College Football 2017 Offseason: We're Not a Football School Anyway

Wondering if they'll live off that longer than Auburn has the Kick Six.

Probably. Sugar Bowl in 2015 was what, the biggest moment in their history? All that, for nothing. Lmfaaaaaooooooo fuck Ole Miss.

And then there were two
SEC coaches with wins against Saban @ Alabama, Sumlin and Malzahn. And one of them isn't seeing 2018. Ooweeee.

I'm now thinking of a photoshopping of the intro to Season 7 of Game of Thrones, featuring Saban (if you watch GOT, you know what I mean)

So.....was he calling the service for himself or for recruits?

the one call on record (from Nutt's FOIA requests) was like 30 seconds.

But the "AD/powers in charge" decided to take a deeper look and found "a bad pattern" that lead them to a "resign or termination with cause" because they are going with no buyout/no settlement.

So maybe mutliple hookers for himself, for recruits. Maybe illegal recruiting stuff no one knows about and they'll bury it along with Hugh. Who knows, they didn't say.

An Ole Miss fan: "We'll be fine. This is still a good job. Penn State and Baylor didn't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel for years, why should we?"

Oh my, that fanbase is deluded.

This news grants me joy. Sorry to all you decent Ole Miss folks out there, but I have just never been able to stand that school.

And lol at the amount of denial on Twitter right now. People claiming Hugh did nothing wrong, and that 'a man of faith was unfairly attacked.'

Cmon now.

But for real, sucks you guys have to go through this. Les Miles to Ole Miss?

I think 10-2 is the ceiling if Nebraska truly does have a 1st Round QB.

I'm expecting a 7-8 win season myself

are they? I heard the last hotel room got rented in Kearney for 850 bucks for the night. I assumed Lincoln would be expensive too.

I'm just gonna drive out from Omaha to watch it and drive back. You just have to get to lincoln or a bit south of it for the totality

Hey Les is still looking for a job

Personally I'm hoping for a reunion with Tommy Tuberville.

This means the NCAA can focus on nailing UNC now, right?

Haha, just kidding. Those fuckers are going to get away with everything.

Honestly, so much time has passed and nobody ever talks about it. I always forget about them. Yeah, nothing is going to happen to them.

Nothing like a little offseason schadenfreude to bring everyone back to the CFB thread.

Also, for those that may not be aware or may have forgotten, Houston Nutt busting Hugh Freeze over phone records and potential extracurricular activity is the height of irony.

Hugh was kinda right to compare himself to Jesus. Even Jesus enjoyed the company of escorts lol

Just realized Aaron Robinson is transferring from Alabama too. B.J. is the stud between the two, but Aaron leaving hurts us more. True sophomore corner that got playing time at DB just a season ago? Hell, he leave for? Our depth in the secondary is shaky enough.

Between him, Kendall Sheffield, and Maurice Smith, I wonder what's up with us losing DBs in line for a ton of playing time recently.

We're really appreciative for Sheffield btw. Good god, it's getting really scary in the defensive backfield. Wade and Okudah will probably getting good minutes on the field. I hope Ward and Arnette are ready to pick up the slack for us and be the anchor in our secondary.

I expect you all to split between Wisconsin and Iowa. You'll win one and lose the other. Ohio State and Penn State. Those are the three I gave you in losses atm. But if y'all reach 10-2, that's a fantastic year in my eyes. But 8 wins seems to be the most realistic expection (maybe drop a bullshit inexplicable loss to Northwestern?)

Honestly this is the best offseason since Petrino and the Hot Piss.
That is what I thought of when I heard the Freeze news. I thought of Bobby Petrino

Forgot he ended up at Ohio State. It's weird, he'd probably be a starter this year in place of Diggs.

Not sure if the young corners we've got on the roster are looking like ballers during the summer or what.

Check out this passage from Godfrey:

Consider what brought us here

Nutt’s legal team would’ve never requested an FOIA of Freeze’s phone records if Freeze hadn’t, according to Nutt’s attorneys, tried to dump rumors of NCAA allegations onto Nutt’s Ole Miss staff, allegedly to save face in recruiting in January 2016.

And Freeze probably wouldn’t have (allegedly) buried Nutt to the press, had the NCAA not shown up in Oxford to work an investigation that started with Nutt’s former director of football operations falsifying ACT scores.

And Nutt would’ve never been the head coach at Ole Miss if not for his own public records missteps at Arkansas, revealed 10 years ago this summer. Those gaffes made him a dent-and-scratch sale item for AD Boone, who grabbed Nutt in 2008 despite loud warnings from Fayetteville. (If you take nothing else from Thursday’s events, know Hogville. Was. Right.)

Over the next four years, Boone would privately convey genuine shock at Nutt’s deceptive practices and gross inefficiency, as if he’d forgotten how the coach landed in Oxford in the first place. Nutt was the best available candidate after the school had mismanaged the wildly inexperienced Ed Orgeron for three losing seasons.

Don’t forget Orgeron was hired in 2004 because Ole Miss fired the consistent-but-never-elite David Cutcliffe after the Eli Manning era expired. Cutcliffe was a package deal in Manning’s recruitment to replace Tommy Tuberville in 1999. A few years ago, Tuberville told me he left Ole Miss because Auburn promised him better resources, even after coming back to the Rebels to see if they’d promise the same support.

Lastly: Ole Miss hired Tuberville in 1995 because it needed a rebuild after massive NCAA sanctions for recruiting violations.

Thank god we got
A) our beautiful end rotation (What the hell do we do with all of them. We just got Chase Young and we're gonna have to leave him on the bench a lot with this ridiculous depth we have at the end position.)
B) on paper we got an excellent class at CB
C) excellent players on paper in next class at secondary

We'll probably end up with Antwaun Jackson after he leaves Blinn (thanks Gus for blocking him from Ohio state for no reason you dick).

It is weird that Sheffield transferred in the first place. He'd have started this year as well at Bama as you said. Your Dline will make life better for your secondary and help with the growing pains

Jesus... this is the song that never ends

Is what it is. Mississippi has small state population wise with two schools competing for kids to play in the SEC. Arkansas isn't a large populous state (about the same as Mississippi), but they've got one major school to funnel kids too.

Other SEC schools like LSU, Bama, FL, UGA ect... have larger recruiting bases with more storied history and more consistent success.

Even beyond all of the crazy dumb shit that's happened in the Grove and there has been mounds of dumb shit going down mind you Ole Miss probably shouldn't ever be great other than the random statistical oddity where they get the better QB.

I mean someone has to loose in the SEC for every team that wins.

This is the biggest recruiting weekend of the year for Florida.

Friday Night Lights.

We're going to have two 5* Qbs on campus.

I can't remember the last time that happened.

Mississippi at least has a solid community college scene to get them recruits (if they didn't, they'd be fucked).

How many recruits just removed Ole Miss from the list of schools they are considering?
Depends on if they're sanctions or not

Two things that work against them in comparison to Baylor/Penn State

1) Penn State is a blue blood in football compared to Ole Miss

2) Ole Miss is in the SEC West unlike Baylor in the BIG XII

And also

did ole miss remove their money yet?

I would make a joke about how you'll have that again when UGA and UF play but that's in Jax so...

Doesn't Francois have another year after this one?

He's got 2 years left after this season, he was a redshirt freshman last year. No idea if he goes early or not.

Don't know why that matters that much, though. Even today, QBs aren't typically expecting starting roles as true freshmen. Earlier playing time is best, but I don't get the feeling most of them are looking to start right off the bat. Could be wrong, especially in Fields' case.

Most don't, but most aren't Fields.

Fields best direct comparison is Jacob Eason, and you saw how fast he became the starter.

Maybe I'm thinking of Tua too much. Eason is probably a better comparison.

Was thinking Fields would be ok redshirting/spending a year learning Jimbo's system behind Frenchy if that's where he really wanted to go. Hope I'm wrong, though.

I think iowa is lower on the list of games we might lose because they don't have a QB or any threatening receivers

But yeah, Ohio State is probably a loss as is Penn state (tho Mike Riley is a known "giant killer" coach).

Then I'd say Oregon / Wisconsin as games we might split, and then the of course inexplicable loss (tho northwestern should be decent again this year)

That said, Nebraska was in most of its B1G games last year despite bad QB play it literally not having a scholarships QB, so this year should be very interesting as it finally fits Mike riley's offense

He redshirted 2015 so he could potentially have 2 more years after this unless he goes pro or something.

Fields gonna go somewhere that he can start asap and that ain't FSU right now.
Agreed.

Fields could start at the vast majority of programs in the country. Vanillalite said it best, he's like Eason. Francois looked good even after he got murdered by that Oline (the Biggest Achilles heel for the Noles atm. If they can protect Francois even marginally better, they're set. Fields isn't going to unseat Francois.

I don't think you'll drop Oregon. Taggart has to rebuild that godawful defense.
