I love the DS franchise enough to hope that it is next gen. It needs to be next gen. This generation is done.

Donovan will return. Believe.

Unless you're not a Donovan player. In which case, believe anyway.

I wish there was a way to measure the combination of hype, worry, hope and terror in the FGC when Ono took the stage.

When Ono said "I will not be talking about Street Fighter," I had to fight the urge to flip off my screen.

Next level SFxT is ASS.

Let's be honest here: anything outside of UMvC3 in the US is pretty much ass to watch. :p SFIV and SFxT or pretty much any game can be interesting with asian/international players thrown in the mix. I saw an awesome FT5 SFIV AE set between Daigo (Ryu) and Xian (Gen) which won't be topped by any US players this year, no doubt in my mind.

Yeah I saw that set too and it was sick. Xian will be in trouble though once people start learning the matchup. But saying it can't be topped by the U.S is ridiculous. America has plenty of top players on par with the Japanese like Ricky, Justin, PR Rog, Dieminion, Alex Valle, and others that can match that set. Also watching SFxT with players like the EG boys, Ryan Hunter, and Jibbo is also very high level. Next Level SFxT is just THAT bad.

I care enough to cheer it on from the sidelines, but I probably won't like what they show so I don't care about playing this hypothetical sequel.

RAH RAH Darkstalkers, though

EDIT: Also glad no fighting game was announced for PS4, cuz then I'd prob. have to get its PC ver. @_@

Imagine if Ono had came out and showed a trailer for SF5 or DS4 and said "launch game...bitches". Tournaments for whichever of those two games would be LOL worthy for the first 6 months because almost no one would have the system(lack of availability) to practice the game(the tournament itself will probably only have 2 set ups) but they would still enter it anyways.

Ultmizer's impressions suck.
+ he sucks on the mic
+ he sucks at cooking
+ he's on a tirade to ruin the Chappelle robot for me

EDIT: God Dieminion vs. Sanford GF is so boring. I've never had a problem with it before, but watching this right now is grating.

That's when tournies are the most fun- it's who can figure out gimmicks and counter-gimmicks on the fly the quickest.

Yeah, I love to see the on-the-fly innovation in the early days of fighting games. Really rewards the players who can think and adjust quickly. Also those willing to experiment with new play theories on the go.

From a design perspective I'd actually love to design a game that started with a very standard set of rules and conditions, but that it then had the option to add random modifiers to those rule sets on either a match by match or on a tournament by tournament basis. So you could have a game where players would learn the basics, but you would still getting getting that freshness that you mention above at each tournament.

Using SF4 as a base example. All the basic character's movesets and the gameplay system basics would stay the same. But at any specific tournament you could get like sets of two or three randomly created modifiers that could really change how the game plays.

Tournament A:
Full cast walkspeed + 10%
Super Meter builds continually during the match
25% of normal damage dealt is recoverable

Tournament B:
All HK and HP moves have two less startup frames
No Ultras
EX moves cost half a bar, not one

Tournament C:
Airblocking is allowed
Dashes recover 50% faster
15% extra horizontal movement added to jumps

That would mean that you would still be rewarded as a good player for putting in the time to learn your combos, timings and whatnot. But you would have the meta layer of also trying to figure out how to optimally play and what characters would work best in each tournament specific rule set. It would also reward players who learn more of the cast, as they would have the better options for jumping between characters as the tier lists would vary highly from tournament to tournament. Might be a stupid idea, but I like it.

"With dynamic individuality(and/or personality), a world famous UMvC3 player. Even overseas, there is no person who doesn't know who he is."

disclaimer: this translation may be partially or entirely fraudulent

I've seen people talking about Yipes in Japanese in finalroundbats stream chat while marvel is on.

that's called raw skillz. and then eventually after a game is out for a while the tech catches up and the dedicated specialists start beating the more talented players. i.e. justin wong in every game's life cycle.

Infiltration leaves Western Wolves.

I am no longer part of Western Wolves, but I had an unforgettable year in 2012 and I wish them the best in the future. Thank you everyone!

Whoa.

PS4 will not block used games.

Minor victory for TOs everywhere. Always online is the final boss, and it's looking like it can go either way considering Sony demoed two games that require online all the time.

Unfortunately, late day news not so good. The console doesn't block used games, but will support the ability for publishers to insist on a license activation.

Also Laugh is still listed as WW on their site according to Eventhubs. Breakup confirmed?

This is exactly why I though the reactions to no used games initially were absurd, since publishers have already been enforcing this kind of stuff, and next gen will only make it easier. In fact, Sony is one of the ones who spearheaded this stuff, making online activation codes present on many of their first party titles.

Yeah, I predicted last week they would put in tech that allowed publishers to "block" play until a new key was bought, but would be able to market it as "the system allows used games" by making it at the publisher's request.

It's a brilliant system from their perspective - they just provided the tool, the publisher used it. What will be interesting to see is whether it's widely adopted, or only rarely used, with the publishers being treated as pariahs for it (Atlus/P4A region lock). I'm betting the former.
