David Wise Confirmed as Composer of Snake Pass

David fucking Wiiiiiiiiise!

I've just gone from no interest to day one purchase, and I still haven't seen footage of the game. Will support anything that man has involvement in. Fucking legend.

I'm actually serious, from a musical standpoint, I idolise him haha.

Fun fact:

David Wise previously worked on "Snake Rattle 'n' Roll", and "Sneaky Snakes".

He also worked on the "Battletoads" series, you might have heard of it, which featured stages with snakes in them. Here's my favorite David Wise snake song:

Yeah, I've played it as well. Never got far though. It's a bit too difficult for my patience.

But I was referring specifically to games with snakes in the title. :)

I guess he's drawn to animals. Since snakes, toads and apes make up most of his gaming-works.

I just watched some gameplay of this because I didn't realize it was coming to PS4, and holy fuck this game looks so cool. AND David Wise too? Day 1.

Why now???
The game looks awesome.
Sure Wise is legendary but I never get these uposts.

I've always been a fan of DW's work and never saw any gameplay of Snake Pass, just knew it was a indie game coming to Switch.

Now I went to see the trailer, that's all, sorry if my post came out in a bad way.

Edit: Yeah the game seems nice. :)

Heh, they actually mentioned NeoGAF in their blog post. :p

LET'S NOT FORGET THE LITTLE GUY
Oh and before I forget: the team just want to give a big shout out to the guys over on NeoGaf who were speculating about our composer during the recent Nintendo Switch announcement! Although a very accurate guess, that naturally raised a few eyebrows, (Oh yes...I received many concerned text messages) we totally believe credit should be given where it's due. The music used in our previous trailers and livestreams was actually composed solely by Dom Parker, one of our sound designers here at Sumo.

Needless to say, he was more than flattered you guys thought his track was written by none other than Mr Wise, but hey, now the world knows the truth. We still love you guys though <3

Edit: Just noticed someone already posted this, oh well!

The music made by Dom Parker for the trailers was better than the two sample tracks from Wise; but David Wise is a super talented composer and it's great that he's in more games.

If those tracks were Dom Parkers, then he had done a really great job. They definately hit some 90s Rare game vibes

Wise: "Great to be a part of the team, guys! What kind of sound are we going for?"

Snake Pass Devs: "Do you have any leftover Tropical Freeze tracks that never made it into the game?

Wise: "I mean, yeah, I gue-"

Snake Pass Devs: "WE'LL TAKE THEM"

Btw, we're going to have David Wise live on our stream tomorrow @ 5PM GMT (https://twitch.tv/snakepass) so if you wanted to ask some questions that I can field to him, fire away! Reasonable ones though, of course. :p

I'll be sure to forward this to Dom. He's super talented and came from the LBP community like myself and several others at Sumo.

LOL

Those preview tracks are all too brief. Last week I went from zero knowledge about this game to buying eShop cards in anticipation of its release. Great-looking game; Mr. Wise is icing on the cake.

I'd love to hear how his writing process has changed as the platforms he's worked on have advanced (from NES to current consoles).

And if he ever plays sax outside of beautiful women's windows to woo them.

Would it be possible for him to release the original version of "Seashore War?" I know he's mentioned that it's his favorite song of his and was just hoping to hear it one day... :)

Is there any difference for him between collaborating with a larger developer and something relatively small, say Tengami? Has his approach and methods changed much since becoming a freelance composer? Does he exclusively compose for games that feature jungle animals?

Really appreciate the questions everyone! Feel free to drop more and I'll do my best to ask all of them later on today. :)

Shoutouts to neogaf for sure!

that puzzling face
I'm bookmarking this thread for whenever anyone asks me 'do composers really move units?'

LOL

Ask him when is Tropical Freeze OST CD launching. Please. And also if it would be possible to hear some beta tracks from that game that were cut. I remember hearing another theme for Alpine Incline the first time it showed and I'd love to hear it propperly.

Any more q's before we go live in an hour and 30?

I have some!

From one of his biggest fans :)

Does he have an agent that represents him or does he personally pick and choose which projects to take on? Aside from the obvious ($$$) what does he look for in a project?

With Snake Pass specifically at what point in the stage development process is he looped in. "Hey this stage or area is done, let's talk about the music" or "We have this concept, have any inspirations?"

Thanks, and I can't wait for Snake Pass! Great move on getting Wise, guys. Especially with new IP it's hard to get noticed, but with him on board you lure consumers in and then dazzle 'em with the world and gameplay.
