No reason flats wouldn't work with a fretless, I don't think. Not a bassist, but I do have a guitar with flats.

They do feel really strange- like a snake covered in graphite. I am not really tripping balls.

They feel like silk, make it ridiculously easy to move all over the neck, and change the feel and tone. It's honestly a hard thing to describe, but it's too good.

I play a Fender Precision with frets, so can't really say how it would work on a fretless.

Remember to re-intonate if you switch from a plain to a wound third. On the plus side, if your strat has vintage-style pickups the third string will now sound in balance instead of too loud.

Sounds lovely— surprised at how good it sounds finger picked, I associate dreads so much with flat picking.

My two favourite acoustics are a Martin 000-28EC and a 14-fret OOO or OM that also had a V-neck (like the EC) but was $1000 cheaper. Third favourite is the Eastman OM I actually own, so I feel pretty lucky.

While I love other people playing Taylors, I've yet to pick one up that sounded/felt right to me.

I went with the D'Addario Chromes Bass Guitar Strings on Medium.
They cost a few bucks more at Guitar Center if you want them sooner.

yeah, this guitar is very very powerful and has bell like highs. adi top needed a few years to break in but it's much better now than when first brought.
i prefer martins too. i actually brought an eastman before going all out on this martin, (it had 2 knots in in the back so i returned it, brought blind online)
i'm ok w/ taylor bc of the neck is so nice on pre 2001 models. after that, the necks were no longer hand carved and became much thicker. the bracing on the taylors became thicker which made the guitar was more durable but killed the sound.

that's what makes eastmans sound so good, they're made so thin. post up your eastman OM if you ever get a chance =)

oh no! i'm not sure all the terms, i wanted to keep up to date. lol

i was about to pick up an american deluxe tele during blk friday but held out bc i don't know how to play electric yet... but i heard some prefer the broadcaster pickups on the american standard. i guess people want the humming noise.

Just got my Chapman Guitars ML-1 Norseman. It looks epic (and very heavy).

Annoyingly I had to go straight to work so no time to play but I'm certainly impressed with the build. Just £508, nearly £100 cheaper than if I had bought it here in the UK. Crazy!

It is very pretty and very, very heavy. As it has a solid mahogany body it weighs quite a bit. It's heavier than my Les Paul Studio. But after playing it the guitar does have a warm, almost dark tone. You can coil tap to split the humbuckers which adds a bit of variety but it's still a pretty warm and solid sound. The Floyd Rose is great as usual and the guitar was pretty much in tune and the string height just about right.
The neck is just about right for me. Not too flat. And its width is good too, nice and comfortable. For the price it's an exceptional guitar. Even if it were £800 I'd say it was good value. A good buy.

Even though we got it a couple days ago, here's the new amp. I have to say, it sounds amazing. It does really nice clean sounds all the way to heavy distortion. Each of the two channels has three settings and they do make a good difference.

Although when I have the EQ off, and I use my LTD, it doesn't sound that great, but once I turn the EQ on, it sounds crazy good. Maybe its the active pickups, as every other guitar we have has passive pickups, I don't know.

It doesn't really matter, because it's amazing and I regret nothing.

Congrats on the new amp! Is the cabinet also new? I love Boogie amps. Did you find that it had a steep learning curve with all the discrete channel settings, or was it still pretty easy to learn to use?

Its really easy to use, it doesn't take long for me to find the sound I'm looking for. Both amp and cab are new. I ended up paying for the cab and my dad paid for the amp.

One day I'll get myself a good high class amp, but I'm happy with my Hughes and Kettner 18w Tubemeister and Bugera V22 for now.

They are supposed to be pretty good. I have a PRS SE 24 Floyd Rose which is pretty good. As always go to a store and play with one. If it feels nice go for it.

If I had $500 for a new guitar I would probably get a Squier Jazzmaster or '72 Tele Thinline and pocket the difference.

I've got a SE Custom 24 that I really like, too. It plays and sounds better than a lot of guitars for that price I think. You may be able to get an Epiphone Les Paul style, too, in that price range.

I've got a Zach Myers SE which is very similar and it's a fantastic guitar... the PRS SE line are well made with decent hardware and exacting attention to detail, ime, and the stock SE 245 pickups are very good (although I did replace mine with a set of Burstbuckers I had around the house, but I really didn't need to)... Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with any PRS, really...

Wow, thats a lot. You guys must get shafted when it comes mesa/boogie stuff. In the US, that amp retails for $1399.

Then again, I didn't pay for it. I got lucky because my dad wanted a new amp as well. Originally I was looking at the peavey 6505mh or maybe a panama shaman, which is more affordable., as I could get an amp and cab for under $1000.

I have a TronicalTune set for a six-in-line Fender-style. I think they're great. I love being able to jump into Drop-D, Open-G, etc. on the fly and back easily. A lot of players hate on them. I guess if you have perfect pitch and tune by ear, in all possible tunings, it's worthless to you, but otherwise I think people are using some kind of electronic device to tune their guitars and this is just an automatic version of that. I find they work perfectly well, but I also tune in a quiet home setting; I've heard complaints they can get "confused" playing live. The latest version is supposedly better and faster, but a lot of the ones on the secondary-market are dumped from the 2015 Gibsons that so many people hated. It can easily be removed and doesn't alter your headstock at all. If you can get it cheap, it's a nice experiment.
