huh? Why? Lion King is excellent. It's not like girls are immune to quality. And Scar is an incredible villain.

Well I gotta agree, Lion King is my favourite Disney movie too.
But you know, the whole "following the dead father's steps, not being able to at the first time but then coming out when nobody expected that to save everyone" is what makes (to me) the movie so great.

I thought it would be harder for a girl to identify herself in Simba.

Obviously I ALWAYS cry at the stampede, actually I usually cry from beginning to Timon & Pumbaa just to start crying again randomly later.

I don't have to identify with the lead character of a movie to like it.

Hold the fuck up, you're 20 and were able to afford a D-28 Marquis?

Have we already discussed the generic "What's you're favorite Disney movie" question ladies?
Probably Aladdin and Mulan. I loved most of the songs.

Beauty & The Beast is also up there.

Good point.

Now I'll gtfo. Please stop talking about interesting topics. Sincerely, boy

EDIT: running away because as the mods said, it's ok to post but this is pretty much your space. I waited so long for the activation, now I'm verrrry careful :D

I think I could still relate to that. :) A lot of the themes revolving around taking care of your family and duty/responsibilities are prevalent in my culture. Staying true to yourself etc.

And yeah, for me the soundtrack is one of the biggest tearjerkers. Oh lawd.

Anyone seeing it in 3D this weekend?

Also, I watched the Beauty and the Beast Bluray and was like wtf. Not a fan of the super-bright, effed up colours and too-strongly-outlined cels in Disney's bluray animations.

Guess I'll ask again: Girl-GAF, what makes you like a female character aside from realistic body proportions?
I could have sworn you posted too. Guess it was deleted somehow! xD
I was going to try to respond to it but it went into the void.

Everyone's answer is going to be different, but this is what *I* like when it comes to female characters (videogame or not):

LIKES
- I like ladies who are strong-willed, skilled in kick-buttery, and shoulder responsibility well, and don't break down and cry when challenged -- general integrity
- Design and costume design that is not completely stupid. Not a fan of bikinis as armor and super exposed butts and boobery and crazy heels -- aesthetically not just made for wanking
- Intelligent in some way (they don't have to be brilliant, but super naive types tick me off), plus points if witty and adventurous -- doesn't need to be led around and escorted

DISLIKES
- I dislike needy whiners, especially those obsessed with men, or that seem to be pandering to the audience for sympathy by being simpering, woeful, defenseless, fools -- useless
- I have a special brand of dislike for conceited ladies that are really stupid, naive, and ignorant and are PROUD of it (I will list Qara from Neverwinter Nights 2 as an example. lol) -- worse than useless
- put on a pedestal for their desirability, specialness, and "purity" (which translates pretty much to naivite and weakness) -- useless trophies
- overly cutesy or babyish mannerisms -- ergh..
- As stated above, terrible costume design with exposed everything or crazy heels in fighting situations

I liked Mulan okay, but I guess I wanted it to be a BIT more like those Chinese drama with all the magic and crazy swordfighting and badassery. Is it too much to ask for Disney to have more actual fantasy and magic powers shooting around in their movies? >_> Like Avatar: The Last Airbender, but with songs!

Smart, kickass, strong willed, but not Mary-Sue.

For non guitar people:

1. I buy used or trade for all my gear.
2. $4300 is MAP. If I DID buy new it'd only be in the mid $3000 range because only dopes buy at full MAP. There's list. MAP and what dealers actually sell things for. Dealers have a lot of wiggle room on Martins. Some of the boutique brands not so much. Collings for example has a strict 10% off list policy on all their guitars so that dealers don't engage in price wars with their products and devalue the brand.
3. I don't have that guitar anymore.

The guitar that replaced it is identical to this

Your post did get deleted. In addition to references to your favorite Soul Calibur girl, we are trying to avoid having this thread become "ask girl gaf" -- that point was made clear repeatedly in several posts above yours. In addition, if you think your post has been deleted, it's probably not a good idea to repost it. With that said, don't think I'm criticizing you heavily here, Plywood; your post was not particularly offensive, it's just very difficult to keep these sorts of threads on track in an environment like NeoGAF.

This is the last warning (for everyone). Please try to keep this thread about things girls are interested in, and preferably mostly with girls posting. If this thread is ultimately locked, I apologize: please know that it isn't because girls aren't allowed on GAF, it's because boys can't leave you alone. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me or another moderator.

I wouldn't mind asking a question like that since it's relevant to discussion. Maybe the mods should go more by what we want? Rather than assume? Some questions aren't obvious "help me with dating", I think those are fine.

I was definitely getting tired of the "ask selection of girls on GAF for what every female on the planet thinks and feels about x" questions. That's why I quit posting in the last thread we had. But I'm not the only one here, so whatever everyone else wants is fine.

Fair enough, just curious as a lot of the stuff you posted in the gear thread is some serious hardware that I'm incredibly envious of.

Getting off-topic here so I'll leave it at that, enjoy your thread ladies.

Apologies then, I guess I should add some more context to the question. I asked that because I was curious in that I wanted to see if any of the female characters in any of the stuff that I've written came up as a negative or positive for what a woman looks for in a female character because I often see woman complain about female characters and there lack of proper presentation. I'm glad to see so far (from the two ladies that responded) that none of the characters have come up as a negative yet.

I'll completely understand if you want to delete this post and my previous post if you feel it is bogging the thread down. I don't want Girl-GAF to lose there thread because of me.

I think it comes down to guys not understanding that girls do not all think/act the same.

My main objection to his post was the part where he said who he thought the hottest soul calibur girl is. Again, not a big deal -- in fact, most of these posts are not by themselves objectionable, but rather, are objectionable in aggregate. That's why nobody is banned and, again, I'm not saying Plywood's post is particularly bad.

Regardless, absolutely, what you want comes first in a thread like this.

I agree that all of the "asking girl gaf for dating advice" gets old, I actively avoid those discussions, and I think a big reason why this thread has lasted as long as it has is thanks in part to the deletion of certain posts meant to derail or mock this thread. So, thank you mods.

Whoa, whoa, I said Hilde was one of the best designs, not that she was the hottest. I genuinely think she has a very well made out design and it's easily the least sexual of the SC female cast.

Yeah, I mean technically he was asking us a question but it was relevant to our discussion about video game heroines.

Let's just discuss this further in PMs. Again, no offense was intended, Plywood. Almost all of these questions are innocent enough, it only becomes a problem when the questioners outnumber the answerers 10 to 1, and that is exactly what has happened in older girl-GAF threads.

Which is why I thought it was perfectly okay, but I can understand the "we don't want this thread flooded with questions pov as well.

Jem was awesome.

I was blown away when someone told me it comes on TV now (don't watch TV/haven't had cable in years). It wasn't even on TV when I was little, we would just get these tapes from Blockbuster, haha.

Stormer > basically everyone, so agree. So excited for the full series DVD release coming up.

For all the focus on girly fashion and whatever, I still think Jem is one of the better girl-oriented cartoons. Granted, Jerrica's boyfriend was a potted-plant kicking jerk, but the woman managed to be a rock star, raise orphans, and run a record label.

It's showtime Synergy!

My parents are pretty cool, but something about Jem really offended them, and they wouldn't let me watch her show or have a Jem doll when I was younger. So strange. Have been catching up on youtube and the show is AMAZING. Rio LOL.

But why even accept the friend request? I usually never add anyone I haven't met at least once.

Oh no, these are people I do know. Generally I have one class with them at uni or something, so if I deleted them they'd probably get uppity at me when I saw them. But I have to be a ninja on facebook now if I need to check something. I ONLY talk to people on facebook if I need to ask them something/ invite them to something etc. Its just weird that these couple of guys come on and go "oh hi. how are you? hows your weekend going?" when I don't really know them and no one else talks to me without a reason like that.

Faking orgasms: I can't do it. Muscles contract or something? My boyfriend can tell the difference.

Skinny guys: YES! Way prefer skinny guys. Skinny muscular guys are the best ;)

Tomboy: Never been a Tomboy, but some how I ended up hanging out in a group only with guys through grade 11 and 12.

Age: 18, but I'll be 19 in a few weeks!

Favourite disney princess: Mulan. Does she count? Now she was a strong female lead. Also it had the best music.

I kinda feel like a terrible person because I enjoyed Alladin but really REALLY hated "a whole new world". Everyone always talks about how romantic it is. I just thought "boring! Bring on 'never had a friend like me'!"

I never got to watch Jem as a kid, I don't think! Sad.. I always missed it.

But I always knew it was cool. It really looks like anime to me (maybe because all well-animated things like openings back then seemed to be animated in Asia.. haha)

wishful thinking, but i hope retro gets to have a solid take on a zelda game starring sheik someday

if worst comes to worst, at least the level design would be ace

I agree, it was a bit awkward when guys started asking questions like "size or girth" etc. The last girl-gaf topic didn't have that problem though, it was mostly girls posting and talking about girl stuff like... periods and pads and what not, helped keep the trolls and guys that were asking stupid questions out of the topic though. :D

OMG The Rainbow Brite movie. We watched that in college a bunch. We were going to build a season clock before we realized how hard that would be. THERES WORK TO DOOOOO!

Thats gotta be on youtube. I don't know why I got so excited about Rainbow Brite.

EDIT: Fucking found it. Awesome. You have no clue how awesome this is when you're wasted as shit. http://youtu.be/zPRWuegS8l8 At 1:53 we quoted that guy so hard. His voice is so hilarious. And the season clock at 2:30! This completely made my day.

Anyone ever cut off a bunch of hair after having it long for a long time?

I did this recently and it feels amazing. Though, it took me a while to convince the boyfriend to be cool with it, but he digs it now though so it wasn't really a huge deal. It did seem like everyone else was way more attached to my hair than I was. Even my sister was asking me why I'd want to cut it so short. I guess there was a hint of that "look like a boy" fear, but I never thought it would be a problem. I guess it's because a lot of people attach femininity to long hair? I feel way more feminine now than I did with my hair at its previous length. Mostly because I feel I look much cuter/spunky than I did before.

I want to do it but everybody keeps telling me not to... I don't want to go too short, maybe just bellow the shoulders or a tiny bit longer than that as opposed to up to my boobs length. I like long hair but it is such a hassle to take care of.

Yup, did it when I was in undergrad.

Donated my waist-length locks to a Cancer wig charity, and have sported an approximate shoulder-length do of varying styles ever since. I like it better this way.

If you can stomach it, do it. The worst that can happen is you don't like the style - but then, hair grows.

Yep however I always had short hair, then totally killed it by dyeing it over and over. Had to grow it out completely and just let it grow long. Cutting off so much hair was like liberation.
