Tbh I think that's the only way you'd get it to work, just assume that the majority of games need to be internally published to keep cost down because any particular line up is never going to please everyone anyway.

If Sony does this, they're gonna have a hard time putting games like Resident Evil 2 on there cause Capcom would want people to play the remake instead. They'll only include games that haven't been remastered, possibly with the exception of Crash.

I think most are putting down games that would make sense from a mass market perspective rather than personal top 20 lists. I had Einhander on my list, but I kept the more niche games to a minimum (the only other two would be IQ and Bust a Groove). My actual Top 20 favorite games from that console would look pretty different. I'd choose Rage Racer over RRT4. But I put RRT4 on this list because I think it's probably the second most well known entry and it's by far the most polished and content complete.

In general a PSone list would already have a good chunk of slots locked in. Like there needs to be at least one Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, Tekken, Twisted Metal, Ridge Racer, Wipeout, Gran Turismo, Tony Hawk, Spyro, Crash as well as MGS and SotN. So, right away you've got at least thirteen games are locked in. With a product like this I don't think you have a lot of leeway in terms of more personalized entries. You can look at the SNES Classic as a good example of that. No Actraiser, Chrono Trigger, Turtles in Time, Ogre Battle etc.

I've got an idea. How about a PSX mini, shaped liked the original PlayStation, which has 15-20 games from launch to 1997. And then there's a PSone mini, which has 15-20 games from 1998 to EOL.
