Colin Was Right: Xbox's E3 Gambit (Feb 23)

No it was stated last e3 that they are introducing gaming without generations. Maybe you missed the press conference.

No snark required. Aaron Greenberg said "We think the future is without console generations." That isn't proof of their console strategy for the next ten years, because, honestly? Microsoft says a lot of things.

Microsoft isn't going to let Sony release the PlayStation 5 as the only actual generation 9 console, that would be market suicide.

It is proof as we have seen with their messaging around Scorpio. If it's not successful sure they will revert back to the old guard.

As of right now they are sticking to this plan. There won't be an Xbox 4 store and an Xbox one store for games. There will be an Xbox store.

In the PC market when you upgrade your desktop you just get faster hardware and compatibility with all your past software. And also forward compatibility. They are playing to this strength they helped create on the PC and bringing it to Xbox. We already see ecosystems like this on iOS and android as well. It's rather nice actually.

I can't wait to see what Colin and Greg say at E3 when it's 100% clear that the Scorpio is just a mid-gen refresh.

They will just say Microsoft is initially positioning it that way to not piss off Xbox One S owners and will say that exclusive Scorpio games are a couple years off.
