Wow, wow, wow, what?
Yeah dude. Evilore totally got a bunch of free shit for his.
Wow, wow, wow, what?
I hope this thread is archived. So much comedy gold!
I too enjoy reading gaming news (Steve Bauman for example is highly respected imo, as is Brian Crecente), however it's actual news that comes from actual credible journalists who have more than 'gaming' under their belt.
Here's how you can tell a good journalist from a "video game journalist":
- Their list of credentials involve more than gaming websites and blogs.
- They actually studied journalism.
- ???
- Actually, that's pretty much it.
Well I always felt like gaming journalism became a joke with the release of 360/PS3. The last nail in the coffin for me was the PS3 Skyrim bullshit. I remember back in the day when I had my PS2 and I had a monthly subscription to PSM (unofficial PlayStation magazine). Those group of guys have integrity and gave honest opinions and would provide factual information on a game to support their claims. Everyone magazine was a really enjoyable read.
Now everything is just a orgy of hype or PR bullshit. it is shit like this that makes me exclusively just read NeoGaf.
She wrote a post saying Korina got her free games and gave her passes to game conventions when she was with Ubisoft and is now at SE hmmmmmm
I'm too stupid to get the image to work directly but its the last one in this post. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=43602594&postcount=1247
and this.

Well its safe to say any chance of a serious journalism career is over but on the plus side threatening a publication to change a feature and getting a writer fired ....... she has a future in gaming PR.
Also the MGS4 OT was great and had a lot of work put into it. Some people from Koji Pro where on gaf at the time and probably just wanted to thank the guy. I don't see the shady part since its just a fan being a fan but I do think it was a good move for gaf to move away from the 7 post long monster OP's.
I don't think the OT stuff is really a big deal. I mean, OTs have never really been critical have they? They are already sort of fundamentally as much as an advertisement as the reader wants it to be.
Ugh, this seems so overblown being that he does not review games.
That is why we have to talk. Finally And now, share some ice
Gotta love the occasional "this is old news" comment.why people act like this is news or something?
this is as old at the medium
i cant tell horror stories about the spanish gaming press since 1986 xD this is just the peak or the iceberg
I think its super sad really.
Ok just caught up with Rab's tweets..
EuroGamer, when Squeenix and Wainright have fully backed down once they realise they are only anally PRaping themselves by leaning on you, please reinstate Rab immediately!
Absolute disgrace.
yuck.
I didn't know OT makers got free swag....that's....weird.
The image really, truly is hilarious, and very telling. Rab Florence wrote a solid article but nothing even necessarily had to be written about it. The image completely speaks for itself.

For those interested in Klout and sites like it...
There is a growing (and now strong) movement in marketing to find Influencers. Influencers are those that have large twitter followings, popular blog posts, etc. within a given field. Companies of all fields find these Influencers and offer them hard or soft bribes and incentives to cover their products and services.
Influencers and such marketing are taken advantage of in everything you read. Your innocence is now lost.

Just because you've studied journalism doesn't make you good at it, or even reliable. The entirety of journalism has tons of people who fit that list and still make crap articles. Oh, and it's sad that people think that starting off in a non-journalism place makes you any more legitimate.
I'm all for burning liars at the stakes and stuff, but let's not bash every gaming journalist just because a few of them ruined it for the rest.

yikes.
What's the score on the eurogamer dude? Please tell me he has his job back
If they were leaned on I hope someone leaks how
Oh I agree that users should be making them. I was just talking about the idea that some people have gotten free stuff out of it. As long as an OT is an OT, I don't really see much room for manipulation.Repost of my opinion:
I'd always go with the user OT's. Publishers making an OT will result in nothing but advertisement. I dont know about you, but I consider "advertisement" and "enthusiasm" two entirely different things. This also raises the question which GAF user impressions in those threads will be bought, which ultimately, are the ones you want to believe in.
Nono situation.
Its not about how he said it, its about his connections and that there are interest groups behind him that are interested in buying user posts.
Oh, nevermind then lol. Or, a mod should just be able to do that regardless...right?When the game was fundamentally broken (online) they refused to have a mod change the thread title to reflect this. Despite people (SmokyDave for one) entering the thread complaining of the game being broken, long after those wo bought day 1 had realised.

This has been going on since the early days of MTV. Frontline did a great story on it called The Merchants of Cool. They actually talked about it on the Brodeo a couple of times.
Well surely not having studied is completely necessary, but it does give you a basic idea of the theory behind proper journalism as well as covers ETHICS indepth, which is something that is sorely lacking from gaming media nowadays.
I can't find Mountain Dew flavored Doritos anywhere. Product placement fail.
Have a Mountain Dew flavored Dorito cupcake.
Doesn't mean that person will apply such knowledge. I'm sure people know not to do the wrong things, because most of it is common sense. Many of the people in my classes don't give a fuck about ethics, and they are getting internships left and right.
The real world ain't so nice.
Wait, people keep saying he was fired.
Didn't he quit?
you only need to follow people on the gamin press who started on some magazines an ended as pr on every company
there is a lot more, but that is a nice example
well you got now sites like ALFA BETA JUEGA on the spanish xbox dashboard,a new site who comes out of nowhere,it you do some detective work you can see the people who funded the site have strong relationship with pr from a lot of companies, every day they have some awesome contest with prices from ubi,ea,microsoft, etc
you got people like lidia lidia pitzalis (ms spain) courting every journo she can to do some shamefull promo videos for games like halo4,etc etc
brian crecente...respected? whaaaaa ? he is one of the worst, kotaku was the pinnacle for all this bullshit
Crecente was an award-winning police reporter for 11 years at three major dailies in Texas, Florida and Colorado where he covered everything from daily crime and wild fires to the contested presidential election and serial killers. Besides covering video gaming for the Rocky and Kotaku, Crecente currently writes pieces for Playboy Magazine, Stuff Magazine, 360 Magazine and his personal blog, Red Assed Baboon.

So given that people who study journalism have actually been exposed to proper ethics and etiquette knowledge, it's now easier to separate the lame lambs from the sheep. One can claim ignorance when they fail at applying ethics and the other KNEW what they were doing and is a shitlord as a consequence.
Oh wow, he even got finished off with a duckroll/EviLore double dropkick
You can't claim ignorance when you are working with a huge publication, have the access of the internet, and can talk with other people in the business.
What he's done with Kotaku pales in comparison to his other achievements.
I think the polite way of saying what happened was he was asked to step down.
He probably didn't have much choice in the matter.
Robert Florence ‏@robertflorence
I'm sure you understand that, with it being amended, I have to step down from doing the columns. Thanks if you ever read any of them.
Where is that info coming from, speculation? Because it sure seems from this tweet that he voluntarily stepped down due to his ethical feelings:
I'm pretty sure an editor approved his article before he posted, and nothing in the article deems being fired over. Unless someone shows me where it says anywhere he was forced out, I'm going by his tweet.
Looks like he quit, and wasn't fired. That doesn't change much, but still it seems like people keep posting that his article got him fired.. that doesn't seem true.
Doesn't Lauren Wainwright post here? Should we not be supporting fellow gaffers?
