Well, Fursquared (and my first con) is finally finished! It's been a long three days, but it was a blast.

Nepenthe, THANK YOU for including that convention in your draft. I would have not gone had you not put it on the schedule. I made some new friends, discovered some cool crafts, and now have an overwhelming urge to start designing a fursuit for next year. :)

One thing I couldn't help but notice was how kind and talented the community is. The con raised $15,000 for the local humane society, and nearly everyone did some sort of visual art or music. Seriously, I went to a panel on D&D, leatherworking, and creature design all in one afternoon. I even had to skip a couple things because the events overlapped.

Towards the end of the night, after a Mario Kart 8 tournament finished, I went with a couple guys to the puppy play panel. Now that was interesting. The room certainly looks different when you're on the floor growling and barking for some beef jerky. Yesterday was the first time I tried something like that, and it won't be the last by the looks of it. :3

Also, this fella at the hotel bar nailed the idea I was going for; ornate and realistic, and very Beauty and the Beast. Most of the costume is from a local renaissance fair. I saw him later with a t-shirt and jeans on, so it was modular to an extent. Making the suit be separate pieces (arms, head, feet, coat) seems easier to manage. Sketching my leopard right now.

Oh I went to that panel at MFF (different speakers but I'm assuming its something similar). It was very fun and super interesting to meet likeminded individuals! I even bought some gear for it a couple months ago. I'd be happy to chat with you about it sometime if you ever want.

As far as Bara art for references... hmm. I'm a fan of Chumbasket on FA. His reference sheets start at $200 though. I don't follow too many bara artists unfortunately.

Sure thing, I was vaguely aware of the puppy scene, but I didn't really know too much about it before last weekend. I heard something about moshes too? It sounds like fun to me. This is only tangentially related to furry, so we should probably take it to PMs.

Chumbasket is an interesting case, I like his headshots better than his finished paintings for whatever reason. He doesn't have too many examples of characters with clothing, but I'll shoot him a note. His characters are quite handsome.

Looking at today's "fictional crushes" thread, I feel kinda guilty that I didn't have a crush on Gadget as a kid (though she's cute as a button now). I remember watching the two Minerva Mink cartoons and recognizing that she was supposed to be sexy, but I don't remember her clicking with me. I wasn't attracted to Sally Acorn either.

Instead it was Fifi le Fume (who I found more sympathetic than her older male counterpart), Kit Mambo (who helped develop my "strong women" attraction as well), M'ress from Star Trek: TAS, and a bit of Lola Bunny (since I only saw Space Jam maybe twice.

My first crush was Yakko Warner from Animaniacs, swiftly followed by Sonic, Shadow, Silver, Knuckles and Sally Acorn all at the same time. I never really read too much into this and assumed I was straight for years up until last year when I started crushing hard on a gay furry I know IRL.

I didn't watch too much TV as a kid, so I couldn't come up with any real actors for that thread. But I did find myself oddly fascinated by these two guys.

Prior to Gadget there was also that blond Gummi Bear. Thundercats too.

The way TMS designed and animated Disney and WB characters compared to the other studios was like night and day. Tiny Toons:How I spent my vacation was one of the best movies I saw (Fume best character there too).
I admit that only Animaniacs character I liked was Rita, because there was a vast difference between her voice actress and the rest.

If TMS hadnt participated, they'd have lost half their charm, even though other studios got better plots. Thanks to TMS I got to like them.

Lola Bunny was ok too but something was missing. TMS had a ton of history with dramatic and comedic anime with furry animals. That certainly helped for more fleshed out animation and dramatization.

The fictional crush thread made me realize that I actually had a crush on quite a few actual people and not just anthromorphized cartoon characters as a kid. :p

As for anthro crushes as a kid, there were Shere Khan and Don Karnage in TaleSpin and Rita in Jungledyret Hugo. Yeah yeah, that's a bit of a weird one since she is basically just a fox with cartoon eyes and eyeliner, but something about her singing was attractive. Oh, and Nala in Lion King as well. Same reasons as with Rita.

heh, here's mine

and it led me to looking up weregarurumon fanart which led me to muscled weregarurumon fanart

and here we are now

Mine is kinda Digimon-related. Except kinda discovering it through the internet (first with Veemon) and "wondering if the show puts the characters in these types of situations" with a straight face, or something like that idk it's kinda fuzzy

Oh and Yoshi too!

Upon watching Arashi no Yoru Ni, I've had it at the back of my mind that my sona could be a goat. Then I see a YT Let's Player user with the name "Agoat," liking his style all the while. Next comes Undertale, and now I believe my mind has been made up.

My really really REALLY good online friend's sona is a (bishie/bara) wolf dude, so it comes full circle

honestly cartoonish looks never really got me

it's why even in the rescue rangers comic book series the one that got me was the buff as fuck turtle because he was a deviation from the typical style there

like this won't get me

Cartoons had to feature decent quality in my case.

There was an old anime called Age of Great Dinosaurs. Perhaps one of the most awesome and bloodthirsty Trex I saw. Same feeling when I read violent comics with dinosaurs.
I remember when I first read a Spiderman comic featuring Lizard as enemy,I felt the need to become a reptile too. It featured the late 80s more realistic design and had blood too. No blood,no fap.

On the other hand I couldnt stand the Turtles, except that female lizard and Usagi Yojimbo, during his cameo.

I remember I was the only kid on an empty cinema that watched Fievel goes West. Sequel was much better.

Just as I grew up on The Rescuers Down Under, Fievel goes West was my first American Tail experience

Yeah cartoony anthros could be fun. But I also came to appreciate the more naturalistic approach mainly
(again, thanks to my wolf husband who I may or may not show later)

I guess you could put me back to a thread backfire involving wanting to be a dragon here. Though I have been wishing I were one for quite a bit longer.

Usually I go with a dragon or a reptile.

by quality I mean the show itself of course, as you can see MK DoR is really low quality, but man they detailed Argath so well~

I don't have TMNT fondness, save maybe for triceratrons.

Hm... Thinking about it, I don't think I really had a TV crush as a kid, cartoon or otherwise.

Although if we're talking strictly about our origins with furry-ish stuff, I think my fascination started with my fondness of and sympathy for characters cast in a more monstrous/villainous role. We didn't have cable for years when I was a kid, so I think the first cartoon I ever saw was that episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog with the opera-singing hydra while staying at a motel. From then on I really liked the idea of misunderstood villains, so I tended to sympathize with characters who were more monstrous because of the association that bestial = bad.

Redwall was really weird. I loved the books initially but over time I saw something blatantly-uncomfortable in casting all the "vermin" as irredeemable villains (it helped that they were obviously the cooler species anyway :p). Especially in one later book where one vermin got singled out as "one of the good ones."

I always thought the Splicers from Batman Beyond were really cool. The base-level association that animal-person = bad seemed pretty nonsensical and hypocritical coming from a show about a guy dressing up like a bat who, himself, was cast as the villain for being an off-putting vigilante. There was also an episode about a rat-person who was a social outcast living in the sewers that I vaguely remember as making me really uncomfortable partially because I saw myself in the guy, who inevitably ended up being a cannibalistic psycho who needed to be put down by the episode's end.

Now that I'm catching up with the One-Punch Man manga, I think it's pretty funny how closely I align with Garou:

American Tail, I've almost forgotten about this film series, been a while. Those films were my everything when I was a kid. I liked the big cowardly cat.

Not nearly as good as The Secret of Nihm but still a fine film series.

There's a few films where I really wanted to see how it would end if the villain won, the last unicorn slain, the dinos enslaved and put in a zoo, the sheep takes over the wolves, etc. (won't name the films because spoilers ;)).

For me it's less like, "The evil guys should win." and more like, "The guys who are portrayed as the bad guys aren't always the bad guys." Courage was really eye-opening to me about that - half the time, the "monster of the week" was just someone who scared other people because of their appearance or oddball behaviors and who had their own valid emotions and struggles once all was said and done. It struck a cord with me as someone who always felt like an outsider in social situations due to my own anxiety and oddball tendencies.

It's the same sentiment that fuels a lot of the older (good) Tim Burton films. Or Beauty and the Beast. The "monster" isn't always irredeemable, or doesn't always act destructive because it wants to be. I think of John Gardner's Grendel, where the classical beast is portrayed as a nihilistic philosopher simply searching for his place in a world that only ever seeks to kill him out of fear... I think a lot of people can sympathize with that.

One-Punch Man Spoilers Befittingly, there's more to Garou than it first appears.

Watching Vinny stream BotW, it seems half of the chat explodes whenever Bird Husbando shows up. The other half favors the Zora folk.

Forget the bird, I wonder what Ganon looks like in that game. Always found him attractive. Long nose, broad chest, piercing eyes, ginger hair. :3

It's definitely an important lesson those films teach: Never judge a book by it's cover.

I get that. I never really felt misunderstood myself like that during my childhood. I mean, I was seen as a bit odd maybe since I spent more time with books than people but nobody told me or gave me looks because of that.

(As for the evil dudes winning in the end, I always was a fan of Choose Your Own Adventure types of stories (which unfortunately doesn't work in films or TV series) since I am always curious what would happen if the hero would fail to stop the villain.)

Hell yeah man, scalies represent!

lol Vinny's chat is notorious for being a den of trolls so take it with a grain of salt.

Personally, I think the
Lynels
have gone sorely under-appreciated.
They waited what, almost 25 years to make another appearance in a mainline Zelda game? Their new design is badass as hell, too

I understand it's hard to imagine snuggling with one, though, given their penchant for slicing.

Edit: Realized that might be a spoiler for some, especially so early since release.

why is the rito champ such a massive twink tho

kass = minstrel = big and jacked up
civilians = lean but muscular
rivali = champion = hahaha twink

rl parrot birbs are usually bigger than regular birbs

For me though I seem to be attracted to either slender or bulky. Not particularly anything in between

Edit: Also I took a pic of Kass's crotch when I first saw him
