Basic Overview:

Developer: Blizzard Entertainment Team 1 (The RTS Team)
Publisher: Activision Blizzard
Genre: MOBA/ARTS
Release Date: June 2nd, 2015
Platforms: PC/Mac
Price: Free 2 Play
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaxjC8V5j6M
Screenshots: http://us.battle.net/heroes/en/media/

Update Schedule:
-Heroes: One every 3-4 weeks. (New statement as of launch.)
-Battlegrounds: One every ~3 months.
-Balance Patches: One every ~2 months, though some might take longer. (New statement as of launch.)

Gameplay Modes:
-Play Against AI: Play against five enemy AIs, with a choice of either playing with four AI teammates or four actual players. You play on a randomly picked, unknown Battleground.
-Quick Match: Five players vs five players. You select your hero before searching for a match. Heroes are unique per team. You play on a randomly picked, unknown Battleground.
-Hero League: Five players vs five players. You find out what map you're playing on, and then select heroes in a draft format. All ten heroes must be unique. Unlocked at Level 30.
-Team League: Pre-made five vs five teams only. Otherwise works like Hero League. Unlocked at Level 40.

Gameplay Basics:
-While similar to a MOBA, containing multiple lanes, infinitely spawning units, and an objective to destroy the enemy base, there are several key differences.
-One of the biggest differences is that each map has an objective that does something like spawning a super unit for your side or making the enemy units/towers not attack for a limited period of time.
-Another is that the four archetypes (Warrior, Assassin, Support, Specialist) are balanced like an MMO (Tank, Damage Dealer, Healer, Utility) instead of regular MOBA archetypes. There is no concepts such as a carry, so don't try to fight three people at once and expect to win.
-Your entire team gains levels at the same rate, so who gets kills or a destroys a building doesn't matter. Denying also doesn't exist.
-There is no gold or items. Instead, every three levels you can select from between two to five talents that can majorly modify your abilities, character, or give you new abilities.
-The matches are built to last approximately 15-25 minutes, which is a fair bit shorter than most MOBAs.
-If you're confused about anything, play through the tutorials, which go into everything in depth and give you gold for completing them. This is especially true for players new to the genre who read what I wrote and it made no sense.
-Blizzard rates the following heroes as easy to use for newcomers: Azmodan, Kael'thas, Li Li, Malfurion, Raynor, Sylvanas, Uther, Valla
-Specific hero guides can be found here: http://www.heroesfire.com/
-If you want to track your stats in more detail, go here: https://www.hotslogs.com/Default

Business Model:
-There is a selection of seven free heroes per week. When you first start, there are only five, though you will quickly unlock the other two slots.
-You earn gold by leveling up and completing daily quests, which can be used to buy heroes and make them continually available. Gold also must be used to unlock master skins, which are a cosmetic effect.
-You can also buy heroes, skins, and stimpacks (account - not game - experience/gold rate increasers) from the shop with real money.
-There is no system akin to LoL runes. You also can't buy anything that helps you during the actual game.
-There are weekly sales where one hero and two skin (or one skin and one mount) are sold for half off the cash price, but the gold price remains the same.

Blizzard has really nice interactive webpages that explain each of the maps, so just click the image to go to the Battlegrounds page on their website.

Officially Teased/Shown Upcoming Content:

-Heaven and Hell map themed after the Diablo universe.

Datamined Upcoming Content:

To be clear, be somewhat skeptical of anything in here, since plans are far more likely to change before they've officially been announced than afterwards.

Heroes:
-Click here. Each hero page cites where the developer statement and/or datamine came from.

Battlegrounds:
-Ashenvale/Horn of Cenarius: This map was put on hold according to the developers.
-Transylvania: It seems likely they're doing holiday maps.
-Winter Docks: This is a wintery version of Blackheart's Bay, also presumably a holiday/seasonal map.

Modes:
-There's a mode called Arena that has recently shown up in the gameplay files. No further details are known.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
1,155... how is that even fucking possible?

Just squeezing into the top 10, yay. Even if my experiences in game have gone down hill this thread makes up for it!

Half of them were empty promises to play Murky....that's how
It was all part of the grand plan... despite all effort, my initial master plan that I had planned for this thread (in December) failed miserably :(
You were ahead of me for a good bit at launch til you burned out.
This sounds like bullshit but I believe you

edit: wait, I never burned out. That never happened.

Well if it's any consolation we go straight to Community now, so anyone who ever popped in on Gaming will never see that thread bumped again, so game might as well be ded

I mean like if someone subbed to OT1 when it was in gaming, then never saw it bumped again and just sorta forgot about the game, meanwhile OT2 starts right off in Community

C'mon guys, why am I blowing your minds here

Why can't we all just get along

Oh dang that might be my first wall of shame! Go me?

And obviously Murky is #1. The big debate is deciding who's #2.

Getting frustrated with matching still.

Solo queuing in hero league seems fine to me - my matches tend to be close, everyone is always clustered around the same rank, etc.

Duoing with friends has turned into a nightmare that never ends. Out of my last 9 games with my most frequent partner, I've won 1. Someone who I used to have a 60% win rate with has now dropped to 30% in the last 30 days. We are both doing fine single queuing (indeed he's increased his ranked quite a bit over the last month), but duo queue seems to guarantee us garbage matches.

It's not even like we are ultra high mmr players. It just seems that to balance any duo team, it matches you with bad players if the enemy team doesn't also have a duo. Which happens more often that not. It's incredibly frustrating because I honestly can't play with my friends now because the matchmaking is so bad when I do.

They need to implement leagues and duo queue restrictions

Leagues absolutely - I know it sound stupid and I hate myself for it, but the fact that losing just two matches drops you a rank makes me extremely unwilling to play ranked play when things like this happen. A ranked number is simply not a good system, and it worries me that so far the only leagues they have talked about are for rank 1 players. It needs to be universal, to push more people into ranked play.

What do you mean by duo queue restrictions? It's not like me and my friends are widely different in MMR, so any restriction on MMRgap wouldn't rally impact us. It just seems that whenever we duo queue we end up with awful matches, all the time. It's very depressing because solo queue just isn't as fun and I may as well be playing Grim Dawn instead.

What are the best matches from the heroes rising thing?

Cloud 9 versus Tempostorm on Dragonshire is worth watching because it is the most one sided match I have ever seen between two top Heroes teams. At one point C9 was almost two talent tiers ahead, and Arthelonwas dancing on the dragon knight in mid lane.

So far I've only watched one match in the finals, but all five are reckoned to be good games. BRFC came back froma 2-0 deficit to win, and the middle match was fantastic fun with lots of swings and come backs. Glorious Falstad play in both matches that really showed his power in teams (and why he suffers a bit in normal hero league - you can't tell your teammates to back off whilst you grab some xp on an objective).

I find it frustrating that when we lose we risk losing an enormous amount of points because we're favored, but when we win since we're favored we get barely any points.

It feels like I'm losing even when I'm winning.
