Indie Games 2014 [November] Now Voting - Post 241!

I was able to get the PC version fully downloaded on the 5th try or so. Keep hope alive.

Just got the "Thanks for playing the demo" screen. Not very compelling. Also, red, green, blue as primary colors? Uhh... why do that when you could use, you know, the actual primary colors? Would be much more intuitive. It's a thread-the-needle game at its core, so if you're a fan of moving pixels in tight spaces, give it a shot?

Loosely inspired by the trek Roland takes in Stephen King's Dark Tower: The Gunslinger, 'Eastward...' is kind of a long range walking survival simulator. The player must traverse across a 2D procedurally generated landscape - ranging from empty deserts, great forests, across oceans and up mountains. Ideally, the game would also probably take many days and multiple visits to eventually complete.

Are there any indie RTSes that are akin to the original Command&Conquer?
Relatively simple gameplay, top-down view (not 3/4ths view like Tiberian Sun had), similar style, etc.?

Oh my goodness fellas. Axiom Verge is amazing. I've been over-using the word amazing when describing Axiom Verge, but it's amazing.

I'll post up a full preview later but for now, here is my minimalist playthrough:

[Full disclosure: I'm helping the developer, Tom Happ, with the business and marketing stuff.]

Thanks for checking it out! BTW, for those who hadn't heard, we're trying a new marketing approach. We're just releasing one very small section of the game (maybe 5%) each month for the next few months leading up to launch. I'm hoping that people will start looking forward to these new reveals, which will show new weapons/items, development of the storyline, etc. Also hoping that each new reveal might be a new opportunity for people who hadn't heard of the game before to find out about it. I'm curious to see how people actually respond to this approach. The game is fully playable from beginning to end (Tom Happ just finished programming the final boss, so he's just adding the cut scenes) so between now and launch is just a bunch of polish.

There is another game that is launching on Stem this month called Deadstone. We just got it in for review and I quite enjoyed the voice over so far. Haven't gotten too far with it yet so I can't recommend it but maybe it should be added in the OP.
I got a "The Martian"(book) vibe from it.

Maybe RimWorld, I think it suits your description but I'm not sure if it's simple.

Anyone tried Joylancer? Thinking of getting it off Gmaersgat with my 20%discount coupon.

I remember liking it very much, but I cant find my previous impressions.

Not sure if this is appropriate to talk about since it's coming 2015 but pocketwatch games has a game in the works called Lead to Fire which looks and sounds great.

Cool, I'd like to read them, so I'll try to find it using GAF Search. Only reason I wanna get it is because Gamersgate has it and I have a 20% discount coupon I want to use before it expires XP

Found some impressions that mention that the Early Access has good concept but some bad execution of these concepts.
Now these are from over a month ago, so hopefully the latest build improved drastically.

Cosmonaut - PC, Mac, Linux

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=334842893

Cosmonaut is a first-person/space simulator. The game places the player in the role of a lost Cosmonaut who, after an event he cannot remember, wakes up orbiting the earth. He soon realizes that its life support equipment is bearing eminent failure, with low levels of oxygen, energy and fuel. Taking the hardly intelligible messages of a damaged radio system, the player must combine skill and quick thinking to survive.

In a dark weightless environment, he only hears its own shortness of breathing, low frequency and emergency messages from a damaged radio. Surrounded by space debris and depending on its spacesuit spotlights, the player needs to refuel from dead comrades to put off inevitable death and find a way out. The game combines visuals, sound, non-linear story-telling and diverse interactions to become a fully immersive experience and making the player forget that it's just a game!

Cycho - Free (Browser)

Cycho is Alfred Hitchcock meets Tron light cycles. Two players compete for survival as they maneuver on a giant moving eye. The two players can fight for control of the eye, or a third person can play as the eye and menace the two cycles. It might just be the weirdest game of "snakes" you'll ever play. Eye think you should try it.

Impulse - Free (Browser)

Impulse is a top-down shooter with a unique twist. You play as a lone circle armed with not bullets, but a powerful shockwave that throws your enemies back. Defeat enemies by pushing them into the Void, where they instantly dissolve. But beware the Harpoon, which can reach through the Void to drag you to your death. And the Orbiter, which dances constantly out of range, waiting for the right moment to lunge. Fight your way down an abstract geometric lair, where something massive waits in the depths.

Lost Cave - ????
moNFHY3SSywXDjQvPb1p_title_450.jpg

http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2015.php?id=7974

Lost Cave is a 2D side-scrolling platformer where the player explores the depths of a strange cave. The player possesses the ability to shift the perspective of the camera that views the world, allowing them to change the size and position of objects in the foreground and background of the environment. This manipulation of the world allows the player to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles to progress deeper into the cave. It was originally created as part of the 2014 Global Game Jam, based on the theme phrase "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." This led us to create a game where your view of the world effects how the world exists.

About the ToME expansion:
  • Start with a new class, the Doombringer! These avatars of demonic destruction charge into battle with massive two-handed weapons, cutting swaths of firey devastation through hordes of opponents. Armed with flame magic and demonic strength, they delight in fighting against overwhelming odds, softening up the crowd with waves of fire, then feeding on the flames and suffering of their surroundings to stay alive while quickly reducing any group to a pile of ash and gore.
  • Unlock a new class, the Demonologist, with an all-new item enhancement mechanic! Bearing a shield and the magic of the Spellblaze itself, these melee-fighting casters can grow demonic seeds from their fallen enemies. Imbue these seeds onto your items to gain a wide array of new talents and passive benefits, and summon the demons within them to fight on your side! Ever looked at a gigantic demon-cursed minotaur and wished it was on your side for once? Well, now you CAN summon one to pound your foes into paste while you cast devastating spells from afar, or call forth a squad of Fire Imps to pelt your enemies to death while they exhaust themselves on your impenetrable defenses! Demons have persistent health, making them a little more precious than disposable necromancer skeletons or summoner beasts, but can be revived from death nonetheless.
  • Two new zones, with all-new art, foes, and bosses! You've seen the plains of the Fearscape before, now see the lairs and headquarters of the demons themselves!
  • Over 10,000 words of written lore to find! The demons were once an enlightened, peaceful race, hailing from a distant planet known as Mal'Rok; learn what drove them to plot Eyal's eternal torture!
  • Discover monuments to each of the demonic species and noteworthy individuals, showing the place of honor each has among them! Get a glimpse into the culture and daily lives of these sadistic invaders and their brainwashed thralls!
  • Unlock a new race, Doomelves: Shalore who've taken to the demonic alterations especially well, corrupting their typical abilities into a darker form. Blink away to safety, transform into a shadowy dúathedlen to hide in the shadows or prey on your foes with blasts of darkness, use your new resilience to soak up status effects and critical hits, and assault your enemies' minds to leave them unsteady in combat!
  • Between the aforementioned classes and Doomelves, a whopping 75 new talents!
  • Unlock two new cosmetic options! You know you've always wanted demon-horns.
  • Two new events, appearing anywhere in Eyal!
  • 20 new artifacts, with unique and interesting effects. Collect the Obsidian Treasures to amass more and more power! Slip your hands into the Will of Ul'Gruth and watch your sweeping blows smash down walls! Wear a giant hideous hell-mouth as a fashionable belt!
  • 7 new achievements! Conquer the worst Urh'Rok's forces can throw at you, and hang their metaphorical skulls from your profile page!

Saw someone talking about this game on the Steam thread, I don't think it was featured before:

Pitiri 1977 - $4.99 (PC)
ss_65f97325a38ed35b20dc3e8aa518cca7f652be1d.jpg

Steam

Pitiri 1977 is an adventure-platformer with much exploration in both world and story, and is paying tribute to its classic pioneers – not only by its gameplay, but also by its background story. A narrative, that is set in 1977 (the glorious year of Star Wars IV, the Atari 2600, the Voyager One spacecraft & Led Zeppelin's “Presence”), in an imposing world, created by using hand-painted graphics, characters, solid physics and a 1970s soundtrack, gradually opened up by the player’s acquired abilities.

Sounds interesting

Man, Binding of Isaac is so good. I love how all your stacking items are physically represented.

Yeah, I played it a ton on PC. Should get around to playing the Ultimate version on Vita though, but currently still stuck in SMTIV.

Been playing on the Vita for awhile. I'm always a little upset with how slow the initial part of the game is. I would almost rather have an option that drops me with some random heart/item inventory then have to slog through the first two levels.

Plus the first levels aren't really difficult, even in hard mode. Just feels like a waste of time.

Other than that, when you get to utero and have some wicked combinations, it's good times.

I've never really been able to get really into Isaac primarily due to the lack of directional shooting gives the gameplay a slightly primitive feel. Although I really appreciate the unsettling visuals and it seems to do right with the entire action roguelike concept, it's just not for me. Last weekend me and a friend had a go on the co-op mode in that game and it is not a fantastically easy experience but a fairly enjoyable one.

but currently still stuck in SMTIV.

Good man! I am journeying through that game myself also.
