Interesting .. if its true.
For some reason I'm not believing it.
Maye they'll stick with Online passes?

Those stronger CPU's wouldn't really benefit games would it? Mostly multi tasking? I thought game development was going on a heavy GPU focus.
The CPU rework thing is interesting, but even he has posted it in a way saying "It seems like it may be". Where's for the online thing he claims "100% certainty".Are you choosing to believe one rumor over another? lol

I wonder if it's always online for used games.
Sort of what the current DRM does for XBLA games when you take your HDD and bring to someone else's console.
This thread got Intresting real fast , thanks BG for info.
Stuff like BF3/MMOs need a beefy CPU on PC to run good. Cowadoody stuff is GPU limited instead. Depends on the game.
No offline mode at all as I understand it.
I see. I hope MS changes this. Looks unlikely...
^ Yep. All I can do is pass along what I hear. No one is obligated to believe it.
What the what.Passing along some info I just posted on B3D.
Xbox 3's CPU from a FLOPs perspective seems it may have as much as double the performance of "vanilla" Jaguar cores.
Yeah I wouldn't tell anybody to hope for the best at this point.
I find it weird that all post about xbox from that one poster gets removed but we still have all these detailed leaks from everywhere. It's either on purpose, or none of it is true.
So if only Microsoft does this, wouldn't they be digging their own grave?
Damn.Yeah I wouldn't tell anybody to hope for the best at this point.
Whispernet.

people thought they were digging their own grave when they went broadband only for xbox.So if only Microsoft does this, wouldn't they be digging their own grave?

Hey would you care to respond my friend?
people thought they were digging their own grave when they went broadband only for xbox.
I actually wanted to wait until the 20th to say this, but I think if the dual camera of the orbis is standard, then it makes it easier to understand why those 4CUs are reserved for compute. From b3d, bkilian, one of the MS dev involved with kinect, said that without having a depth camera onboard, the cost of analyzing depth information from a normal camera in compute terms is in the hundreds of flops. From the vgleaks, the dual camera will enable some OS level face and hand tracking, so I won't be surprised if it is one of the application these reserved CUs will be working on. Of course I might be wrong as these are all speculation on my part.
Btw I already expected that the durango cpu would be more capable than orbis as bkillian also hinted at this, citing the VMX128 enhancement MS made on the 360, when asked if it was possible to enhance the jaguar cores.
Hey bg any words on if Orbis is actually using vannilla Jaguar or if there is some modification happening there too?
So if only Microsoft does this, wouldn't they be digging their own grave?
To what am I responding to good sir?
bgassassin, wouldn't the most logical explanation be that since the next xbox will come packaged with kinect 2 it would be somewhat less powerful than the ps4 since the next playstation probably wont come with anything fancy except the console, the controller and maybe the ps eye assuming they would cost almost the same?
How would you magically make jaguar cores twice as fast?
Hey bg any words on if Orbis is actually using vannilla Jaguar or if there is some modification happening there too?
I'm sure there will be some, pretty much always is in console parts, just likely not to the same extent.
Seems to be "plain" cores being compensated by GPU CUs. I think the main detriment to this design for PS4 at least for now is that GPU compute is rarely used in current game development. So it may take a little while for devs to fully adapt.
It wouldn't surprise me if it's true. There was some speculation before that the increase could come from the beefed up VMX units (units that are comparable in functionality to compute units on GPU)Well he could very well be right about that too.
Brace yourself.
IMO the reason is that it would not work on PS3/360, and all the engines and dev effort in general is to make sure stuff works well on them.Seems to be "plain" cores being compensated by GPU CUs. I think the main detriment to this design for PS4 at least for now is that GPU compute is rarely used in current game development. So it may take a little while for devs to fully adapt.
No offline mode doesn't make sense.
I don't call bgassassin a liar, I believe he has this information, but I doubt that final version of the console will have this.
Relax people, B3D speculation about double flops on X720 jaguar is just that... speculation.

Hmm, well that could be interesting. I suppose we'll be able to see first party utilising it properly and then closer to the end of generation third party getting the hang of it.
MAG had 265 players and the "general processing" of the PS3 sucked ass. I'm not worried.
Yeah I guess this makes sense. Still odd that MS concentrated on the CPU as much. We'll see how that works out.
Planetside 2 runs at 10-15 fps in bigger fights on cpus more powerful than what's supposed to be in ps4.
You aren't worried because most games have been designed around the super weak console cpus.
IMO speculation is trying to come up with a conclusion based on limited info. This isn't speculation.
Just like your Wii U 600GFLOP GPU prediction wasn't speculation?
That was speculation to an extent. I tried to make the best conclusion I could based on the info I got. I address that in this post and others starting here if you're interested.
