But then again, Live and Learn did come in 2nd...a bittersweet victory.

I have to admit, Live and Learn is much more catchy, while Open Your Heart has slightly awkward lyrics, but I took a liking to the latter due to the fact that it actually makes sense, and, in my opinion, has a better melody. Too bad..

I also don't get how the Sonic R games didn't win. Must be a popularity contest around here....

Hey guys...vote for Severing the Chains of Fate and Savato X7.

Vote for them in 1st and 2nd, or I will CUT YOU.

With a scalpel. In the shape of a pentagram.

*shudder* Ok, I take it back.

Youtube is weird for me too.

So undeserving. GHZ and EHZ are catchy but neither of them is even the best track from their respective games. CPZ is just extraordinarily overrated.

Just a reminder....Battle Theme 1 and Battle Theme EX are awesome too, so vote for those. Damn it, so many good songs! I just regret there isn't another Unlimited Saga song on the list.

No seriously, if any songs from Trauma Center or Unlimited Saga don't make the top 10..well, let's just say that ninjas will be arriving at your house to forcibly remove your gaming license.

Wait a tick. Didn't we already vote for Justice Ray Part 2 when it popped up under Segagaga?

Okay, I'm checking the last set for substitutions and couldn't help but notice that the World of Warcraft choices were chosen by what seems to be a very nostalgic Alliance player who picked a human character and apparently doesn't like actual songs.

So let's pick some actual tracks instead of little 1:00 tracks that play around with a couple instruments.

Legends of Azeroth (Login Screen)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqsazZUbt9s

A Call to Arms
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNVomngq-Qc

The Shaping of the World

Song of Elune
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhhvWeXHjP0

Lament of the Highborne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbO66QPIFlc

I'll let you guys pick from there.

I'm probably going to replace Sarah's VF1 theme with Jeffry's, but I haven't been able to find a link for the latter yet. I'll be uploading that myself, I guess.

I'm also thinking of cutting off entries for the late nominations sometime this weekend so that they're ready to go up on Monday.

Round 18

1. Super Smash Bros Brawl - Final Destination
2. Super Smash Bros Melee - Fountain of Dreams
3. Tales of the Abyss - Meaning of Birth
4. Sword of Mana - Battle 1
5. Super Smash Bros Melee - Opening
6. Tetris - Type 1
7. Super Smash Bros Melee - Temple
8. Super Smash Bros Brawl - Meta Knight's Revenge (from Kirby Super Star)
9. Tekken 2 - Yoshimitsu Theme
10. Super Street Fighter 2 - Guile's theme
11. Street Fighter 2 - Ken's Theme
12. Super Smash Bros Brawl - Ocarina of Time Medley (from Zelda:OoT)
13. Super Smash Bros - Final Destination
14. Super Smash Bros - Green Greens
15. Tetris Attack - Forest Theme
16. Tecmo Super Bowl - Intro Theme
17. Team Fortress 2 - Main Theme

Brawl's Final Destination and Melee's Fountain of Dream are no-brainers. Meaning of Birth was my happy discovering of the round. Sword of Mana, while not as good as the orginal Final Fantasy Adventure, has great music. I love it and you should too.

Some nominator did well by adding Tales of Symphonia's Theme heroic mix, but simultaneously FAILED hard by nominating the inferior Japanese version. Compare the bland Jpop Japanese opening and its Heroic Mix to the mighty American opening and its awesome Heroic Mix. Don't worry, boy and girls, I plan to fix this with my late nominations.

Round 19

1. Trauma Center: Second Opinion - Savato X7
2. Trauma Center 2 - Severing the Chains of Fate
3. Timesplitters 2 - Wild West
4. Viewtiful Joe - Standing Ovations
5. Total Annihilation - Brutal Battle
6. Total Annihilation - The March Unto Death
7. Unlimited SaGa - Battle Theme 1
8. Voodoo Vince - Voodoo Shop
9. Total Annihilation - Warpath
10. Unlimited SaGa - Battle Theme EX

Lots of decent songs in this round, but these 10 stand high above the rest of the crowd. Really only the top 4 I've heard of before, the rest were discoveries this round.

Late Nominations

1. Tales of Symphonia - American Opening
2. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Sad Monster
3. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles - Unite, Descent
4. Final Fantasy V - Prelude
5. Star Fox Assault - Star Wolf
6. Blue Dragon - The Land Shark is Coming!
7. Metroid II Return of Samus - SR388
8. Secret of Mana - Into the Thick of It
9. Kirby Air Ride - Checker Knights
10. Metal Slug 3 - Into the Void
Extra: Tales of Phantasia - Fighting of the Spirits
Extra 2: Secret of Evermore - Intro Credits (first song)

It was absolutely shameful The Prelude didn't get nominated before. Why FFV? Because it's the only FF game that 1) has the extended version and 2) doesn't already have three nominations. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was a fantastic game, deprived of the love it deserves by friend-less, GBA-less haters. It had stunning music too, especially its final boss themes. Vote for it. You owe me after giving the Mother series the shaft. DON'T BREAK MY HEART AGAIN, GAF!

I've been gathering mp3s of all of the finalists so far and have a question.

Is this song from Kingdom Hearts something that can be heard in-game or is it a soundtrack-only arrangement? There are several different versions of this song out there and I'm unfamiliar with the game.

Yeah, it's in the game. There's a sort of an intro/credits/attract mode kinda thing if you leave the title screen for a bit where it plays. I just double checked to make sure. You probably noticed the mixes that were in the actual intro and the final credits.

- To fill this round's "Sixfortyfive hates popular things" quotient: Emerald Hill and Chemical Plant suck. Sonic 2's soundtrack is by far the weakest of the original games and yet it seems to be the most-liked.

I'm a die hard genesis Sonic music appreciator and yet, I totally agree with this sentence. It's not like Sonic 2's music wasn't good, it's just not as awesome as the catchier tracks on its predecessor or as glorious as the wonder of Genesis sound that was Sonic 3 (+ Knuckles). Sonic CD JPN still blows everything out of the water that isn't Sonic 3 though. Also, dammit, Live & Learn. I like you and all but second fucking place? :lol

Not my favorite, but GAF could have done a lot worse. Every song from the Sonic top 10 is at least satisfactory.

Late nominations are going to end when I post this evening's update, so make sure to get those in if you haven't already.

9) Super Smash Bros - Green Greens (200)

2) Super Smash Bros Melee - Fountain of Dreams (303)

1) Tetris - Type 1 (322)

Complete results for round 18 can be found here.

- A little too much Smash Bros for my liking. I don't even like Tekken that much, but Moonlit Wilderness deserved better. Same for some of SF3's stuff.
- There was an unusually steep drop-off in points after the top 10. Only one other song had a chance of cracking the list.

Round 19 is still up and Round 20 has also been posted.

Also, LATE NOMINATIONS ARE OVER! Here are all of the submissions:

ZEALOUSD

Secret of Mana - Into the Thick of It
Kirby Air Ride - Checker Knights
Metal Slug 3 - Into the Void
-Tales of Phantasia - Fighting of the Spirits

SIXFORTYFIVE
F-Zero GX - Deathborn
Megaman 9 - Wily Machine
Sonic Adventure - Crazy Robo (E-101 Beta)
Toejam & Earl - Toejam Jammin'

I count 55 tracks total. I might just leave it at that instead of cutting them down to 50. The top 12 songs from the late set are going to advance to the finals instead of the usual 10, as I need a number divisible by 4.

I feel like I'm treading ground that has for the most part already been exhausted with my late nominations, but I'm having trouble coming up with anything at all that I didn't already nominate the first time around.

Also, I'm going to throw out another request for images to accompany each song in the top 200 in the final presentation. If you follow the link in the OP to Round 1's TOP 10, you'll see example title cards that I'm planning to use in a slideshow for these songs later. If you want to help, simply send me a PM with some clean (no text; I'll add labels myself) 640x480 (crop/pad/resize them yourself if you can) images to represent each of the songs that have placed in every round's top 10 so far. ZealousD and I already have the finalists from rounds 1 through 5 covered.

Actually, half the F-Zero GX OST would qualify for this. It's just that there were already 3 F-Zero GX tracks (which weren't any good) but I didn't want to push it.

I know late noms are over and all, but here are some other great ones:

Big Blue (alternate arranged version)

Not to mention all the track themes (Green plant, port town, lightning, fire field, etc.)

As well as half of the character themes, each of which have their own musical theme. (examples: Phoenix (Rock), Dr. Stewart (techno), Captain Falcon (alternative)

Also, best special movie ever.

1. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - Beyond the Bounds
2. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - BAHRAM Battleship
3. Xenosaga Episode 2 - Fatal Fight
4. World of Warcraft - Call to Arms
5. World of Warcraft - Stormwind Theme
6. Warcraft 2 - Orc 1
7. World of Warcraft - Legends of Azeroth
8. Xenosaga Episode 2 - Opening Theme
9. Wild Arms - Into the Wilderness
10. Virtua Fighter 5 - Temple (Kagemaru)
11. Zone of the Enders - Kiss me sunglights
12. Yoshi's Island - Athletic

Pretty quiet round that finished it all up. I had played ZOE2 and loved the music but I was hoping for better from the first game. Got a soft spot in my heart for the Warcraft stuff, although I think I underestimated the Stormwind theme.

First, the second last round. The overall quality was pretty good, I didn't expect that. There was a lack of real highlights though (except Turrican 2), but I already knew that. But what's good is that some stuff was pretty nice and surprised me a bit. Touhou 10, Enthusia, Top Gear, Troddlers, all games I hardly heard about but had all-around high-quality music, plus more. The set really deserves its full 20 places vote. Only the real peaks are missing.

The vote:
1. Turrican 2 (Amiga) - Intro
2. Touhou 10: Mountain of Faith - Native Faith
3. Enthusia: Professional Racing - AWAKENING ~Nürburgring Suite~
4. Top Gear - Track 4
5. The World Ends With You - Calling
6. Troddlers - Crossed
7. Unlimited SaGa - Battle Theme EX
8. Top Gear Rally - Jungle
9. Top Gear Rally - Menu
10. Troddlers - Quartet
11. Timesplitters 2 - Wild West
12. Trauma Center: Second Opinion - Savato X7
13. Timesplitters 2 - Neo Tokyo
14. The World Ends With You - Twister Remix
15. The World Ends With You - Three Minutes Clapping
16. Thunder Force 5 - The Justice Ray Part 2
17. Venus & Braves - Waltz for Ariah

To be honest, I don't pay much attention to other votes that much. I'm much more interested in recommendations for music that didn't make it in the nominations.

It was a coincidence, but this set's number 20. is higher than no. 20 of most other sets if that makes you happy. The lower places are much more close than the higher ones, too. I could've voted Battle Theme 1 at no. 8 and it wouldn't be too different for me. That's a general problem I'm facing and I'm also not too happy about it. It would've been better if people were rating the music instead of ordering it, IMHO but I know it'd be impractical.

I've listened to no 20 again and I think I could've rated it higher without problems

And finally the last regular set. Not as good as the last one but still okay, I guess. Both sets didn't have any real surprises for me, though. :( The Wild Arms Western flavoured song is great though, I heard it earlier on GAF. It accomplishes what Time Splitters from the last set didn't. I also liked ZOE music quite a lot in general, but just by listening you know so for sure, that it was a woman who composed it. :lol And I will also recommend Yie-Ar Kung Fu which I nominated. Seldom enough that an 8-bit tune doesn't get out of your head.

Here's the vote:
1. Wild Arms - Into the Wilderness
2. Wild Arms 3 - Fate Breaker
3. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner - Beyond the Bounds
4. Yie Ar Kung Fu (NES) - Main theme
5. Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune - Stream of Tears
6. Xenosaga Episode 2 - Fatal Fight
7. Xenogears - Balto
8. Zone of the Enders - Kiss me sunglights
9. Zone of the Enders - Intro and Beginning
10. Xenosaga Episode 2 - Communication Breakdown

19. Virtua Fighter 4 - Blue Impact
20. Zombies Ate My Neighbours - Pyramid of Fear

I've been giving all of the finalists another listen, as I'm doing my best at clipping each of them down to a representative 30-second sample to be used later. I'm about 40 tracks in so far. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the selections. It's enjoyable to review what we've done up to this point.

There are a few things that stick out to me upon a second examination, though. Chrono Trigger's two entries must assuredly be here because of their association with in-game events, as neither of them are that impressive on their own merits. I'm also not sure how anybody could prefer the original version of Stickerbush Symphony over the Brawl version, but whatever. It's still deserving, I think.

I think I had Baba Yetu on loop for about 10 minutes before I finally decided to force myself to the next track. God that shit is catchy. Eternity has also grown on me somewhat.

Wow, that's a lot of work. Kudos for your effort.

I enjoyed the whole project very much so far. I can't believe I've listened to 1000 themes. Though I wish there were more, I catched a nice set of cream of the crop music I didn't know before. I think there were about 10 of them or even more. The first half of the sets was more impressive, I think. But the other one was not bad at all as well. Now on to the last nominations.

On Chrono Trigger, I think To Far Away Times is deserving. I'm pretty sure Corridors of Time is just a simple dungeon theme though. I probably would have chosen the Main Theme over it. I think that we probably would have suggested substitutions had it appeared later in the contest.

As for Stickerbush, I personally prefer the original, but they're wholly different beasts to be honest. The original is much more of a mellow, relaxing atmospheric track while the Brawl remix is much more of an action piece.

If I could re-vote I would put Turrican higher. I forgot about it, basically. What I dislike about this is that you can't change your vote once it's in.

What I always did was basically go through the list and put a check mark if the song seemed catchy enough to deserve a vote. After hitting all the check marks, I basically went back through every song I checked individually and decided where to place them, although I'd just pick out a few select samples to remind me of the overall quality of the song. I sort of "abused" the continue button so I could be absolutely happy with my placements.
