Is such a thing even possible?
Thorani's ok. No Parasouls, Fillias, or Valentines though. u.u

Eh, the character designs of several unrevealed characters are already out. It's on their forums.
But I seriously hope there aren't people that choose to pick or to not pick up a game for liking the design of one character.
Don't deny it.
I presume the final push will be like 400-500k if we assume that people are holding back because of indiegogo' immediate charge. But that's just a dumb unqualified guess.

I bought Xrd for Elphelt and got into League of Legends for Sona. OTL

This sort of thing would be really two-faced for what Indivisible otherwise is and represents, and would invite a ton of criticism. Wouldn't be worth it for a lot of reasons. It might have been a good idea to monetise that, in hindsight. Something between DOAX3's paid voting and Mighty No. 9's design polls for female characters could have worked, producing several designs for characters like Thorani, Phoebe, Yan and Razmi that hit common archetypes and fetishes; which could be voted between with higher pledges boosting votes' strength.

Because by doing so they endanger the IP, their original vision for the game and artistic integrity by having a major publisher (who are not creators) take part in the creative process of the game. I don't know if you're required to be an artist to understand that better but there are developers out there who wish to have that creative freedom.Lab Zero says they need money from us on top of a publisher to make this work. Why not find a publisher who will just fund the whole thing?
Less like a bribe and more like Lab Zero just fulfilling their end of the contract by having the necessary funds to reach their budget. I may be completely wrong here but my theory is that this is not even about "interest gains" or none of that stuff but a very simple deal between two parties who have agreed to split the costs with the success of the final product seen more or less as an afterthought. Why is the publisher requiring a 1.5 million dollar bribe?
Probably very little, if any if the IGG page is to be believed. Whether or not you see that as a bad thing or not is totally up to you.How much control of the project does the publisher have?
A hell of a lot of goodwill and some profit? And even if the game gets funded but bombs tremendously, I have a feeling 505 will be fine after their (estimated) 2.5 mil investment. Games not breaking even is not entirely unheard of after all. What do they get out of the relationship?
Funny, because I think one of the first things they addressed was that they had additional funding, hence why they were asking for so little. And yes they did aquire a publisher later but iirc that was only for distribution purposes.unlike Yooka Laylee getting a publisher after a very successful campaign, but I don't think concern is unreasonable here.
You're lying to yourself if you pretend that isn't at least somewhat kind of an issue with some would-be backers. That's not the problem, it's indigogo the problem.
I see many people claiming that this would be easily funded on Kickstarter but I have my doubts. It would probably do better, for sure, but that much better? $1.5 million is a lot to raise on any platform, especially for a niche 2D RPG that's a new IP with no nostalgia or celebrity names backing it up.
I would've said Muv Luv but you said no nostalgia. Granted the genre it's in is a far bigger niche.
Even then that game was funded by only 7000 people that simply donated huge amounts.
It's not shady at all. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a deal like this.
People really like to find reasons to complain.
And yeah, they didn't put where exactly the money would go because that's not how things work. The money is spent on man-hours, not 'yeah lets use 100k on this character'
So I got to the part where I fought a mini boss and I have no idea what to do from that point
Is there an axe in the ceiling above you?
Yup that place!
This is my promo art for Lab Zero’s Indivisible title, which is currently going through crowdfunding.
Seriously, do publishers still say things like this?
Unfortunately yes. We pitched a project to a few publishers and one of them told us that the main character would have to be changed to white because having a black character wouldn't make it a Triple AAA title. I just shook my head and almost told them to get the fuck out of here with that bullshit.

Write angry emails to who? They couldn't out who these publishers are. Not only is it unprofessional but it would absolutely jeopardize their relationshipsseriously i need this game to better get funded or else I'm going to write angry e-mails
Just look at how amazing this looks:

agree that it'd destroy any remaining trace of the game's artistic integrity and dilute the design of the entire project
Hey, I didn't say appealing characters don't matter, just playing/backing something or not solely because of one character design.Thorani was basically 50% of my reason for backing.

Also folks don't forget Sleeping Dogs went thru a similar change. It used to have a female Asian lead, but was changed to a male for marketing purposes.
