I figure I'll just grab a 32 bottle pack of water, and enough frozen Trader Joe meals to last a week. I'll cook the meals by sitting on them. I'll use the bottles to pee in and use the Trader Joe containers to shit in.

I need help verifying and understanding how damage types affect classes. My main goal is to slowly understand the damage and damage mitigation systems in D3. For this post my theoretical goal would be to build a defensive Barbarian.

The following are my assumptions that need to be verified/corrected, if someone is willing.
My simplified understanding of the primary attribute benefits for all classes are like so:
Strength = Armor Rating increase
Dexitery = Dodge % increase
Intelligence = Resistance Rating increase
Vitality = Max health increase

So my simple deduction for a class would be:
Barbarian = probably High armor, low resistance
Wizard = probably Low armor, high resistance
(omitting all other classes for simplified discussion; and keeping the extreme examples for clarity )

Types of damage:
Physical - Armor rating comes into play?
Magical ( includes arcane, fire, poison, holy etc. ) - Resistance comes more into play than armor?

Defense Rating - as I understand it Armor mostly comes into play with physical attacks, but your defensive rating reduces the amount of damage by all types of attacks. This is supposedly a secondary rating based on the Dexterity attribute.

So if the above is actually correct, and I could assign attribute points manually in Diablo 3, which I know I cannot, then to build a defensive Barbarian I would pump attribute points into Strength to reduce physical attacks and probably dexterity to increase my dodge % and defense rating that would reduce magical attacks?

This is probably a convoluted post so I apologies if it makes everyone else's heads hurt.

tldr; Barbarian getting hit with magic based attacks will do more damage than if he was hit with a physical attack? Opposite would be true for Wizards?

Thanks man, that's actually really good to know.

Last time I pulled a binge session was when Skyrim launched. I ended up drinking tons of Mountain Dew and eating a box of Cheez-its but I felt like crap in the morning, sugar crash or something, and ended up sleeping more than I wanted to and having a head-ache. It was fun and tasty while it lasted but not worth it.

This time I'm going to drink more water, drink a few cups of coffee instead of six or seven mountain dews, and probably eat some protein and fiber bars every few hours. I also have some really tasty low cal powder drinks that give me energy for when I go to the gym.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

Excellent choice man, I think it'll be the best choice. Almost every time I decide to play a game for a long, LONG time in a row (recently Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, SC2, WotlK, Cataclysm, FFXIII-2, Marvel 3), I end up fucking up everything and hurt myself... or other things.

One of my favorite gaming snacks are grapes. Healthy ( I am assuming), moist, individually wrapped by nature so no film or residue left on your fingers that will end up on your m+k, almost no prep time required, and great tasting. Your mileage may vary :p

No prep time? Frozen or bust when it comes to grapes. They aren't *that* bad calorie wise either, cup of grapes is about 100 calories.

Also a ton of sugar in grapes.

Likely hand in hand. I don't want to turn this thread into a grape debate. Thanks for bringing this up :).

I have never tried frozen. I will have to mess with this just to see how it is :)

Goldfish, no residue at all simply because you just 'drink' them pouring them into your mouth, amateurs.

Lots of coffee, water, and protein for breakfast.

Occasional fruit smoothies throughout the day, and steam cooked vegetables + more protein if I can get it for dinner.

This is my regular diet though, lol.

Not gonna lie, my Diablo 3 launch week food is all going to be stuff I can toss in the crock pot in the morning and have ready when work ends. No cooking time!

...put that way, it really sounds awful. Hey, it's still healthy food I'm cooking, damn it!

Heh. I was planning on going the crockpot method as well. Basically some beef stew I can make and just eat over a 48 hr time period.

I wonder about some of you people.

This is Diablo, dude! Compulsive behavior is the name of the game with this series.

I've resigned myself to falling far behind GAF with leveling, but lots of local friends are grabbing this so I think it won't be a huge issue. It's kind of awesome to see actually...as the game approaches launch, it's getting to that point in my social circle where lots of people who were on the fence about it now have their pre-orders in, which is causing others to grab it, and so on...

Anyway, I'm rambling. Long story short, Diablo may as well be crack-cocaine to compulsive gamers. Just let them do their thing (but I hope you guys take care of yourselves!)

Actually, armor reduces damage from ALL damage sources, resistances only reduce dmg to their particular resistance. Resistances and Armor are pretty much equal in dmg reduction.
Intelligence increases all your resistances slighty, so it effectivley is like armor, which also reduces dmg from all sources.

For more info about armor and resistances and the like, I'd read this great post I found where someone did a lot of math about it:

Is there a video, or some other online resource, where I can get an overview of the Diablo fiction so I know what the hell (baddum*chish*) is going on? Thanks. :)

My god...

I leave one icon on my desktop, the recycle bin (I do have a couple of sticky notes as well).

I have computer, bin and one folder for everything. I would kill that cluster!

Guys? Downloading is pretty slow and I have opened all the ports....
...oh, I will open them on router too xD

There was a link from member here with all the story from D1 and 2+LoD, I will try to look for it..

WTF is this shit? You basically don't even have a wallpaper with that much cluster fuck.

I give you 5 minutes to fix this shit right now. Also, you need to edit that image to have Foxer's face, not Yoshi's.

Oh and how big is your folder full of Foxer images/gifs/porno?

It took me a moment to notice Tyrael's face. I hope that's not a spoiler...

On another note, I just finished reading through all of the short stories for each class. All of them were pretty good reads with either mentioning the heroes of Diablo 3, or being a sort of backstory to them. I must say the Witch Doctor was my favorite read, and I urge anyone who hasn't read them to do so. Helps to pass the time at the very least.
