Games for Windows Live will be discontinued on July 1, 2014. Although it is available through Steam, Age of Empires Online requires features of the Games for Windows Live service. You can continue to enjoy all the features of Age of Empires Online as the service will remain 100% operational until July 1, 2014 when the server will shut down. Please visit the Age of Empires Online forums for additional details.

Does this only apply to AEO Online, or does this mean GFWL will shut down completely next year?
Probably the latter. Goodbye, Dirt3 DLC, Viva Pinata and Minerva's Den.

I have quite a few unplayed GFWL titles on my shelf, bummer.
Guess what i'm doing before christmas.
But what about Fallout 3??
Throwing them in the trash.
I can't believe they'll be shutting down gfwl this soon. is it that hard to keep the activation servers running for those that previously bought games. It had to be aoe online that is closing.
So this is Microsoft's vision of a digital only future? That's pretty bad.
Sony's made strides to keep content accessible from PSP to Vita, and for some PS3 games to be crossbuy on Vita, and we still don't know what they plan to fully do with PS4 but some form of BC seems to be in the cards, and while Nintendo FUBARed their account system they still actually had a system in place to fully transfer Wii purchases to Wii U. Don Mattrick had been completely flippant about BC and Microsoft looks to be more than happy to unceremoniously drop old services, so of the three I'm most pessimistic about them. No, it's the corpse of the first one.
That's not to say the new one doesn't take after its parent much, but time will tell.

What is this?
I have very little confidence that my Xbox 360 DLC will still be available for download after they discontinue the 360.
Oh shit I better hurry and finish Dark Souls! D:

That link has changed. Doesn't mention anything about GFWL or AOE Online closing.

Download FOSE or a mod to remove the requirement. But what about Fallout 3??
So I guess today is the day. Looks like it's going out not with a bang, but a whimper.
LOL
What is this?
so I opened up the GFWL marketplace to see if there was anything I want to download
Apparently I bought a bunch of shit from Game Room at some point? Probably using Bing points.
I don't even remember what was in Game Room at this point.

If you downloaded the free demos they were permanently added to your game list. I was pissed when I downloaded the demos and they were permanently added to my game list.so I opened up the GFWL marketplace to see if there was anything I want to download

Hey stump, why don't you try opening GFWL marketplace to see if there's anything you want to download?
Good idea, stump
"You must install Windows Live Sign-in Assistant"
OK, I'm not sure why, but I'll install that. Whatever.
*installs*
Hey that's weird.
*googles*
Two possible causes:
1) GFWL does not support two-factor auth and blocks you from using it! Boy I love GFWL!
2) GFWL apparently chokes on passwords with non-alphanumeric characters even when the same passwords work for other Live tools. Boy I love GFWL!

PC webstore is still up, despite it being the 23rd here on the east coast, lol.
EDIT: Wait a minute, now it says they are closing the store on August 25th.
As part of the recent Xbox 360 system update, Microsoft Points will be retired and the Xbox.com PC Marketplace will be closed as of August 25, 2013. We encourage you to spend your Microsoft Points balance prior to this change. Although you will not be able to purchase new games, you can continue to enjoy previously purchased content by downloading it through the Games for Windows Live client software as usual.
I guess they changed it?
lol dam gfwl doesnt want to die without a fight.Apparently, the date of closing the web store was silently pushed back? Reposting from other thread.
