Comparing the two directly, I agree. Comparing any game (that isn't TF2- as I have not played TF2 yet) in TOB to Bioshock and I'd still agree.

1. disgaea - Afterdood of Doodness (PSP)

its just drugs in umd form. And what a great great port - barely any noticeable loading / save times. A really top notch portable version of a fantastically deep game.

2. SMG (wii)

with nsmb and this, mario is back at the top of his game

3. gh III (PS3)

first gh for me, yeah so now i see why everyone goes on about it.

4. motorstorm (PS3)

i love this and don't really get all the negativity around it. (ok the loading screens piss me off too but the racing is really special, kind of an adult mario kart almost)

5. SKATE (PS3)

brilliant evolution of the genre. Shame the ps3 version made me carsick once and I've been a bit wary since :(

Still need to play Uncharted and goodness knows what else from this year though.

It was a shooter of the month year for the most part, but personally I judge GOTY on what has enough staying power to be played years from now. I went with SMG but I think SMG and Rock Band are interchangable, and would not have a problem with the unlikely scenario of Rock Band winning.

Edit: because apparently I can't spell odyssey. List stayed the same otherwise.

But dude, the 360 pushes a less horrifyingly shitty control compromise and stuff on you. But I guess that's a matter of preference anyway; dogshit covered strawberry or dogshit covered blueberry? One just has to be better!

I thought it'd be easy to pick 10, but in fact, it pains me to leave Bioshock, Fire Emblem and a few others off the list. And no portable games this year (haven't had time to devote to Zelda: PH yet). Great year! 2008 could be better, though.
