Have you guys heard of the anime "Yukikaze"?

The novels, which have been published in English on Viz' Haikasoru imprint, are pretty interesting works of semi-Hard-SF fiction dealing with themes of identity and mans obsession with machinery in an increasingly automated war between mankind and a mysterious alien race that has been all but forgotten by those still living on Earth. It's a fairly heavy read in places (though it's nowhere near as hard work as, say, Usurper of the Sun, a book by Rocket Girls author Housuke Hojiri that was probably the hardest SF book published on Haikasoru), but it's a good read if that's your kind of thing.

I only watched the first episode of the Yukikaze OAV series back when it was first published in the US, and was way too expensive. From what I remember, they actually started at what was the beginning of the second book rather than the beginning of the first (which really confused me when I eventually read it). It was also incredibly boring - it was pretty much airplane pornography, which might not have been so bad if it had been handdrawn, but being Gonzo, all that stuff was in CG. Admittedly, it had a pretty high budget, so was somewhat bleeding-edge CG-wise back in the day, but as I say, it boring as heck. I can't think of any reason why it's worth watching in a modern context.

The AT-X airing of MTLR was mostly uncensored, but even then there were still a few things that were saved for the BDs. So say there was a scene where Haruna's breasts would be covered by steam, they would consequently remove most of the steam, but still leave a modicum of it there as to entice you to buy the BDs to get the clearest image.
Highschool DxD on the other hand was aired completely uncensored on AT-X (even more so than the BD release), yet the disks still sold extremely well.

Don't say that, he'll miss the relationship between Kirito and Asuna develop into the greatest love story ever told.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!
Am I on crunchyroll?

Because they really say stuff like that. I think they mean it, too.

Was it really? I'm tempted to watch it for Koneko.

Well, I'm also reading the translated novels too, but that's not really why.
Would I actually recommend it? Probably not. Did I like it okay enough? Sure.

School Days 5

The MC is a dick. With the amount of trains we see in this, I hope he throws himself under one. Yes, I saw this coming a mile off, but I still don't have to like it. And this is why yuri is the purest form of love.

As for positives. The "Oh yeahs" were humorous and we got to see more of the best bud. The best bud is a far more favourable character so it's nice the ED gave him some love.

In conclusion: I never asked for this.

Yes you did. We all did.

School Days is one of the key pillars that holds this community together!

You sure it's not the other way around.

there was a single shot of Silica in this episode.

what more do you want? christ...

While this is probably the weakest first episode of the three shoujo shows this season, I was again pleasantly surprised by the quality of this one. It doesn't have the animation quality of Kaibutsu-kun or the comedy pacing of Kami-sama, but there's definitely a lot of charm.

It's a much more serious story than the other two shoujo shows this season; although there is comedy here it falls a little flat due to the more muted nature of the personalities. Characterisation is also not as strong - the perfect boyfriend and his brash best friend, for instance, are out of Shoujo 101.

What impressed me here is that some thought and imagination have gone into the adaptation again. Sure, the show's clearly not super high budget, and the story isn't particularly original. But compared to something like Little Busters, where everything happens in a predictable and cliched manner, Suki-tte does interesting things with its visuals to liven up the storytelling.

I've only picked a couple of screenshots that I'm not sure illustrate things perfectly, but the things I wanted to mention in particular were:

sukitte1_zps897a890e.jpg

Cloud porn. The background art is frequently bland, sort-of CG stuff, but there are lots of really striking cloud porn shots - there's a beautiful sunset one that I haven't captured here. The cloud porn seems to be a recurring visual motif for the main character, accentuating her isolation. This shot's even better because the music (which is great, all strings and piano) swells up massively, really egging on the emotional value - and then a train rushes past, completely undercutting the cheesiness with the element of surprise.

I should also remark on the number of speeches that are "covered" with slow pans across beautiful background images that have come straight out of KareKano, I swear. Speaking of which:

This shot I've picked because of the sliding panels tracking the characters as they walk. This doesn't really look like much, I realise, but it's just another way of livening up the visuals through the endless conversations of shoujo dramas - and again, reminded me of KareKano's use of split screens.

I'm not sure if the above is really helpful for anyone considering whether or not to watch the show, but again I felt that it turned out better than expected. This is not for people who don't like shoujo at all to try, I don't think - the characters will probably turn you off - but for those of us who do it's more entertaining than first expected.

SAO 14 isn't a finale and it was true to the light novel, it's just the end of the first part of the overarching story. The story carries on to new things and the anime is doing the same too for another 11 eps.

Well I think the idea of the filtering being some tangible existence of the anime and in it is an interesting idea, that would be compelling if carried out that way, however that seems quite ambitions for a 13 episode anime especially with the idea of there being numerous, and I guess, elemental kings, being around. Though it would add a nice additional element to this current potential plot of seeking revenge on the main character, as well as the larger take over all plot presented briefly.
There's the implication Weismann created the Sword of Damocles. And if the fight between Scepter 4 and the Homura gang is any indication, each king possesses such an artifact. Then it wouldn't be farfetch to assume Shiro would also have one. But that is if Shiro is truly the "colorless king" or a previous vessel of the 7th king. The filter having a tangible existence would work if GoHands wanted the introduction with the masses of white buildings to represent a colorless world or something to that extent. It would also add significance to Neko's apparition form when we see her take human form yet no one notices except the service robot. Neko's presence could serve as an explanation for how reincarnation works if it's present in K and even why Shiro's absent of his memories of being the 7th king if he is the same person. I do think it's likely to assume they're one and the same based on these facts. It's why the confrontation between the little girl and Shiro is going to be pivotal as she can see the "truth."

Asuna broke the rules of the game? "Oh, stuff like that happens, I guess!"
You died? Oh, who cares?
Bad guy: "My motive? Something something flying castle I don't remember", Kirito: "True dat", Asuna: *Nods*

Yeah, alright, whatever.

Final scene was cool though. (y)

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 1

I've always known this franchise existed, I've played the game, but I had never actually read/watched it. And now I did!

The pacing in this first episode was abysmal, but I understand why they did it... And I guess I'm glad they did it, because this first arc would be painful to watch if it lasted more than one episode.

The fights already look nice without any shenanigans, the style is awesome, and the dialogues are classy as hell. Count me in.

Hopefully Jojo and From the New World makes up for SAO's failure.

JoJo just looks like it's going to be pure fun. I will be on the edge of my seat waiting for each week's episode.

Shinsekai, on the other hand, I fear is going to turn into Casshern Sins for me. I will really love it, but be terrified of watching each week because of how depressing everything is.

Kyousuke is pretty amazing of a character in both design and personality. Somehow I thought he'd be more of a subtle cool quiet characters but the most outgoing of the bunch, and just plain divine for Riki, and the one responsible for curing his loneliness from long ago (I guess backstory episodes will hopefully explore that?) made him the best of the bunch. Kengo is nice too and Masato and Riki for second favorites. Alot of them are just over the top and Riki is way more outgoing then I thought too.

I like the plot idea, or both aspects of it, and I have a feeling it will have an emotional ending 23 episodes from now.
Or rather on the happier side, just the thoughts of the friends having to split up after this year since Kyousuke will be graduating and then eventually everyone will go there separate ways, if only they could stay together forever
.

I do hope more backstory is explored the one this episode was hilarious
The bee scene with Riki setting fire to the spray while Masato was wearing the honey, lol

Tanken Driland ends in 2.5 hours.

Too bad everyone seems to be ignoring the show :(

I Want To Fuck My Brother 1

It's the sequel to Don't Fuck Your Sister! Or something. I dunno.

You've got a girl who wants to have sex with her brother. There's no secret twist or subtext or anything. This is just if Koi Kaze was turned into a shitty harem comedy.

But hey, the brother is self-aware and knows that this is stupid, so it's okay!

Please don't tell me this is a Yoshida special... it'd break my heart if that were true. lol
I though it did kinda sorta OK, or at least not completely terrible. But I don't really remember.

And assuming you mean Reiko Yoshida, then no. Not involved in this. Same director and character designer as Mayo Chiki though. Yoshida apparently wrote Girls & Panzer.

What hurts even more is that those dumb fucks could have made Mayo Chiki S2 instead.

I don't think the staff is as close to Mayo Chiki as the OP would lead you to believe. Keiichiro Kawaguchi and the character designer are the only non-VA staff from Mayo Chiki working on OniAi. Different animation studio, different sponsors, etc.

Edit: Ah, never mind. Both OniAi and Mayo Chiki are Media Factory. Yeah, they probably could've done Mayo Chiki S2 over this. :V

I'm glad that they showed us just how stupid the main characters are in the first few minutes with this little montage, it certainly helps set my expectations and reminds me I'm watching a Key adaptation where everyone is incredibly mentally deficient and that this show is certainly no exception. Welcome to Little Busters!

lb1f.jpg

The character designs leave much to be desired (as the OP shall demonstrate), the humor feels like it's trying way to hard to be funny and ultimately falls flat and the dead eyes are forever watching. The real carnival of stupid hasn't started just yet but when it does... oh boy. Let me just say that this has potential to be the most hilarious Keywreck yet if the plot synopsis on Wikipedia is anything to go by!

lb1i.jpg

wouldn't be a key anime if the protagonists didn't have a tragic past

lb1j.jpg

yet another shining example of how unfunny this is

lb1k.jpg

it's even got an incredibly lazy PV featuring sprites from the games. clearly pandering to the indie dweeb demographic

All in all, this has fairly dull animewatch and I'll have to give this 2 out of 5 toei dead eyes

Yeah and it even came out in the US on Dvd.

SAO 14

o5rkj.jpg

Seriously. Why. Even in the fucking episode,
the villain asks the "reader" why.

And there's no answer. SAO singlehandedly justifies everything bad that everyone has ever said about Japan. People who hate anime are right. It's the shittiest medium of shit ever shat out by shitty people preying on even shittier consumers. And I say that as someone half-ironically playing an iOS game where I can pretend I'm talking to characters from Aria.

I mean, I forgot the atrociousness that was episode 1 and 2 because of the overall shittiness of the last 10 or so episodes. But this episode reminded of how self-destructive this hobby can be and of how SAO represents everything that is wrong with not just Japanese nerdery, but nerdery in general.

Fuck man. This is a show that makes I Want To Fuck My Brother look like high art. How is that even possible?

Just... Jesus Christ man... I don't even fucking know.

Dogs: Bullets & Carnage

To celebrate the third awesome show by David Productions in a row (after Inu x Boku and Ben-To), I decided to give one of their older works a spin. I'm not sure that was such a great idea in retrospect, as I'm now sad that this four part OVA is basically just an introduction to the manga, and considering it's already a few years old, it doesn't look like I'll get more in animated form. Too bad, as this looks like something that could be quite enjoyable. I already love the characters, and I'm always down for some good shoot outs and brutal beatdowns with a good dose of likable psychopaths, black humor and terrible Engrish. The OVAs were obviously cheap as hell, and it appears most of the budget was spent on the sword fight in episode 3. Which probably wasn't a bad idea. All in all, this wasn't nearly as well put together as David's latest works, but still enjoyable.
