Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past |OT| Roman numerals are hard

IX is the shortest of the 3 he listed, but you can spend a long time on optional stuff. My husband spent hundreds of hours on it (he's also a crazy DQ fan like I am).

Yeah I think I played that like 300-400 hours myself lol. So much alchemy.

I wish I had my copy of IX with me. My experience with it really escapes me at the moment; booting it up and looking around would jog my memory some at least.

As I'm approaching the end of this I'm getting excited to explore the rest of the series.

Played 4-6 on DS over the last couple of years, and I've just bought batteries for my GBC to play through 1-3 and Monsters 1-2 that I've just bought online for it 😍

Keen to smash through 1-3 before 8 3DS releases (thankfully they're shorter than the later entries), then after that I have a copy of 9 ready to go so I'll be all caught up on the main series and can start on the spinoffs.
I'll play Builders soon though seeing it's got that new game smell, I'll play 1 first so I can see all the references, as I believe they're set in the same world.

So I'm close to the finish line
Just beat Orgodemir in the past and now getting ready to summon God (yes, we know it's Orgodemir disguised) and then summoning the final spirits and facing Orgodemir in the present. Battle shouldn't take long, but now need to get more money to buy all umltimate weapons and armour for all my characters.
. I might take a break and play some Gears 4. I lately tend to get burned out playing JRPGs, so I switch genres before I jump back to another JRPG.

Niraj

I shot people I like more for less.
Finished the two bonus dungeons. Not sure why
the boss for the second one was so much easier
. I don't think I'm patient or interested enough to recruit all the monsters, so I guess I'm basically done. Might continue checking the DLC tablets though.

So should I just use seeds as I find them, not worrying if a characters leave? Or should I just use them all in the avatar.

I'm in the first dungeon. I've only played maybe 10 hours of dragon quest iv before this and never used seeds due to analysis paralysis.

Use them on either main character or Maribel, not Kiefer

Nearing the end of the game and I'm not sure who I'm meant to talk to to proceed.

Apparently they're having a feast for me in Pilchard Bay but I can't seem to trigger any event.

Have you
spoken to the chef inside the ship?

Haha oh god. I really hate this game sometimes :p
A nothing character says a load of nothing followed by "Well the festival will be starting soon, shouldn't you be getting on your way?" and that's the one trigger in the whole village you need.

how do I turn on the brazier on Buccanham

I have the guiding light but everyone ignores me and the brazier itself only says it is not lit

oh, it's not the one on the castle

Still making progress, about 35 hours in at this point. Really liking how the game has progressed over the past 5 hours. The area inside the painting was really cool (reminds me of the arcane sanctuary from Diablo 2). I also almost got wiped out for the first time during the battle with Gracos, the battles are becoming more challenging. Getting the magic carpet is making exploring a whole lot easier too.

Alright, sitting around 65 hours, just got
Aishe in the party. She's totally a descendant of Keifer, which is a plot point I did not have spoiled for me prior lol. Cool.

However, I'm still salty about Maribel leaving the party. I know she returns, but in the meantime, I've lost my main healer/mage I've been building for a while now. She was two stars away from maxing out Luminary, and she was setup for Sage as well on the path to Summoner. Oh well. Aishe doesn't seem like a healer-type to me either, though I guess at this point everyone sort of has healing abilities. Should I groom her into Champion (i'm doing the same for Mervyn) while focusing on getting to Hero with the MC? I've got Ruff on Monster Masher and I'm perfectly happy with him currently.

Good damage, multiheal, kabuff, oomph, insulate, magic barrier. Don't need anything else.

And also, you're taking your time! I'm speaking to every NPC, breaking every pot, checking every path etc etc and I got to that spot at least 10-15 hours quicker than you.

So, during the Buccanham chapter, was there a hint on how to get to
the Rainbow Shore
?

A scholar tells you it's on your island, but when you go back there, your party simply treks you to go back to Buccanham and the fortune-teller in the castle is useless. Heck, the way they spoke of it made it seem like I should have been there before.

Tbh. I just looked that one up. Guessed where it was sailing around the island right but...had no idea how to get to it. I glaze over a lot of dialogue these days though, even when I don't want to.

This is one change that is worse in the remake because
in the original the path leading to the cove isn't blocked off on the world map like it is in the remake. The only way to get there is through the blue teleportal in the shrine, it's a really odd change.

Yeah I googled this too.

That explains a lot.
The only way to actually know how you are supposed to enter through the blue door that I can tell is if you thought to do so right at the beginning of the game. It doesn't help that the party members knew about the rainbow cove but they don't remind you that you can't get to it through normal travel.

BGBW

Doesn't help that I first learnt of the doors being warp points from the volcano entrance so I assumed you unlocked them by warping back to the temple. Would never have considered looking at the blue door.

At least I don't feel bad for Googling it now.

I wish they would not change your party all the time ....

I just lost my healer because I'm at the point in the story where
Maribel's father is sick or something .
Don't really feel like grinding a job for someone else to be a sage : /
What should I do ? My main character is currently a priest because I want to get the paladin class (already got Gladiator maxed and martial artist)

Aishe is a decent dmg dealer at least
Also it's funny because I was so expecting to see a
descendant of Kiefer
to show up :p

Dang, it's weird because then how was Pike able to get there at the beginning? The change doesn't make sense.

Yeah only reason I knew is because I tried that door earlier on. I don't know that there was any indication of it.

If you can get your hands on a healslime heart, that could help. Doesn't take all that long to master and will give you multiheal indefinitely.

Spreading some healing staffs among your team and letting the AI work their clairvoyance helps a lot. When you get the sage's stone too from the mini medal king. Almost makes having a dedicated healer moot.

I have not really messed around with the whole tablet and residents thing with the haven/monster meadow and I got a bunch of monster hearts.
But never really bothered to use them, well, actually how do we use them ? I tried to use one once and it did nothing .

Have in character inventory at Alltrades and then change vocation and the relevant monster vocation is available.

You just put the heart in the inventory of whichever character and when you go to change jobs it will be an option.

Have one of your chracters hold a heart and when you go to Alltrades the option to master the monster skill will be added to the list of possible vocations.

64 hours in and I just
went through the final dungeon 4 times to get all the items
and now just need to beat the final boss. While looking to see what extra side stuff I could to before finishing the game I realized I hadn't touched the tablets at all. I just ran through 2/3 of them with ease but the final few might give me trouble.

I also did not touch the monster hearts at all. What are considered to be the best ones? Right now I have Auster as Gladiator/Pirate, Maribel as Sage, Ruff as Monster Masher and Mervyn as Paladin. Auster is the only person I'm doing a second intermediate class as I generally don't enjoy class systems in my DQ games and just wanted to keep things as straightforward as possible without having to look at class trees and stuff. I figure whatever monster heart I use, if any, will go to Ruff (it makes the most sense for his character anyway).

Is it important to use vocations? U're stats appear to drop so much. I don't really get their purpose. Is it only for the extra skills? So if u never take a vocation u wont get any new skills?

Pretty much yeah , the stat drops depending on the class you choose but intermediate class is way better in that regard, my main character was gladiator and was kicking ass with multi fist on solo boss :p

Also with basic vocations you keep the skills you get now matter what class you are .
But you want to change class otherwise I'm not sure how far you will get into the game .

You still get some (rarely) by leveling up, but not that many. Train vocations for skills/spells and, frankly, the stats are less well rounded but usually better where it counts, especially among advanced vocations.

So I finally made my first table and shared it, what now?

Am I supposed to share the same table over and over or it's better to send different types?

How do he quick saves work? Normally quick saves in jrpgs mean it saves your state and shuts down, then when you load it it deletes that save.

But I recall reading in some preview threads that is not how dragon quest handles it. It saves and shut down, but when you load the save it isn't deleted and can be reloaded? Is that accurate?

I think you're supposed to share tablets of a particular monster that you want to level up. I haven't played much with it so far but that seems to be my impression.

I spend a lot of time just exploring, playing in the casino, and trying out other classes. However, for the most part I'm taking your advice and forcing everyone down the path of Champion, aside from the Hero who is gonna be... well, a Hero. I'm still planning on having
Maribel as a Summoner, though, since she was so close anyways.

I lost to
Cumulus Vex
twice after careful planning/some grinding, so now I'm taking a break from the story to level everyone up, change classes, buy better equipment, etc.

Paladin class does have Multi-heal as well as Kazing, so continue working to get Paladin. If you can get Champion, that is basically a better Paladin (which is already one of the best classes in the game.)
