So 2UPT?

As much as I love Civ, it's hard to get excited when I know the game won't reach its final form for a few years when I can pick up the complete edition. That's not a knock against the game, but just a testament to how much they add with expansions.

Yeah, it's like that for nearly all 4x games.

Civ 6 looks good, but Civ 7 could look like this:

I thought I was excited for it and then I saw the screens... Looks like mobile garbage. Civ 5 looks like a piece of art compared to this.

Civilization VI offers new ways to engage with your world: cities now physically expand across the map, active research in technology and culture unlocks new potential, and competing leaders will pursue their own agendas based on their historical traits as you race for one of five ways to achieve victory in the game.

But I liked Ghandi threatening war against me :(
I don't believe this.

Can't wait, loved Civ5.

Oh wow out of nowhere. Wasn't expecting this so soon. I have yet to play Beyond Earth. Was expecting that to receive an expansion or two first.

Screens look fine to me, I don't mind it looking a little colorful.

Hopefully the AI is a bit more interesting and better (without having to cheat) this time around but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.

Also did they censor classical art in the trailer? Why not just pick a different piece then? :p

Yea, those screens look disappointing but I'm gonna wait for proper screens showing normal game view. Those are zoomed in shots.

Was just about to comment on this. Man, when you cant even portray art in its original form... you know there's something wrong with society today.

Hope this is better than Civ 4 and 5 at release. Both of those ended up being great games, but really needed the expansions to get there.

This actually piked my interest in Beyond Earth now that I know it's "complete". I'll wait a few years until Civ VI is done releasing expansions before buying it.

It's funny how the trailer and art is all serious and adult, but the game itself looks colourful and friendly. Put me down as one of those people who think it's visually a step back from V.

Wow, sooner than I expected. I'd like to buy it day one, but man I'm not done playing Civ 5 yet, lol!!!!

But yeah, day fucking one.

EDIT: Woah, the trailer uses the Sunshine music!!!!!! :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one conflicted about the art style. It looks like your typical mobile game.

I just hope the actual mechanics are good. Civ V still looks pretty great, so if Civ VI mechanics aren't up to scratch, it's not as if its visuals will be able to save it either.

What was the point of Beyond Earth though? It seemed they didn't give it enough time in the oven, and are now on moving to Civ VI. Makes me worried what will happen to Civ VI.

Not feeling the visuals. Going for an even more cartoonish style is fair as scale was always an utter mess in Civ, but what they ended up with doesn't look much different from any uninspired mobile game. Might be a lot better in motion.

Hopefully they'll deliver on the diplomacy changes, that's always been my biggest issue with the series.

Ugh, this looks great. If only I wasn't dirt poor I'd be able to get a PC to play this. Civ V was just too much fun so I better find a way to get this.

Dissapointing visuals considering it's 6 years after civ5... It's clean and clear I will give them that, but the artstyle is really not appealing to me. Feels like they have merged revolutions and Civ PC.

Firaxis must grown big now to be able to support 3 games at the same time, unless of course they decided to stop making new major contents for Civ Beyond Earth.

Wow. That art style is... very IOS. Actually saddened to see Civilization embracing that look. A less mature direction for a very cerebral series.

Yup.

Civilization as a series has always felt to me like an elegant and sophisticated experience. The brandy by the fireplace of video games. This looks like a gaudy cartoon.

I know Civ Rev was a whimsical take on the series, and that's fine. But man. The first screenshots of your new game manage to look worse than the 6-year old previous title, and cheap like a money-suck, F2P mobile title.

VERY unbecoming for your flagship franchise.

While the news makes me excited considering civ's track record it's most likely not gonna become a truly great game before two expansions.

Maybe it's unfair, but I hate that mobile-ass artstyle. Doesn't fit at all with the "grandeur of civilization" theme these games have.

I'm assuming support for BE is pretty much dead. This is disappointing because the Rising Tide expansion really did help the game. Maybe we’ll see more expansions for it, but I kind of doubt that since CIV 6 is coming this year.

Can't wait for the requisite two expansions needed to fix the game.

But no seriously, I'm hoping for good things from this game.

all i ask from them is one thing...change the "warmonger" system...it's absurd that in a game that lasts for 2 thousand years my neighbours still consider me a bloodthirsty homicidal maniac because back in the stone age i had to attack a settlement to have access to iron...

but in general they should make possible to change tactics and plans during the game instead of forcing you to choose one and stick with it through thick and thin,so that if you wage war once all you can do is dominate and can't do anything diplomatic..or if you want to make a warrior tribe but don't have access to iron you are basically fucked because nobody is gonna make commerce with you because you attacked a city once...i'm sure that pretty much 90% of the civilization in history have made war at least once, and they still are able to have diplomatic relationships with other countries centuries later.

Limited and situation-specific unit stacking sounds like the best of both worlds in that regard.

Also, I consider it an indictment of US culture that they saw fit to censor "Liberty Leading the People" in the US version of the trailer :p

Yep, I was hoping for scale improvements too. It's a PC game. We're moving towards huge screen resolutions, so smaller units and buildings with better zooming would have been my guess for moving the series forward after 6 years.

A flat cartoon look with no atmospheric effects is a really odd choice. It's not like it can't be done well (see Settlers 7). At least the trees are now 3D I guess? Definitely not good enough to convince me to buy day one though. Civ V's realistic style just looks better imo. Will wait on the Gold edition.

I'm excited, especially if it really is as "complete" as Civ V + G&K + BNW.

Graphically, it looks more like a step sideways than a step forward. I definitely see the mobile comparisons. I wish it was more in the style of the cover art, more like an intricately detailed 3D map than a cartoon map you get at Disney World.

I'll admit my first thought is disappointment in the art direction, but reading the RPS article I'm getting more excited.
Especially the changes to AI; playing a role rather than a human(my biggest gripe with Civ 5).

Can't wait.

Also loving the art style, so much better than the abomination of blue and green that beyond earth was.

Also my big problem in civ v is being able to tell what resource is on what tile just by looking at it, hopefully this might make it easier to see.

Exciting! I've been searching for news when Civ6 will release the last few weeks. I do not like the art style though. Looks too cartoony and cheap. I was hoping for something more detailed like the new Anno 2205. I want to feel the greatness of my empire. That isn't possible with this low poly way too colorful cartoony style...

Wondering how the UI will fare. The 3D art is alright but doesn't inspire much in me. How they plan to top the art deco UI from 5 is beyond me. I wouldn't even mind if they kept it as it was.

Changes sound interesting. Always appreciate systems that force you to specialise and not just stick to one tactic (stay dead stacks of doom). I'm having images of a William Gibson type Sprawl by the end of game with the new expansive city system. Would like to see the art style in motion, bit of extra cartoony humour to match the absurdity of Ghandi nuking Shakka would be nice. Just hope the base games feels more complete than it's predecessors.

Is that Sean Bean as the narrator?
