I think H2 was the hardest game on legendary. the drones and some parts of the game (e.g. when you are beamed to High Charity and have to kill those enemy waves without much ammo, or the parts with jackal snipers) are extreme though.Ok, am I the only one that thinks that in terms of difficulty Halo4 and Halo CE are the hardests? I completed every game in legendary less Halo4 (I just couldn't, that thing is impossible) and Halo CE was much harder than Halo2/3/Reach/ODST. Crap, I spent like 1 hour just to pass the first room where you get the pistol. That thing is hard as crap.
And I completed Gears of War in Hardcore, spent 3 hours on that final boss.
Once the watchers and crawlers are dead, the knights cant do anything. Just run straight towards them and pump your automatic fire rifles into them (like the AR), since harming them with single shot / burst fire Weapons is really hard.No way was Halo 4 the easiest on legendary. The fucking Promethean knights were essentially invincible.
I'd say Halo 3 is the easiest.

Does anyone think maybe if the Halo Masterchief edition is real that it is not the giant leap they are talking about?
"Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a “journey,” rather than a destination – and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step. We’ll give you much more information about our plans for this year at the Xbox E3 2014 Media Briefing on June 9, and we’re confident that “Halo” fans will be pretty excited about the special plans we have in store."
Oh god I hate that weapon so much...The problem I found wasn't when you were confronted with a single knight, it was when in the later levels you had 5+ to deal with at once where one of them has a bloody Incineration cannon which insta kills you.
Also the fact that they took so many bullets that running at them firing continuously would deplete your ammo in a matter of seconds.

Overall, I never found any Halo particularly difficult.

I'm quite tempted to agree with you.
A remake and 3 ports isn't exactly a giant leap (although I would certainly love to have it :3). I'm thinking they might release a spin off style title similar to ODST but in the Halo 5 engine. Give a taste of what Halo 5 will be like and include Halo 5 beta access.
Yeah ODST might the hardest for me. Not having the same skills as a Spartan made it more difficult imo.I had some trouble in ODST but for me 4 was a real cunt to finish on legendary.

I think that "giant leap" was simply hinting at Halo 2. There are quite a few giant leaps in that game, from Chief leaping through space with a Covenant bomb, over the slipspace leaps and the leap in the storyline that was later filled in by ODST, to the final leap between the end of Halo 2 and the beginning of Halo 3. The latter in particular is what they might have been teasing, perhaps we'll finally get to play through that section.
Sorry if going off topic but is Spartan Assault any good?
I never played it on phone or tablet so am kind of looking forward to playing it on Xbox One (for free, soon).
I think it looks kinda cool in the videos ive seen of it - does it have online co-op?
That would then be like an what if story line since some of the scrapoed stuff made it into halo 3 and some of the stuff was completely differentI hope the missing 3-4 missions of Halo 2 that got deleted will be included.

I've never been able to find out what those were. How was it supposed to end?
List wars again! Legendary difficulty for me:
Halo 2 >>> Halo 4 > Halo 3 > Halo CE
I wouldn't be surprised if their giant leap is an long Halo 5 Beta. In other words, a Halo MP mode (that isn't Halo 2's) that players can play continuously towards the ramp-up to Halo 5's launch. It would be a surprising move for such a big franchise coming from Microsoft but in today's world where early access is becoming really common really quickly, it would make total sense. They can collect feedback for the final product and generate a ton of buzz. (And probably be lauded for such a bold decision by questionable games press.)
Platinum Elites on Legendary in Halo CE, chucking Plasma grenades like an NFL Quarterback, so good.
Keyes on Legendary is one of my favorite levels just because of all the platinum elites, and also how batshit insane you can make that level by hanging around and letting wave after wave spawn.
I just played 1 and 2 over again in the last few weeks, is it just me or did Elites get far easier to kill in 2? Also Flood became far easier to kill with plasma weapons but harder with human?
And Brutes are fucking bastards.
If you like Halo you should definitely give a concerted effort to beating Halo CE on Legendary. Plasma Rifle and Plasma Pistol are excellent and should be used all the time, Shotgun, Pistol and the two power weapons, Sniper and Rockets are all really good as well. Assault Rifle and Needler generally aren't worth using, but there are a few scenarios where they are helpful.
Is there any word on this game's approach to gameplay at all? Like which installment will it be like?
Halo 4 is by far the easiest!
Hell I won a free trip to E3 last year because I beat the game on Legendary in like 6 or 7 hours on launch day.
I got home at like 12:30 after the midnight launch and did the first run on legendary and didn't stop till it was done.

I think it took me 5 hours on legendary 2 player co-op.
Yeah, those damn guns disappearing all the time did not help. All I remember is that I kept running out of ammo in Halo 4.
Yay for despawning /s

In most circumstances, the AR has an unfortunately difficult time breaking out of a "like the shotgun but not as good" role. Its shield-breaking power isn't great, it's not great against Flood combat forms, and it's simply not very accurate.Assault Rifle and Needler generally aren't worth using, but there are a few scenarios where they are helpful.
Blitzing an elite with the AR on legendary is sometimes okay if it's a lone blue elite. Red elites are much more iffy due to their shield strength, and you'd be extremely bold to try to AR blitz a legendary goldie. The AR does make short work of most groups of Grunts even on Legendary, and against single Elites it works just fine, if you're careful.
I use the PP much more than the PR, but the PR is easier to control and has a much higher muzzle velocity. It can be useful.I would argue the Plasma Rifle is actually the worst weapon, because the Plasma Pistol does the same damage, can fire as fast, is more common, and has the overcharge ability.
Yeah, running out of ammo isn't really the issue. What bothers me with Halo 4 is that the combination of low ammo capacity and the back-and-forth with crates can break up the combat flow. And it's not like the big fight at the end of Two Betrayals where each ammo/weapon load feels like carrying out a major stage in an awesome campaign against a huge army; in Halo 4 it's more just frequently rushing around for a refill. It has an aesthetically displeasing impact.Am i the only person who never ran out of ammo on solo Legendary?
My biggest issue was that i'm too reluctant to use my power weapons and keep them until the end of the map...

Really boring weapon set really.
One semi-automatic weapon that looks like a pistol but acts like a rifle. Boring too, as most single-shot weapons are.
A few automatics that are too similar and not that useful most of the time.
The standard trinity of Sniper-Shotgun-Rocket Launcher, each one kind of boring incarnation too.
The Plasma Pistol is probably the only truly interesting weapon in Halo CE sandbox. Ignoring that the Halo CE AR is cool.
Later Halos at least got more interesting weapons added to their sandboxes, or more interesting variations of the standard weapons.
Hope Halo 5 will have more imaginative sandbox, akin to older shooters like Unreal Tournament, there are many weapons in Halo that could be modified slightly to be truly interesting.
Reach had, somewhat ironically in my mind for i don't like the game, the most varied sandbox with interesting weapons (the Plasma Launcher, Grenade Launcher and Focus Rifle)
Halo CE AR is cool, Pistol is boring.
Ok
