eagle!!!

Who's doing the pick 'em this year? I need to do one for my office - is Yahoo still the best?

I can't do it. Iowa is the only team I root for (once a Hawkeye...), and the only team whose games I won't watch. I stopped a few years ago. My health is better for it. :lol

I soak up the news/clips etc. after.

This video of Rice being offered the Liberty Bowl in the locker room is amazing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j5soT9Vlg8

I liked the affirmative response from at least one player after every sentence/fragment the bowl rep said.

rep:We're the 7th oldest bowl game
player: Okay Okay!
rep:On behalf of us and the city of Memphis...
player: Yes!
rep: you're invited to
player: uh huh!
rep: the liberty bowl
players:WOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

edit: and why so foggy? Did the rep barge in JUST as the players finished their showers or were they smoking cigars hidden away from view?

Every Bowl game has an asterisk by it. TTK is trying to tell us something, I KNOWS IT.

But more importantly, I'm actually not a bad picker of winners, I just don't know what the hell your stupid point spread bonus buuuuuuuuuulllshit is about.
Thanks guys, for missing a week or 2 randomly, you're the best http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oomCIXGzsR0

it's kind of hard for me to get into bowl games on an emotional level. like if UNC made a BCS bowl i'd be a wreck the entire game. but for the regular ass bowls, i just hope we don't put in an embarrassing and/or boring performance.

I AM TRULY GOING TO ENJOY THIS WONDERFUL BOWL SEASON BECAUSE I WON'T HAVE TO STRESS ABOUT OUR GAME.

Now excuse me while I go cry in the corner.

Wait, wait. Hold the fuck up.

There's a bowl sponsored by NORTHROP GRUMMAN?

That's it. Go home, corporate sponsorship. You're drunk.

That was fantastic! It makes me feel a little better about there being too many bowls.
Liberty Bowl is an OK bowl. Don't know why it always gets trashed. It at least has some good history behind it and has been around for 50-60 years.

Anyway excited UCF is in the BCS. Hasn't fully sunk in yet. Youngest school in history to make it and youngest football program too. Still trying to make it happen financially.

Bowl games can be rough financially. I know I would want to go (got an A&M buddy in GA, but can't make it down), but consider an alternate. Add up all you'd spend on tickets, airfare, and a "cheap" hotel, then use a fraction of that on a 60" TV and a catered meal for you and other UCF fans. I'd consider that a win overall.

From my experience players love bowl games. They get all kinds of free shit and basically go to events all week then play in a game it doesn't matter if they win or lose.

If nothing else, be happy for all the extra practices. Getting to a bowl is like earning an extra mini spring football. 3 or 4 extra weeks of practice with only one really needed for hardcore gameplanning means an extra 2 or 3 weeks of practice for all the guys that will return next season.

I wouldn't care if we were in the worst bowl on the entire list if it got our 3 QBs an extra month of practice.

Responding here instead of bumping the old thread. Thanks Limedust. Wouldn't have happened if we had Yahoo, etc.

Yep, recruiting doesn't mean much, what happened to nkemdiche this year?

Heisman trophy is a bit crap in that it is only ever given to running backs or quarterbacks.

That is the one thing I dislike about American football is that if you are not the running back or quarterback, you'll never get the recognition you deserve.

At the end of the day, the Heisman doesn't mean a ton. It's a popularity contest and rarely goes to the most deserving player. But yes, unless you're a running back or QB, you have almost no chance.

There are awards for different positions, but none of them carry the spotlight of the Heisman. But, those guys are typically rewarded if they make it to the pros and last in the league a lot longer than a running back, and even QB as well. Offensive linemen in the pros never won awards in college, but tend to last a long time in the league (comparatively) and make a lot of money. So they're laughing in the long run. And all those knee surgeries the running back will have in their 40's and 50's, not so much with the linemen.

Recruiting of course matters (tell Florida it doesn't), but at the end of the day you have to coach up kids. Also, some just won't pan out. But your odds of having a good team are much better with a team made of up of primarily 4-5 stars than a team made up of primarily 2-3 stars. But yeah at the end of the day, a true freshman 4-5 star can end up being dominated that first year because he's no longer the biggest or fastest player on the field. He's playing against guys that were where he's at, but they understand pad level and leverage better, they have more stamina and strength, and they just have more experience, etc. Nkemdiche could still be a great player in the future, but it's hard to live up to expectations when you're a true freshman. Running backs can sometimes do that, and QB's like Winston rarely live up to those expectations. He's an exception.

I'm seeing some Spartans recommending buying tickets from Stanford's athletic dept. Might try that if ticketmaster doesn't work.

Obligatory Yahoo et al.

edit: Can't get through on ticketmaster :(

The devoted Stanford fan base will no doubt have snapped them all up by now.

Falcons OC, Dirk Koetter, may be the new Boise State coach soon.

I am not really sure why someone would take that job right now. Seems like it is a good way to torpedo your career.

Also recruiting matters a shitton. Either get the best or get the best fit for what you are trying to do. If you don't your fucked. Dooley had one good year of recruiting (mainly by keeping a lot of Kiffin's recruits) but other than that did a pretty shitty job. Perfect example of how fucking terrible he was: Last year he was on the ESPNU show during signing day and said he didn't know much about Von Bell because "He hadn't see him play."

Off-topic, I know this isn't NFL-GAF, but I've never seen as much hurt butt as I've seen since that Beats with Dre featuring Colin Kaepernick commercial aired here in Seattle on Sunday. People are livid over it. My Facebook wall is filled with threats of boycotts, pictures of their Beats headphones in the trash and everything. It's pretty hilarious.

You'd think with all the rain here, they'd have evolved to have thicker skin, but I guess not.

Eh, people look for things to be angry at.

I liked it. Let people think they'll get torn to shreds if they show up wearing the wrong jersey, more of our fans and home games and more tickets for me.

Nebraska gets fucked for their bowl yet again.

Who wouldn't want to play the same opponent two years running?! Yawn. Already seeing the threads talking about Nebraska fanbase not showing up in the numbers everyone expects from us. At least we're not playing a team we played in the regular season like when we played Washington twice (in a bowl we'd already gone to the previous year).

Oh well, here's looking forward to another year of Bo Pelini football.
