Lessons learned from last night: No matter how much you love Hildibrand and everything associated with it, doing 10 consectutive runs of Battle in the Big Keep will make you feel nauseous at the thought of hearing Battle on the Big Bridge in Trials Roulette.

Enkidu was worth it, though.

Lapsed player here...is 2.5 the last main content push before the new expansion in Spring? I'm so out of the loop.

Sort of. 2.5 was split into three total parts. The one we just got with new dungeons and trials, 2.51 (late-February) with Gold Saucer and a new Relic step, and then 2.55 / 2.5 Part 2 (late March) which is the conclusion of the 2.0 storyline. After that will be the expansion.

Anyone know where I pick up the quest for the carbon-thingie upgrade items? I'm actually looking forward to running LoA more...

Turn in WoD quest and a new quest in Saint Conich's pops for the weekly.

After the first week, pickup should be in RevTol.

True still it's not worth it to lock on IMO cause if I'm doing spells in melee range I'm facing the target therefore using auto attack and the only reason I'd be moving is to avoid an attack.

You can still autoattack while moving, that's actually the point of locking, if you move using legacy controls, you don't autoattack because your char faces that direction, which isn't the boss. If you don't use legacy controls though and just strafe out of the way, then you don't lose anything. If you have to move backwards, you also don't lose anything since you probably don't want to be backpedalling and you'll be out of range anyway.

Just commenting on the auto-attack / melee range bit. I don't use lock-on even on melee much less on my Summoner but I have ad rebound to strafe and circle strafe with mouse camera controls.

What do you guys mean when you say "lock on"?

Lock onto a target.
Your character will now always face the target in question and strafe around it instead of moving freely.
By default, it can be engaged/disengaged by pressing R3 or NUM5 while having a target selected.

By the sound of things, the new mode has potential too if you simply remove 66% of the people in it.

I only got into one 24 man so far but I still didn't like it.

I think it could work if they made it 24 man only and worked around that, while also giving us a tighter map for that many players with a lot of cover so melee have a chance to do things. Oh, and strip away 7x/23x Cometeor spam. :x

Regardless, I don't really know if Slaughter was needed. It feels like a mode created because they needed to toss PvPers something but didn't want to generate new assets.

the new pvp mode is shit. i just didn't have time to be dissappointed with it, since i'm busy with other things.

slaughter and hunts are the worst tasks in the game currently.

O-okay, day 4 so far, im a 28.When do I want to work towards Paladin?

Well you kinda are working towards paladin. In case that's a FFXI player question, Paladin and Gladiator are the same thing. When you unlock a job, you simply get a soul crystal that you equip on your Gladiator that restricts your cross class/gives you less slots and gives you paladin abilities. You're ultimately still a Gladiator(in fact a lot of stuff will mention you gain +x gladiator xp) and you can remove the crystal at any time, if for whatever crazy reason you'd want to.

If you mean working on the sub class stuff, well 30 is a good time since you need it to unlock. Get Conjurer to 15 and you're good to go. Might want to eventually level marauder a bit for cross class.

Okay, im a 28 still, almost 29. When I get to 30, I'll do that! :D

Okay, I've been mulling this over all week, and I figured it was about time to get people's thoughts on this.

If you're a Warrior, and you don't yet have the Final Coal Tank Gloves and coat, how difficult is it to get the crafted accessories and still meet the T13 Accuracy cap?

Exactly. I would rather switch to standard then locking on and having to press the button again to run away and dodge seeing as you move slow when locked on. I switch to standard when I play my Bard cause they auto attack from range anyways.

You could use the WoD one.

Also you should worry about clearing 12 before thinking about 13 right now.

I mean, just as easy as it was for people to meet it with i90 accessories except with more points now? Just meld some Accuracy / use the Fending earring + Slaying wrist.

I only listed the T13 coat because it's one of the biggest potential sources of accuracy available for Warriors, and also because I am planning to grab the WoD coat as soon as it falls.

Aaaaanyhow, the issue I'm having is that, despite how good these accessories are, I'm not sure I can even use them without making some major compromise somewhere else, like using ivlv110 equipment or something.

Also, they'll probably be entirely obsolete once the expansion hits. I can't imagine there won't be a whole new set of crafted accessories then. So I'm half inclined to finish gearing up miner or something, and then build up Gil for the expansion.

So, yeah, torn. I've gotta decide which option to go with.

At this point people are geared enough to where they don't even need crafted stuff. If you were going for early progression, then it was more viable, but now people should be fine enough with out it for the most part.

Well, the i90 accessories were apparently the accessories of choice for progression tanks, even into Final Coil. Buuut, for people that grabbed them early, they would have lasted for half a year. Since the expansion is maybe, three or four months away, there is a bit less bang for the buck there.

Wouldn't be a big issue if I generated Gil more quickly, which is why I'm considering gearing up miner a little first. The sealant market isn't gonna survive forever.

Pretty sure the tanks in my group didn't use crafted accessories. Only Punch had a couple left side crafted things. Crafted accessories were mainly used by me, Rin and qhon to survive the HP check.

To be fair, he did get an early i130 Slaying piece and bought the slaying poetics first. We just dealt with him having less HP than he could or non-optimal STR/VIT spread, depending on which was needed.

Edit: That said, I'm still confused at the base question on this. Like, the point of the crafted accessories is to get more HP with the DPS stats. It's easier to get to the Accuracy you need this way since you just meld for it as needed (and/or Accuracy food). You're not going after these pieces to be best DPS AND HP pieces at the same time, it's the nice middle-ground of the two options.

Suppose that's true.

Besides, the accessories themselves wouldn't be a big problem. I think after gearing my minor a bit and collaborting with friends I could get most the materials I need to have them crafted in a week or two.

The big problem would be materia, again. I've already sunk a few million in to determination four materia since patch, and that's just to get a start at maxing out determination on my Zodiac weapon. Even focusing on accuracy and vitality on crafted materia would get expensive really fast.

Still rather annoyed that they made it so much more difficult to get tier 4 materia all those months ago. They made an already expensive market all that much worse. :p

OT should use crafted i110 right side to be able to output more DPS while still maintaining enough HP (a bit over 10k in Defiance) to manage adds and Ahk Morn (or swaps in T12).

If you have enough i130 left side, you can go slaying i130 right side.

My point to him was that at this point if you've been gearing since 2.4 you don't need that stuff anymore.

When still working on progression, more DPS and/or more VIT is always a good thing.

Just makes things a bit easier.

Plus it's nice seeing our WAR almost out-dps our BRD on things like T10 :)

Makes it easier, sure but is not absolutely necessary to clear that content. If your WAR is almost out-DPSing your bard though, that's another problem entirely.
