Kinda surprised at the reactions in this thread, to be honest. I played TLoU, it was pretty decent and will probably get a GotY nomination from me on gaf.
But
They really didn't do much interesting, especially from a gameplay standpoint. It basically follows the Half-Life model (mentioned this before) shrunk down to be more low-brow, mass market. And the narrative that gets so much praise is essentially a refined implementation of the way Uncharted told its story. As in, light gameplay while characters interact for some of the lower key stuff, while key plot points are delivered through cutscenes. I can think of only one/two times where they really transcend beyond that. Not that the plot/character development weren't good (they were), but the way it was told wasn't as unique as tends to be made out.
In other words, I don't have a problem with the Zelda pick, and I think people should take a step back when assessing TLoU and GTA.
