Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - New previews, impressions thread

Talking about the gamplay demo so read at your own risk:
I watched the Giant Bomb walkthrough after watching the other 45 minute demo before this thread was posted. The 45 minute demo forces Jensen to manually make his way from literally the bottom basement area of the ARC compound to the top as the player sneaks around.

The Giant Bomb demo is noteworthy for a few reasons. It shows hostage rescue and a different route. Killing those police officers probably puts you in a bad place with the cops later on. Saving the guy shaves off a good 50 minutes of sneaking around as he gives you the password to basically walk right into the base. The downside is everyone is on alert thanks to the guy betraying you.

Hopefully someone finds a glitch to break the game allow all the augs immediately upon release. I got through the fall without altering anyone so hopefully this is just as easy.

I have this game pre ordered simply due to word of mouth and I got it at a good price so ill give it a shot.

Now, I have zero hype/expectations because I dont know what this game is so from simply judging from the videos it looks kind of lame?

am I missing something? seems like a slow paced future apocalyptic action game with a lifeless character? I know I could not be any further off the mark but please enlighten me. Is it because I need to play the others? what is it?

It's a FPS RPG set in a near future Cyberpunk world dealing with human enhancements via cybernetic implants or augmentations, corporate espionage and the Illuminati. The game is designed for you to play it how you want be it stealthy, a hacker, combat specialist or a mixture. It's up to you.

Adam Jensen isn't "lifeless" but at the same time he's a bit of blank slate because like Ashtar said you can mold him into the character you play as and you also have various options on how you deal with the world via dialog options and how you tackle missions and objectives. He had a personal stake and objective in the previous game and some of the revelations tie in to what you'll be trying to further uncover in this one.

I think the videos have been quite good myself, I've watched numerous playthroughs of the Dubai mission but often for some though stealth playthroughs don't always make the best trailers.

Anyways, for those wondering in one of the previews linked they do address the endings from Human Revolution to Mankind Divided..

I love HR so of this is just a improved HR I'm ready for it.

I wonder we going get more about Project D and hints to Deus Ex

If you get it on PC you could use a trainer. Whenever I replay DEHR that's what I do. It's fun to mess around with every upgrade.

This game is one of the reasons I am upgrading my PC. I hope for a great port by Nixxes, we already know this will be DX12 title.

This is sounding really good, and it wasn't even on my radar until recently.

I should finish up Human Revolution now that I have my PS3 set up in another room. It was one of the games I unpacked this weekend and wanted to get back to, Dark Souls being the other.

$33 and change right now on cdkeys. I probably ought to jump on a pre-order here soon. Do we have any idea of PC minimum and recommended specs?

That's what I did, had hardly any ammo at the female boss, I think she was some sort of ninja. Anyways I stopped playing it and picked it up again 2 years later, used an ammo trainer for the boss fights only and enjoyed immensely, really hope they have proper boss battles this time around. I prefer to play stealthy and let loose when I mess it up :)

Animation quality is once again pretty subpar just like its predecessor (which had some really robotic and underwhelming execution)

So how important is it to play the previous game or is this a good one to jump right in?

Looks like they are retconning the (atrocious) ending(s) of Human Revolution so I think you're safe.

The narrative wasn't anything to write home about either with flat superficial villains and a boring main character.

I think you'll be fine

Looks like this is the reason I get a 970

EDIT: just read an article speculating recommending 16 gb ram? Damn I must be out of the loop because I didn't even know that was a thing now

Nice to see it's coming together well. I've always been interested in Deus Ex but they've never fully grabbed me. I'll probably pick this up some time this fall since it's looking really great so far.

PS4 version in the gamersyde vids lacks obmb and POM, I wonder if they will add them in before release.

Other than that it looks really great imo, the TAA looks to work really well... but it is oversharpened. Perhaps they will allow even console users to tweak that I hope.

PC looking great in the large screens they released though:

Yeah, seems odd that motion blur is missing on consoles. It's not a particularly taxing effect and would benefit a 30fps game substantially.

Also hoping for adjustment with sharpening as well.

Wasn't sure about it but these impressions citing similarities in sidequest depth to Witcher 3 and improved combat now means I'm 100% day one. Can't wait.

Some motion blur would really help a lot and the lacking character animations feel all the more noticeable with the upgraded graphics. The levels and the environments look fantastic though.

The art direction is awesome :D. Man I have to get NMS first, but I can't keep this waiting too long... Or so I say that now.

Yeah I imagine they could before release as is presuming it is not ultra expensive or something. Perhaps it was just disabled for the event and e3 (probably same build given the time span).

Yeah, it is looking nice. I am a big fan of the environmental lighting and materials in the game. Properly industrial looking :D

Haven't watched any footage of the game yet (will dive in after work), did they fix how melee worked? It was kinda busted and not really smooth in HR where it switches to a cutscene and often moves everyone around a bit afterwards.

Does melee still consume energy? Is the old energy system still around (recharge 1-2 bars over time, rest requires chocolate or something).

From what I can tell is the melee system exactly the same.

In one of the first gameplay demos, there was no black screen separating the cutscene, but in one of the later gameplay videos, the black screen returned. Haven't watched much of this footage so not sure how it is here, but I'm assuming from your comment that the black screen is there.

I'm starting to think for the next game that they should add in physical melee weapons like the first Deus Ex. I miss using a baton or the prod.

It's a shame the team wasn't able to make seamless takedowns.

Very impressed with what I have seen in Giant Bomb's "Unfinished" video and all of the stuff up on Gamersyde. I played Human Revolution twice - nonlethal on normal, lethal on "
Give Me Deus Ex" and loved it outside of the boss fights. Amazon is doing the same $47.99 guarantee launch pricing that they did with Uncharted 4 for Prime users. This is the highest my anticipation level has been for a game since Metal Gear Solid V.

All sounds great - the praise for the writing and story have me most excited though. Flexible gameplay and exploration without sacrificing coherent and more or less linear plot is what I really want this gen.

Witcher 3 delivered in spades, this is sounding promising and I have hope for FF XV too.

I loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Can't wait to play more Adam Jensen and I wish I had Elias Toufexis's voice...

I've currently got a 970, i5, and 8 gb ram and I'm still hopeful I can run it at 1080p/60 on high to ultra settings. Hopefully that's the case as I really don't want to spend any money upgrading my PC until next year (thinking of doing an entire new build at some point next year).

The city art looks wicked and the amount of density being described sounds great.

Hengsha in DXHR is still a city that I will explore every few months, so I've been hoping DXMD would at least match it.

That main street in front of The Hive with all the neon, restaurant signs and corporate ads, the old air conditioner units vertically filling an entire alley...

Hengsha and Detroit to for that matter were just sublime to explore. Awesome corporate or industrial locations, too. The Sarif warehouse; Tai Yong Medical offices; Omega Ranch; Belltower port or offshore platform.
