Finally did some training on T13 yesterday, reached P2 kinda easily and we are now wiping because of the sphere panic (which I don't really find difficult, we will find our mark), really liking this fight so far.
Absolutely loving the ambiance, dat first music change, can't wait to reach the next one, it can't be more epic than that !

Why is it so hard to fin a good group I can clear Shiva with? I mean I've done Odin and Chrysalis pretty easily enough and I see a lot of PF's with people struggling on them, yet I can't get a decent group together for Shiva.

I want my weapon and Bracelet :(

oh wow, that's super nice of you. I might take you up on that offer some time :) what's your name in-game?

Are you on Ultros and in the GAF free company? Ask in the FC chat to see if people want to put a clear party together.

With the buffed pony drop rate I'm sure there are people out there that would be willing to clear Shiva EX a few times.

Part of the gear problem is it's not useful long enough. 6 months is too short and 3 months is too short for non-poverty raid stuff.

Cleared T12 last night! It feels like kind of a departure from T10 and T11, which both gradually layer persisting mechanics, in that half the mechanics it introduces get ditched permanently as soon as the corresponding phase is over. After doing those turns, you'd kind of expect something like Blackfire/Whitefire to show up during the little breaks you get in the last phase. Anyway, that's not intended as a criticism, just something I noticed. I don't want extra mechanics in the last phase.
Oddly, it didn't take us very long to get through T12 compared to the other turns. That's not really a brag given that we're not doing the fancy four-Bennu thing or anything, just working through it carefully. :V

In true FFXIV style, one of the pieces that dropped was for a class nobody in the group runs in Coil.

Also, not spoiling myself on the big reveal after T12 was totally worth it. That cutscene was awesome!
Too bad people left right after, though, didn't get to see the T13 intro. D;

Really? I think 6 months is plenty. The problem is that you're limited to 1 drop per week so the actual average time you'll have your top tier gear while it's relevant is much lower than 6 months.

In other news the weekend went really well for me as far as making gil goes. I made well over 5 million, almost on materia alone, by spiritbonding 5 sets at one time. With current prices it seemed like the best way to make money. It seems like it's winding down a bit now.

I also blew up 3 Control IV on the body meld and I still haven't gotten it, so fun.

It also seems like people finally figured out the item I was using to make GC seals, that I mentioned a few pages back.

It was the Mosshorn scale mail. It needs 2 mosshorrns a 157gil iron plate and only 1 ice crystal. When I started buying the mosshorns they were going for as low as 99 gil, I obliterated market up to 1000 gil, buying several hundred of them in a few weeks span. Now they are at 6500 gil, so I think now there are much better alternatives to get seals.

Also the 4* HQ material market was hot this weekend, I made a lot on that.

I have the moonstones for 1 lucis and have been doing the leves for the other mats. I want the WVR one, but the leves are by far the most expensive ones, so I think using GC seals might be a better option and those damn Cashmere Fleece are expensive.

Coil drops being entirely RNG reliant is what kills it. I don't have a single item from Turn 10 yet despite killing it every week since day 2 of 2.4. The only thing I have from 11 is a necklace that isn't any good. At this rate I'd be shocked if the things I still need drop before expansion.

Nah I'm on Odin Eu server. Thanks for the offer though. I don't necessarily need people to farm it with me now. Just let me get my first clear so I can join farm parties. I once asked a farm party if they'd let me in since I know the fight, and they said no. Never mind that exact same person hasn't done Odin because he can't dodge to save his life

Anyone have the explanation for what a point of Def/Mdef translates into in terms of actual impact? I'm trying to figure out if an effective ~5 DEX loss is worth it for a few VIT and a couple DEF/MDEF, factoring in that I like to stand in stupid. The numbers overall are probably so small it doesn't actually matter but I'm curious and random Google is not helping.

Hey, all. So what's the deal with choosing a GC? I know the basics but are there any specific convenience perks, like something to do with the GAF FC, or something else? Apparently PVP teams are divided by GC as well?

I would say the only time it'd matter is in T13, possibly, depending on your current values. Otherwise well it's not gonna make a big difference, most aoes are tuned 2 ways, they either kill you instantly regardless or they do a lot of damage but you're still left with 500+ and what kills you is a hit after that(or not being full), which I doubt 3-4pts of vit and a bit of mdef helps with. If it's on several pieces, maybe, but even then it still wouldn't matter if you're overgeared for the content you do(which if you're 120-130, is all the content).

I can't believe this lousy Bard loot luck still. It was kind of funny at first for a few weeks but now it's certainly something. I guess the saving grace of it is that a lot of poetics were really good options.

Personally, I'm of the mind that drops > currency gear should be true for almost everyone. The issue here is that there's not enough content dropping gear so it's left to basically 60% Coil / 40% Poetics or so since there's no other options.

Hunts are fucking awful now.
Just going to FATE my alex.

Also debating whether or not to throw on an HQ plat slaying earring on my PLD.
Not sure what people think of the plat accessories on tanks. I'm still playing catchup since I was all BRD till only like 2 weeks ago and Coil drops are like always... not dropping what I need.

I had a lot of near-deaths in WoD over the weekend, and a lot of deaths that I think were borderline (tanks spinning Angra followed by double Eyes on Me is all kinds of fun.) I've also historically had issues getting wrecked by the third Shiva AOE if I miss the first AOE heal, but it's generally close enough that a small change in HP and Def might eliminate it. Also I think I'm creeping up on being able to take a T5 Death Sentence to the face if I stand in a neurolink, which could be fun.

In practical terms, 5 DEX is pretty insignificant and meaningless too; I'm just trying to figure out the actual real world impact of defensive stats. VIT I can work out pretty easily.

No GC has an advantage over the other. Feel free to pick who you want...ideally if you want to play with friends in PvP, you have to join the same GC they are in.

Be safe North-East FFXIV GAF!

Shiva uses Diamond Dust

I think I mentioned this in the last OT, we have a running joke on the FC about primals and natural disasters.
A friend living in Florida had his house flood then burn down in the same year. Literally in Mumble when the fire started and it was Hold on guys I smell smoke?
Dat irl primal rage.

yes pvp is divided by GC, also they have different looking armor that is specific to each GC

Short answer: Choose your favourite colour.
Shortish answer: Choose your favourite city.
Medium answer: Choose the one with your favourite Hunt-related gear.
Long answer: Choose the side you want to be on in PVP. Additionally, the GC gear you can buy with seals is different between GCs, but it's much of a muchness when you're first levelling because you won't have the seals to buy it and make the expenditure worth it (it's more for secondary classes, I'd say), so it all comes out in the wash.

The problem for me now is everything I need left comes from Coil. The poetics alternative is just straight trash and I'm really hurting for accuracy.

And WoD isn't even an option as temporary solutions. We can continue to sacrifice things in the name of usable Bard loot (aka, pants) at least.

Well, yes, the more crit you have the more you will crit. There's some amount of Crit needed per 1% Crit. The issue is that raising base damage (Determ) or casting faster (Spell Speed) will be a larger overall damage gain since the crit multiplier is relatively low anyway.

As for math, this is basically the BLM Math Bible.

Yup, that link above. You can go over the whole thing as well but the main page sums it up for you nicely. 1 spell speed = .281 int. 1 det = .246 int. 1 crit = .234 int.

Now what you mention is, of course, true. The more crit you have, the more often, you will crit. The problem is, you need a whole ton of crit to even go up 1% and when crit rates are only falling between 15-20% to begin with, it's not much of an increase to what you've got going on. Now spell speed, which obviously allows us to cast faster and det, which allows us to cast harder, also does not have huge gains per point but both are more easily noticeable with small gains.

Hmmm... thanks for this. I'll need to digest this information. Though I don't know whether I'll be able to get over my obsession with the damage numbers in BIG WRITING with exclamation marks!! :)

So now that I'm on the path to Novus, I noticed there's some split point issue between the PLD Shield/Sword?

Some kind of stat cap between the two I should know about?

Nevermind seem to have found it...
Real PSA to paladins (for real this time): if you try to cap two "minor" stats (e.g. SS, Crit, Acc, Parry) on your Curtana and Holy Shield Novus, you will lose 1 stat point in the upgrade to Zodiac compared to all other jobs. The secondary stats will total 82 (i.e. a +7 Zodiac) instead of 83 (+8 Zodiac). The only way to avoid this is to cap Det or plan a three-stat Novus which hits the +8 caps. Specific recommendations forthcoming.

That's weird.

I suppose having to wait years for raid drops in FFXI has given me the patience to deal with not having MNK head and gloves drop from Final Coil and previously Second Coil. That slot machine loot!

Man, not sure how they expect the current lineup of content to last people 4 to 5 months. I mean, outside of Coil, there just isn't any real reason to gear beyond 110 armor and a 115 weapon. And of course, most the player base isn't doing Final Coil.

Don't get me wrong, they did a ton right with this patch. The main scenario was pretty good, Hildibrand is fun, WoD is an excellent collection of fights.

But, no Savage Coil, for high end players, and no new Extreme primals, for middle tier players such as myself.

The thing I like about PUG (haven't hit 30 yet) is how Greased Lightning means you are constantly ramping up in speed.

It feels good. Should be even better once I get the trait for the third stack.

The next time GAF is accused of an early hunt pull and the actual culprit is somebody from ZR or Kagari's husbando, tell them to take their beef to the race track. GAF racing team, get ready to dominate the server.

I just did WP with a WAR who kept turning Defiance off for each pull.

I don't mind new people and he stopped doing that after I told him, but I really wonder how does one reach level 50 in that state? Defiance is a level 30 ability, no one told him how to use it in 20 levels and 4-5 dungeons?

I'm starting to think something like unnerfed Pharos Sirius should be an obligatory step before any level 50 content.

Unnerfed Pharos Sirius, the Dark Souls of FFXIV.

Uh ... so he was a stance dancing? That sounds like a good tank, not a bad one.

Or was he just randomly turning Defiance off?

He had it off during pulls. Undergeared too (AF and mostly iLevel 30 rings, less HP than me without the stance), so he needed it.

Eh, I've had a lot of bad DF issues, but the worst one I could think of was the strangest. I ran Stone Vigil with some RPers. Like... hardcore RPers. As in they had a discussion after every pull. Apparently I was a merc or something to them. I kept relatively quiet till about after the first boss when I asked them if they could cut it shorter since were were going super long on the timer for each fight. They stopped talking all together but it was apparent they were still discussing things with their LS or FC shells or something. They'd stop mid DPS and I'd basically be left hitting the group.

Shit was bad, we cleared with less than 10 minutes on the timer and I got an earful about how they were debating kicking me before the last boss. I get people are all about the experience, I don't mind banter, but that was something else. I mean they'd just fullstop after every pull, or stop DPSing/healing mid battle to chat about what they were learning about the dragonkind. Was legitimately worried we wouldn't clear in time.

Right. It doesn't help either we already see a lot of junk repeats out of 10-12. My alt hasn't seen any of that stuff either. Just shit luck all around.
