I stole a Gameboy Color 17 years ago, and I still feel guilty about it

I had a GBA stolen from my locker in 6th grade.
Thankfully our school just looked on the hall cameras DVR and saw the whole thing and made the kid give it back.

He wiped my Pokémon Silver progress though and started a new game. Motherfucker deleted my level 97 Scizor I'd been training.

I never stole a game boy but I did leave a friend's game boy on the radiator right before the school play. It disappeared after the play finished, so I figure some other kid must have taken it.

For the longest time we thought it had melted though! :p We even went on detective hunts around the school to look for it.

I once opened a Nintendo Power in a Walmart, and found a lenticular promotional card on one of the ad pages (Polymer from Tatsunoko vs Capcom). I took it right out and put it in my pocket. For some reason I didn't register it as a bad thing, since every magazine I'd bought off a shelf already had extras like that removed. Sad thing was I was more than old enough to know better. It really hit home when one of my friends later said something like "Really, you're gonna be that guy?". Still feel bad.

For some reason it took 4 pages of reading this thread to remember that I was given an OG DS by my mum who had been cleaning room at some holiday cottages. Clearly someone had forgotten it and it'd been left there for weeks without then calling to claim it so I got it >:)

That episode made me shook and I never stole again.
Just take it! Take it! Take it! Take it!

I used to steal candy and gum while in the check out line with my mom in the 90s
Then I'd take said candy and give it to my friends at the local park.

My dad used to find lots of game boys x games x phones x etc coming home every night
I got perfect dark gbc from him
Which I then used to unlock all the shit in the N64 version
Thanks pop :D

My mom once asked a Gamestop employee to take out YuGiOh for GBA so she could see and then distracted him by asking him to tell her about Pokemon Sapphire. She then proceeded to pocket YuGiOh and buy Pokemon so both me and my brother could get what we wanted. I tried to tell her that she didn't buy it but she shushed me... That was the day I almost got my mom caught for stealing.

As someone who got his gameboy stolen at a camp, I would've probably punched you in the face today if you told me you did it.

But otherwise, no hard feelings.

Punch someone in the face for a GAMEBOY? And for something he did when he was a kid?

By saying so, you seem more punchable than OP. ;)

My dad would steal stuff for me all the time when I was a kid. My uncle would, too. :/ They didn't think I knew but I did.

To the buttwipe that stole my teal 3DS (and the rest of my backpack) when we valet parked our car at New York, New York Casino in Vegas:

I hope you also feel guilty

Pretty sure my nephew stole my Gameboy Color with Pokémon Silver in it. Granted, it was sitting on my dresser untouched for like 2 years and I had little interest in picking it up to play... but still... I feel like I got a glimpse of it in one of the moving boxes he stashed it in the day he and my sister moved out.

I was pretty angry at first, but then I thought: "Ah, what the hell? Maybe he'll get the same amount of joy out of it like I did".

And that was that.

EDIT: On another note, I actually just remembered I actually stole my friend's holographic Haunter Pokémon card after church a very long time ago. We always brought our binders of cards everywhere we went and I remember he had a holographic collection that I had only dreamed about at the time. One of the cards I highly desired was a Haunter.

We were just hanging around outside of church, jumping around the stairs with our binders in our arms (for some reason) and I notice a shiny object flying out of his binder. I watch it hit the ground, and there it was: the holo Haunter card. I waited for him to hurry and pick it up but he was distracted by another friend of ours. So I go to pick it up to give it to him, but was overwhelmed by the sudden desire to just put it in my pocket... and that's what I did. I never gave it back, I just kept it hidden behind one of my other cards in my binder, and it stayed there for quite some time. I think I may have traded it eventually though. I felt way guilty for the longest time and wanted to give it back, but I thought he would be way mad at me so I never did. We're still friends so maybe I can tell him now and we can just laugh it off lol

Same thing nearly happened to me when I was a kid OP. It was 1999 and Pokemon was the shit. I was shopping with my mom at the local Kmart. We went to go pay, and then it appeared! A lime green Gameboy Color with Pokemon Red sitting on top of a Planters peanut jar. That thing shined like no other object I've ever seen before. It was blasting the menu theme out of its little speaker and I just stood there in shock. I nervously grabbed it and froze. I had no clue what to do. I wanted it sooooo bad, but my conscience was telling me to give it to the cashier. My Mom was done paying and was grabbing the cart to leave. Thats when I did the unthinkable: I gave it to the middle age lady employee and said in a sad squeeky voice " Uhh I found this. I think someone lost it :( " . She took one glance at it, having no clue what it was and not giving a single shit, then shoved it in a drawer. I stood there with the worst feeling in my stomach, knowing I just gave up a GBC, with my dream game, I could never afford.

I know it sounds messed up, but I wish I would of taken it, because Christmas time of that year I got a GBC from a relative and a less then a year latter it was stolen from me :( .

If he had just been some kid on the bus I would've completely flown off the fucking handle, and even then I still surprised it didn't come to blows. I'm sure I did tell him off, but it was too long ago for me to remember anything other than the theft and the audacity to try to pass off my GBA as his. I remember the team I had though and I'm starting to get heated over it because I worked hard on that shit

Rage Edit: Oh yeah, the day I thought I lost it, he pretended to help me look for it until he got off the bus

Oooh dat rage edit. That's the worst.

My friend and I stole about 6 of them In the 6th grade.
What's your point OP?
Pokemons US debut was a massacre, stolen gameboys, card hustles.
You had to protect ya neck.
Haha dear God! 6?!
my family took a trip to disneyland a long time ago. We walked through one of the hotels and I had to take a dump. Went into the stall and there was some black case on top of the toilet paper roll metal case thing. Curiosity eventually got the better of me, I opened it. It was a DS. This was when they were brand new. I pocketed it so fast and didnt even finish going to the bathroom. I booked it out of there. I ruined some other kids vacation. Still feel bad
Holy shit, we are one and the same

You monster.

I stole a toy airplane when I was a kid (under 10 IIRC), and when we left the store I threw it out because I felt so guilty.
You're still a monster.

You can't change what happened, but you could do something for others. Like buy a couple of 2DSs and donate them to a children's hospital, to bring some balance to your Karma.

Someone stole my gameboy color when I was a kid. I had over 600 hours in pokemon yellow. It was probably another kid.

When I was 12 or so my brother's old friend and his family came to visit from out of town while I was spending the night at a friend's house. Apparently the younger brother of my brothers friend, we'll call him Tad he was like 8 years old, found the drawer where I kept my gameboy advanced and games hidden. He proceeded to take pokemon sapphire, sonic battle, and like 5 other gameboy advanced games. When I got home the next day I went to go find my games and I couldn't find them but I figured maybe they were misplaced.

The day after we went to go visit my brother's friend and his family, and thats when I saw Tad playing pokemon. I didn't think much of it beyond "hey I have that game, I should chat him up about it." I look at the game and I see that his pokemon are named the same as mine were and so is his main character. I'm super suspicious and I start questioning him about it and he's nervous but lies through his teeth and I can't disprove it. Then his sister comes up to me and pulls me aside and tells me it's total bullshit, he told his family he rented these games at blockbuster but she knew he obviously didn't.

So as the day goes and both families are going out and doing stuff Tad's sister and I are busy trying to think of how expose Tad for being the little thief he is. Ultimately we decide to just tell their mom and she gets pissed at Tad. I get my games back and Tad gets grounded and I'm pretty sure much worse was coming for him after we left, I just remember him crying as the last thing I saw of Tad.

To this day there is still a picture on my fridge of Tad hugging up with my mom and everytime I still feel a little angry at that kid for taking my shit. Fuck you Tad

When I was a wee lad in daycare there was this big toy chest they had with random toys ini t, from action figures to hotwheels, etc. One day this girl dared me to steal a toy and I picked out hotwheel and stuck it in my pocket and took it home. Don't remember whatever happened to it though.

Then later on like in my early teens some friends and I would go to wal mart and pop open the pc gamer/computer gaming world mags and get the demo disc from them...

That's about the extent I ever did that, cept for the time I stole a nudie magazine cause I wanted to see what was behind the black plastic..
gWmk9t1.gif

Got caught and my stepdad made me return it...which was super freaking awkward.

Never stole anything since then.

I used to work for a retail store and someone left a Nintendo DS there. No clue who. I did the nice thing and put it in our safe, and kept it there for a month. No one ever came looking for one so I eventually said fuck it....that's mine now. Still feel bad since some kid probably lost it but shit I had a DS....that I then sold on ebay.

Oh another time was at my 10th or 11th birthday party. I had all my friends over hanging out playing budokai or tenkaichi eating pizza and all the good stuff. Well around halfway through the night we opened presents and I had gotten some good games and other stuff and then the final present I opened was the Yu-Gi-Oh Insect Queen Tin. It was amazing and I couldn't wait to open it and use it against my friends in duels at school. After presents a kid had to leave since this parents wouldnt let himspend the night, we will call him Ryan.

The next day I'm looking through my presents and organizing stuff when my mom gets a call from Ryan's dad saying "hey we found this tin in the car and we know it didn't belong to him, do you know who it belonged to at the party?" Well his dad was embarrassed to find out it belonged to me and told us Ryan would bring it to school on Monday and that he was in serious trouble. I was just happy to get my present back but later that day I realize I couldn't find my copy of Sonic Battle, I still don't understand what about that game drove people to stealing it. I looked all over my house but the game was gone and I had my suspicions that Ryan had stolen that game as well.

Monday rolls around and I meet with Ryan out on the blacktop, he hands me back my Insect Queen tin and apologizes and I then start to ask him about Sonic Battle. Ryan claims he didn't take it and just leaves for a bit leaving me sad about my game, but he returns and points me over to these guys playing Wallball. On the ground next to the wall is a copy of Sonic Battle, and when no one looks I grabbed it.

To this day I dont know whether or not that copy of Sonic Battle was mine or something I stole from someone else but I think the circumstances were too perfect for it not to have been mine.

I stole a shit load of those fancy yo-yo's from kmart and a power ranger zord too. Would go to the aisle and pretend im playing with the toys like regular kids do while their parents play and then id stuff it down my pants amd leave.

I did this a couple times as a kid during summer break. I did not feel bad. Played the shit out of those yo-yo's and gave the zord to my friend.

Ten years ago I forgot my ds in its carrying case along with a dozen or so games in it at the immigration line at SeaTac airport. I was filling out the customs form and had placed the case on the table. Forgot to pick it up. Wasn't allowed to go back in there after I realized what had happened. Lost&found never had it turned in. Sucked. Sucked a lot. I had made good progress in a few of those games like ff6.

My gameboy pocket was stolen with my copy of Pokemon Gold in the back when I was a kid :( It still had my name on it and everything.

I had a copy of Dragon Warrior Monsters stolen from me at summer camp...That or maybe I lost it. Who knows. If they did steal it from me, then it seems like an odd one to take.

I've technically taken one game without permission once, but it was sort of an odd situation. At the same summer camp, a who had their own game boy asked if they could play my copy of Super Mario Land, and in the mean time, they gave me their copy of Super Mario Land 2. The kid eventually left, and for some reason I never saw him again, so he took my copy of SML, but I had his copy of SML2, which I think I still have to this day, though I'm not sure on that one either, since I actually already had a copy of SML2 and just agreed to borrow his version so that I would have something to play while he had my SML1, so in the end I had two copies.

Go back to the same place and turn in a gameboy with the same games. They should have a lost and found section. Throw it back in the natural process.

Tangentially related. I have a cousin whose a couple years older than I am and lives on the other side of the country. When I was four or five, we went on a roadtrip with him. He stole a ball from a McDonalds ball pit and handed it to me when we were in the car. I got upset that he took it. He proceeded to throw it at my head for the rest of the trip.

I think back to the anger I felt back then, upset with him for stealing the ball, a lot more than I should.

Kid in a hospital stole my pokemon firered with all my event pokemon and Mass breeding of starters and caught legendaries. It was just gone after he complained that he never plays something like this then he was gone and my game too. Nobody believed me except my parents. I hope that guy rots in hell forever. fortunately I got a DS immediately (release week) but it still annoys me with all the wasted time. Was also the point where i stopped caring catching pokemon

If you steal out of greed you're an asshole. Mostly addressing those idiots that stole all the time and don't feel bad about it.

When I was 14 I was in a Gamestop opening display boxes. I used to like looking at manuals if they were there, it was a big thing back then.

One day I opened the Viewtiful Joe DS game box and the game was inside! So I pocketed it and gave it to my friend since that had a DS.

At the time I felt I gave GS a valuable lesson and gave my friend who didn't have many games a free one. At this time I really don't fell that bad about it.

I stole a 3rd party psx memory card from Walmart. Popped it right out of the cardboard packaging when I was like 12.

Joke was on me though, since those 3rd party cards were pieces of crap and it ate my ff7/8/9 saves.
Lmaoooo! I did the same thing at 13. I was tired of unlocking those Tekken characters. 😩

I'm.. pretty sure it doesn't work that way.

Stores have to balance the registers at the end of each day. It's never good for the register to be under, but it's also not good for the register to be over. If you try to pay for something that was written off as theft/damaged, then you're giving the store a surplus of money for an item they've already accounted for. Stores usually do inventory every 6 months or so, at least the ones I've worked at have (except for IKEA, their stock apparently moves too fast to have inventory done), and after a store does inventory anything from before it's submitted is basically set. So if you stole something last year and tried to send money for it this year, they've already accounted for the loss of the item you stole. There's no "place" for that money you're sending to go. It's not like stores have a special safe where they put money for stolen items to recoup the costs or send back to corporate, at least not any of the stores I've worked at (if anyone knows different though please do tell).

Errr, yes, obviously they aren't going to go back and re-balance their ledger from June 13th, 1991 or whatever. The implication of your position is that theft is not bad because shrink is accounted for eventually. People should pay for the things they stole because it's the right thing to do; what the store does with the money is of no concern. If an employee pockets it, more power to them. If they donate it to charity, more power to them. If they itemize it as money found in the back of a drawer, more power to them.

You should be banned, according to the TOS:

Linking to pirate download sites, directions on how to get pirated software to work, reviews or impressions of pirated software, and livestreams of pirated software play are all strictly prohibited.

You basically just told us how to steal a Gameboy, which is way worse than piracy.

I accidentally stole a teddy bear once, picked it up and played with it and then just walked out of the store with it when we were leaving.
